IEEE Access special section editorial: Artificial intelligence enabled networking

    Get PDF
With today’s computer networks becoming increasingly dynamic, heterogeneous, and complex, there is great interest in deploying artificial intelligence (AI) based techniques for optimization and management of computer networks. AI techniques—that subsume multidisciplinary techniques from machine learning, optimization theory, game theory, control theory, and meta-heuristics—have long been applied to optimize computer networks in many diverse settings. Such an approach is gaining increased traction with the emergence of novel networking paradigms that promise to simplify network management (e.g., cloud computing, network functions virtualization, and software-defined networking) and provide intelligent services (e.g., future 5G mobile networks). Looking ahead, greater integration of AI into networking architectures can help develop a future vision of cognitive networks that will show network-wide intelligent behavior to solve problems of network heterogeneity, performance, and quality of service (QoS)

Reliability is an important area that is receiving attention globally. This paper studies reliability analysis of a two-dissimilar-unit cold standby system with three modes using Kolmogorov forward equation’s method, in which its reliability and availability analysis are evaluated. This proposed system has been investigated under three modes: normal, partial failure, total failure. The failure and the repair time are assumed to have exponential distribution. The effect of failure rate on meantime to system failure (MTSF ), steady state availability ( AT (∞) ) and the profit function PF(∞) of the system are compared. It was found thatMTSF , AT (∞) , and PF(∞) are decreasing with the increase of the failure rate. Keywords: Cost analysis, Meantime to System Failure, Steady State Availability and Kolmogorov forward equation

The oil palm industry in Malaysia plays an important role in the growth of the agricultural sector in this country through its contribution to the Gross Domestic product (GDP), foreign exchange, and employment. Oil palm demands are continual increasing as it can produce high yield and low production cost. The present study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the implementation of Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) among the independent smallholders in Malaysia. The result observed several socio-economic factors that can lead to the implementation practices such as smallholder's age, perceived benefits of MSPO, smallholder's education level, Cost of MSPO, knowledge towards MSPO and government support of MSPO. Empirical data shows that there is a need to introduce policies that will guide palm oil smallholders towards sustainable production in order to sustain our oil palm industries in the global market. This study reveals the factors influencing the implementation of Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) among the independent smallholders in Malaysia

Performance analysis of hybrid 5G cellular networks exploiting mmWave capabilities in suburban areas

    Get PDF
Millimeter wave (mmWave) technology is considered as a key enabler for fifth generation (5G) networks to achieve higher data rates with low transmission power by offloading the users with low signal-to-noise-ratios. Millimeter wave networks operating at E and W frequency bands have available bandwidth of 1 GHz or more to provide higher data rates whereas their propagation characteristics differ greatly from the conventional Ultra High Frequency (UHF) networks operating at sub 6 GHz frequency band. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the performance in terms of coverage and rate, of hybrid cellular networks where base stations (BSs) operating at mmWave and sub 6 GHz bands coexist in suburban environment such as a university campus. The actual building locations within a suburban university campus are modeled as blockages and the analysis is carried out for different densities of UHF and mmWave BSs for different densities of outdoor users. Our analysis also highlight the fact that mmWave cellular networks are predominantly noise-limited due to larger available bandwidth in comparison to the interference limited conventional UHF networks. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of dense deployment of mmWave BSs to achieve better coverage and rate probabilities in comparison to the stand alone UHF network

beta-Xylosidases:Structural Diversity, Catalytic Mechanism, and Inhibition by Monosaccharides

Xylan, a prominent component of cellulosic biomass, has a high potential for degradation into reducing sugars, and subsequent conversion into bioethanol. This process requires a range of xylanolytic enzymes. Among them, beta-xylosidases are crucial, because they hydrolyze more glycosidic bonds than any of the other xylanolytic enzymes. They also enhance the efficiency of the process by degrading xylooligosaccharides, which are potent inhibitors of other hemicellulose-/xylan-converting enzymes. On the other hand, the beta-xylosidase itself is also inhibited by monosaccharides that may be generated in high concentrations during the saccharification process. Structurally, beta-xylosidases are diverse enzymes with different substrate specificities and enzyme mechanisms. Here, we review the structural diversity and catalytic mechanisms of beta-xylosidases, and discuss their inhibition by monosaccharides

Accounting for the Effects of Oil Prices on Exchange Rate in Nigeria: Empirical Evidence from Linear and Non-Linear ARDL Models

    Get PDF
This study empirically examines the impact oil prices on the exchange rate in Nigeria. Time series annual dataset spanning 1980 to 2018 was estimated using the linear and nonlinear ARDL model developed by Pesaran and Shin, (1998) & Pesaran, et al. (2001) and Shin, et al. (2014); where oil prices, nominal exchange rate, interest rate, and oil revenue serves as the variables for analysis.  From the result of the linear-ARDL models  both the long run and short-run revealed that oil price has positive and significant impact on exchange rate. Similarly, the nonlinear model also revealed that in both the long run and the short-run, both the rising and falling oil prices have an increasing impact on exchange rate. Policy implication for the findings suggests that, the authority should hold the exchange rate constant during a stable period of oil prices in order to exert pressure on the foreign currency so that the oil prices will continue to have increasing impact on exchange rate as it was during the rising and falling periods
