Resonant Auger spectromicroscopy in ultrathin Fe films on W(110)
L3M 2,3 M 2,3 Auger transition is measured near the L3 resonance of ferromagnetic Fe films on W(110). The kinetic energies of the Auger peaks display the typical Raman behaviour for photon energies well below the absorption threshold, where the Auger energy follows the changes in the photon energy. Classical Auger behaviour with constant kinetic energy sets in at about 1.5 eV below the L3 resonance independently from the number of Fe layers down to the monolayer thickness. Strong x-ray circular magnetic dichroism is observed at the L3 edge in the entire L3M 2,3 M 2,3 Auger spectrum. Different Auger features originating from the final state with two 3p core holes show slight variations in the dichroic signal, which is attributed to the exchange interaction between the core holes and the valence band. Finally, XMCD-PEEM magnetic domain imaging using Auger electrons is demonstrated with a high level of contrast and lateral resolution approaching that of imaging with secondary photoelectrons
Coupling Borophene to Graphene in Air-Stable Heterostructures
Artificial 2D van der Waals heterostructures with controllable vertical stacking and rotational orientation exhibit multifaceted electronic properties that are appealing for applications in fields ranging from optoelectronics to energy storage. Along with transition metal dichalcogenides and graphene, borophene has recently emerged as a promising building block for 2D devices due to its conductive nature as well as its exceptional mechanical and electronic properties. Here, it is demonstrated that the combination of the dissolution-segregation process and chemical vapor deposition allows for the synthesis of graphene/borophene heterostructures of the highest crystalline and chemical quality, in which graphene sits on top of the borophene layer with metallic character. The formation of laterally distinct micron-sized areas allows a comparative study of borophene, graphene, and the graphene–borophene heterostack in terms of their electronic properties and stability in a reactive environment. Whereas pristine borophene is particularly prone to oxidation, the graphene–borophene heterostack is chemically inert and enables the conservation of borophene's character even after exposure to air. This study opens up new perspectives for the scalable synthesis of graphene–borophene heterostacks with enhanced ability to preserve the metallic character and electronic properties of borophene
Observation of two new baryon resonances
Two structures are observed close to the kinematic threshold in the mass spectrum in a sample of proton-proton collision data, corresponding
to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb recorded by the LHCb experiment.
In the quark model, two baryonic resonances with quark content are
expected in this mass region: the spin-parity and
states, denoted and .
Interpreting the structures as these resonances, we measure the mass
differences and the width of the heavier state to be
MeV,
MeV,
MeV, where the first and second
uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The width of the
lighter state is consistent with zero, and we place an upper limit of
MeV at 95% confidence level. Relative
production rates of these states are also reported.Comment: 17 pages, 2 figure
Constraints on the unitarity triangle angle from Dalitz plot analysis of decays
The first study is presented of CP violation with an amplitude analysis of
the Dalitz plot of decays, with , and . The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to
of collisions collected with the LHCb detector. No
significant CP violation effect is seen, and constraints are placed on the
angle of the unitarity triangle formed from elements of the
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. Hadronic parameters associated
with the decay are determined for the first time. These
measurements can be used to improve the sensitivity to of existing and

Observation of resonances consistent with pentaquark states in decays
Observations of exotic structures in the channel, that we refer to
as pentaquark-charmonium states, in decays are
presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3/fb
acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions. An amplitude
analysis is performed on the three-body final-state that reproduces the
two-body mass and angular distributions. To obtain a satisfactory fit of the
structures seen in the mass spectrum, it is necessary to include two
Breit-Wigner amplitudes that each describe a resonant state. The significance
of each of these resonances is more than 9 standard deviations. One has a mass
of MeV and a width of MeV, while the second
is narrower, with a mass of MeV and a width of MeV. The preferred assignments are of opposite parity, with one
state having spin 3/2 and the other 5/2.Comment: 48 pages, 18 figures including the supplementary material, v2 after

A new algorithm for identifying the flavour of mesons at LHCb
A new algorithm for the determination of the initial flavour of
mesons is presented. The algorithm is based on two neural networks and exploits
the hadron production mechanism at a hadron collider. The first network is
trained to select charged kaons produced in association with the meson.
The second network combines the kaon charges to assign the flavour and
estimates the probability of a wrong assignment. The algorithm is calibrated
using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb collected
by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV
centre-of-mass energies. The calibration is performed in two ways: by resolving
the - flavour oscillations in
decays, and by analysing flavour-specific
decays. The tagging power measured in decays is found
to be \%, which is an
improvement of about 50\% compared to a similar algorithm previously used in

Measurement of the mass and lifetime of the baryon
A proton-proton collision data sample, corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 3 fb collected by LHCb at and 8 TeV, is used
to reconstruct , decays. Using the , decay mode for calibration, the lifetime ratio and absolute
lifetime of the baryon are measured to be \begin{align*}
\frac{\tau_{\Omega_b^-}}{\tau_{\Xi_b^-}} &= 1.11\pm0.16\pm0.03, \\
\tau_{\Omega_b^-} &= 1.78\pm0.26\pm0.05\pm0.06~{\rm ps}, \end{align*} where the
uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the calibration mode (for
only). A measurement is also made of the mass difference,
, and the corresponding mass, which
yields \begin{align*} m_{\Omega_b^-}-m_{\Xi_b^-} &= 247.4\pm3.2\pm0.5~{\rm
MeV}/c^2, \\ m_{\Omega_b^-} &= 6045.1\pm3.2\pm 0.5\pm0.6~{\rm MeV}/c^2.

Search for hidden-sector bosons in decays
A search is presented for hidden-sector bosons, , produced in the decay
, with and
. The search is performed using -collision data
corresponding to 3.0 fb collected with the LHCb detector. No significant
signal is observed in the accessible mass range
MeV, and upper limits are placed on the branching fraction product
as
a function of the mass and lifetime of the boson. These limits are of
the order of for lifetimes less than 100 ps over most of the
range, and place the most stringent constraints to date on many

Study of and decays and determination of the CKM angle
We report a study of the suppressed and favored
decays, where the neutral meson is detected
through its decays to the and CP-even and
final states. The measurement is carried out using a proton-proton
collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 3.0~fb. We observe the first significant
signals in the CP-even final states of the meson for both the suppressed
and favored modes, as well as
in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed final state of the decay. Evidence for the ADS suppressed decay , with , is also presented. From the observed
yields in the , and their
charge conjugate decay modes, we measure the value of the weak phase to be
. This is one of the most precise

Study of boson production in association with beauty and charm
The associated production of a boson with a jet originating from either a
light parton or heavy-flavor quark is studied in the forward region using
proton-proton collisions. The analysis uses data corresponding to integrated
luminosities of 1.0 and collected with the LHCb detector
at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. The bosons are
reconstructed using the decay and muons with a transverse
momentum, , larger than 20 GeV in the pseudorapidity range
GeV
and . The sum of the muon and jet momenta must satisfy
GeV. The fraction of jet events that originate from beauty
and charm quarks is measured, along with the charge asymmetries of the
and production cross-sections. The ratio of the jet to
jet production cross-sections is also measured using the
decay. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions
