Abundance analysis of the Gamma Doradus - Delta Scuti hybrid HD 8801

HD 8801 ist ein Gamma Doradus - Delta Scuti Hybrid - Pulsationsveränderlicher ohne Begleiter der Am - Stern Charakteristika aufweist. Dies macht den Stern zu einem einzigartigen astrophysikalischen Testobjekt für drei unabhängige physikalische Phänomene und erlaubt es die Randbedingungen für deren Koexistenz zu studieren. Die präsentierte Arbeit liefert die aus hochauflösenden spektroskopischen Daten ermittelten fundamentalen atmosphärischen Parameter und Elementhäufigkeiten dieses Sternes, basierend auf aktuellen Sternmodellen und Synthesecodes.HD 8801 is classified as a Gamma Doradus - Delta Scuti hybrid pulsator without a companion showing Am - star characteristics. This makes the star a unique astrophysical test object for three independent physical phenomena and allows to study the boundary conditions of their coexistence. The presented work provides the fundamental atmospheric parameters and element abundances of this star, derived from high resolution spectroscopic data using up-to-date stellar models and synthesis codes

Spectroscopic survey of Kepler stars. I. HERMES/Mercator observations of A- and F-type stars

The Kepler space mission provided near-continuous and high-precision photometry of about 207 000 stars, which can be used for asteroseismology. However, for successful seismic modeling it is equally important to have accurate stellar physical parameters. Therefore, supplementary ground-based data are needed. We report the results of the analysis of high-resolution spectroscopic data of A- and F-type stars from the Kepler field, which were obtained with the HERMES spectrograph on the Mercator telescope. We determined spectral types, atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances for a sample of 117 stars. Hydrogen Balmer, Fe i, and Fe ii lines were used to derive effective temperatures, surface gravities, and microturbulent velocities. We determined chemical abundances and projected rotational velocities using a spectrum synthesis technique. The atmospheric parameters obtained were compared with those from the Kepler Input Catalogue (KIC), confirming that the KIC effective temperatures are underestimated for A stars. Effective temperatures calculated by spectral energy distribution fitting are in good agreement with those determined from the spectral line analysis. The analysed sample comprises stars with approximately solar chemical abundances, as well as chemically peculiar stars of the Am, Ap, and λ Boo types. The distribution of the projected rotational velocity, vsin i, is typical for A and F stars and ranges from 8 to about 280 km s−1, with a mean of 134 km s−1

Der Übergang zur postparentalen Phase entspricht einem normativen Ereignis innerhalb des familiären Lebenszyklus und bringt nicht nur für die unabhängig gewordenen jungen Er-wachsenen eine bewegte Zeit mit neuen Rollen und Ansprüchen mit sich. Eltern sehen heut-zutage aufgrund steigender Lebenserwartung grundsätzlich einer längeren noch verbleiben-den Lebenszeit nach dem Auszug ihrer Kinder entgegen. Als Forschungsgegenstand der Entwicklungspsychologie blieb die postparentale Phase dennoch lange Zeit weitgehend un-berücksichtigt, darüber hinaus konzentrierte sich die frühere Forschung überwiegend auf das mütterliche Auszugserleben. Trotz des gesellschaftlichen Wandels in Richtung neuer, invol-vierter Väter wurde der väterlichen Bewältigung des Auszugs eines Kindes wenig Beachtung geschenkt. Studien zum väterlichen Wohlbefinden in der postparentalen Phase untersuchten meist das psychologische Wohlbefinden, emotionale bzw. affektive Komponenten blieben auf der Strecke. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden quantitativen Studie wurden verschiedene Va-riablen auf einen möglichen Zusammenhang mit dem väterlichen subjektiven Wohlbefinden untersucht. Insgesamt nahmen 138 Väter, deren erwachsenes Kind innerhalb der letzten zwei Jahre ausgezogen war, teil. Dazu wurden die Relationship Assessment Scale (Hendrick, 1988), die Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener et al., 1985), die Scale of Positive and Nega-tive Emotions (Rahm et al., 2017) sowie selbst konstruierte Fragen vorgegeben. Väter, die eine bessere Qualität der Beziehung zur Partnerin sowie jener zum ausgezogenen Kind be-richteten, zeigten insgesamt eine signifikant höhere Lebenszufriedenheit. Das retrospektiv bewertete väterliche Involvement während der Erziehungsjahre scheint den Ergebnissen der vorliegenden Arbeit zufolge besonderen Einfluss auf das subjektive Wohlbefinden in der postparentalen Phase auszuüben: Hierzu zeigten sich signifikante, positive Zusammenhänge sowohl auf kognitiver als auch auf affektiver Ebene. Weitere (Langzeit-) Studien wären wünschenswert, um das väterliche Auszugserleben und die damit verbundenen Veränderun-gen in familiären Beziehungsmustern längerfristig erfassen zu können.The transition to the post-parental phase is a normative development within the family lifecycle. With new roles and requirements not only for the young adults who are recently independent, it is a significant event. Due to increasing life expectancy, parents nowadays face a prolonged period of life after their offspring leave home. As an object of research, the post-parental phase has been largely disregarded. Furthermore, earlier studies focused to a greater extent on the mothers’ experiences with regards to their children leaving the family home. In spite of demographic change toward new, involved fatherhood, little attention has been paid to paternal coping strategies. Research that did focus on paternal wellbeing at the post-parental stage, often investigated psychological wellbeing at the expense of the emo-tional and affective components. In this quantitative study, possible associations between various variables and the subjective wellbeing of fathers have been investigated. In total 138 fathers, whose adult children left home within the last two years, participated. The Relati-onship Assessment Scale (RAS; Hendrick, 1998), the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS; Diener et al., 1985), the Scale of Positive and Negative Emotions (SPANE; Rahm et al., 2017) as well as self constructed items have been used. Fathers who reported a better rela-tionship with their partners as well as with their children who left home showed a signifi-cantly higher life satisfaction overall. Retrospectively assessed paternal involvement during the educational years seems to have particular influence on subjective wellbeing in the post-parental phase: in this context, findings show substantial interconnections on the cognitive as well as the affective level. Further studies, particularly long-term, are recommended to further the understanding of paternal experiences when children leave home, as well as the subsequent transformation of familial relationships and ties

Direct Catalytic Anti-Markovnikov Hydroetherification of Alkenols

A direct intramolecular anti-Markovnikov hydroetherification reaction of alkenols is described. By employing catalytic quantities of commercially-available 9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium perchlorate and 2-phenylmalononitrile as a redox-cycling source of a hydrogen atom, we report the anti-Markovnikov hydroetherification of alkenes with complete regioselectivity. In addition, we present results demonstrating that this novel catalytic system can be applied to the anti-Markovnikov hydrolactonization of alkenoic acids
