A fuzzy logic control of a smart home with energy storage providing active and reactive power flexibility services

    Get PDF
There is a need for enhanced flexibility to allow the high penetration of intermittent renewable power into the power system. In this way, transmission system operators (TSO) need more flexible energy resources that help to control the power system frequency by using balancing services. Distribution system operators (DSO) also seek new flexible energy resources that can counteract stochasticity, control voltage level, and manage congestions in distribution networks. Smart homes located in distribution networks are potential resources. Hence, this paper considers a smart home with flexible appliances and devices, including a battery energy storage system (BESS) interfaced with an inverter, an air conditioner (AC), and an electric vehicle (EV). The smart home aims to provide the system operators with coordinated frequency and DSO-level services while respecting the thermal comfort and schedules of the household residence. The inverter-interfaced BESS not only provides active power support for TSO and DSO, but it also injects and consumes reactive power if the DSO needs local flexibility. Fuzzy logic control system is deployed to obtain this goal. In the simulation section, a smart home with flexible appliances is scheduled. Different operations and the economic outcomes are discussed for the smart home considering real-world data.© 2022 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V. Get PDF
After tooth extraction, dentists always place sterile tampons on the extracted socket to stop bleeding, to prevent infection and to reduce patients’ discomfort. Ozone is a biocompatible, bactericidal gas that can accelerate the healing of wounded soft tissue. In addition, it comes up with hemostasis effect to stop bleeding and may accelerate the clotting time and wound healing. Another advantage of ozone therapy is that it can be treated without making any trauma. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectivity of ozone water application in the socket to accelerate clotting time phase after posterior teeth extraction in 3 minutes, 6 minutes, and 10 minutes. This research was clinical experimental research with post-test only control group design. The research sampling was done through non-probability sampling. Then, sample was divided into two groups, each of which consisted of 15 patients treated with ozone tampons and 15 patients treated with sterile tampons after tooth extraction. Data were analyzed using chi-square test, and results showed a significant difference between the two groups. Ozone tampons show better result in accelerating clotting time after posterior teeth extraction than sterile tampons

Justicia insularis T. Anders (Acanthaceae) is a medicinal plant whose leaves and those of three other plants are mixed for the preparation of a concoction used to improve fertility and to reduce labour pains in women of the Western Region of Cameroon. Previous studies have demonstrated the inducing potential on ovarian folliculogenesis and steroidogenesis of the aqueous extract of the leaf mixture (ADHJ) of four medicinal plants (Aloe buettneri, Dicliptera verticillata, Hibiscus macranthus and Justicia insularis) among which the later represented the highest proportion. This study was aimed at evaluating the ovarian inducing potential of J. insularis in immature female rats. Various doses of the aqueous extract of J. insularis were daily and orally given, for 20 days, to immature female rats distributed into four experimental groups of twenty animals each. At the end of the experimental period some biochemical and physiological parameters of ovarian function were assayed. The administration of the aqueous extract of Justicia insularis significantly induced an early vaginal opening in all treated groups (P < 0.001) as well as an increase (at doses of 50 or 100 mg/kg) in the number of hemorrhagic points, Corpus luteum, implantation sites, ovarian weight, uterine and ovarian proteins. Ovarian cholesterol level (P < 0.05) significantly decreased in animals treated with the lowest dose (12.5 mg/kg). The evaluation of the toxicological effects of the extract on pregnancy showed that it significantly increased pre- and post-implantation losses, resorption index and decreased the rate of nidation as well as litter’s weight. These results suggest that the aqueous extract of Justicia insularis induces ovarian folliculogenesis thus justifying its high proportion in the leaf mixture of ADHJ.Keywords: Justicia insularis, vaginal opening, ovary, fertility, gestation, resorption index

The influence of the concentration of reactants on the results of titrations of salicylic acid in acetone with potassium and tetramethylammonium hydroxides in propan-2-ol were investigated. The titrations were performed by catalytic thermometric titrimetry using acetone as the end-point indicator and by potentiometric titrimetry. These and other results are discussed in terms of the equilibrium and kinetic aspects involved in the titrations of polyfunctional acids capable of forming intramolecular hydrogen bonds.116994794

Detection of ice core particles via deep neural networks

    Get PDF
Insoluble particles in ice cores record signatures of past climate parameters like vegetation, volcanic activity or aridity. Their analytical detection depends on intensive bench microscopy investigation and requires dedicated sample preparation steps. Both are laborious, require in-depth knowledge and often restrict sampling strategies. To help overcome these limitations, we present a framework based on Flow Imaging Microscopy coupled to a deep neural network for autonomous image classification of ice core particles. We train the network to classify 7 commonly found classes: mineral dust, felsic and basaltic volcanic ash (tephra), three species of pollen (Corylus avellana, Quercus robur, Quercus suber) and contamination particles that may be introduced onto the ice core surface during core handling operations. The trained network achieves 96.8 % classification accuracy at test time. We present the system’s potentials and limitations with respect to the detection of mineral dust, pollen grains and tephra shards, using both controlled materials and real ice core samples. The methodology requires little sample material, is non destructive, fully reproducible and does not require any sample preparation step. The presented framework can bolster research in the field, by cutting down processing time, supporting human-operated microscopy and further unlocking the paleoclimate potential of ice core records by providing the opportunity to identify an array of ice core particles. Suggestions for an improved system to be deployed within a continuous flow analysis workflow are also presented
