Mob Rulers And Part-time Cleaners: Two Reef Fish Associations At The Isolated Ascension Island
Isolated oceanic islands may give rise not only to new and endemic species, but also to unique behaviours and species interactions. Multi-species fish interactions, such as cleaning, following, mob-feeding and others are understudied in these ecosystems. Here we present qualitative and quantitative observations on cleaning and mob-feeding reef fish associations at the isolated Ascension Island, South Atlantic Ocean. Cleaning interactions were dominated by juveniles of the facultative fish cleaners Bodianus insularis and Pomacanthus paru, with lesser contributions of Chaetodon sanctaehelenae, Thalassoma ascensionis and the cleaner shrimp Lysmata grabhami. Two types of feeding mobs were consistently identified: less mobile mobs led by the surgeonfish Acanthurus bahianus and A. coeruleus and the more mobile mobs led by the African sergeant Abudefduf hoefleri. This is the first record of A. hoefleri from outside of the Eastern Atlantic and also the first report of this species displaying mob-feeding behaviour. The principal follower of both mob types was the extremely abundant Melichthys niger, but the main aggressor differed: Stegastes lubbocki, a highly territorial herbivore, was the main aggressor of Acanthurus mobs; and Chromis multilineata a territorial fish while engaged in egg parental care, was the principal aggressor towards Abudefduf mobs. Our study enhances the scarce information on reef fish feeding associations at the isolated Ascension Island and at oceanic islands in the Atlantic in general. Hypoxia‐responsive prodrug of ATR inhibitor, AZD6738, selectively eradicates treatment‐resistant cancer cells
Targeted therapy remains the future of anti‐cancer drug development, owing to the lack of specificity of current treatments which lead to damage in healthy normal tissues. ATR inhibitors have in recent times demonstrated promising clinical potential, and are currently being evaluated in the clinic. However, despite the considerable optimism for clinical success of these inhibitors, reports of associated normal tissues toxicities remain a concern and can compromise their utility. Here, ICT10336 is reported, a newly developed hypoxia‐responsive prodrug of ATR inhibitor, AZD6738, which is hypoxia‐activated and specifically releases AZD6738 only in hypoxic conditions, in vitro. This hypoxia‐selective release of AZD6738 inhibited ATR activation (T1989 and S428 phosphorylation) and subsequently abrogated HIF1a‐mediated adaptation of hypoxic cancers cells, thus selectively inducing cell death in 2D and 3D cancer models. Importantly, in normal tissues, ICT10336 is demonstrated to be metabolically stable and less toxic to normal cells than its active parent agent, AZD6738. In addition, ICT10336 exhibited a superior and efficient multicellular penetration ability in 3D tumor models, and selectively eradicated cells at the hypoxic core compared to AZD6738. In summary, the preclinical data demonstrate a new strategy of tumor‐targeted delivery of ATR inhibitors with significant potential of enhancing the therapeutic index
Influence of the coorbital resonance on the rotation of the Trojan satellites of Saturn
The Cassini spacecraft collects high resolution images of the saturnian
satellites and reveals the surface of these new worlds. The shape and rotation
of the satellites can be determined from the Cassini Imaging Science Subsystem
data, employing limb coordinates and stereogrammetric control points. This is
the case for Epimetheus (Tiscareno et al. 2009) that opens elaboration of new
rotational models (Tiscareno et al. 2009; Noyelles 2010; Robutel et al. 2011).
Especially, Epimetheus is characterized by its horseshoe shape orbit and the
presence of the swap is essential to introduce explicitly into rotational
models. During its journey in the saturnian system, Cassini spacecraft
accumulates the observational data of the other satellites and it will be
possible to determine the rotational parameters of several of them. To prepare
these future observations, we built rotational models of the coorbital (also
called Trojan) satellites Telesto, Calypso, Helene, and Polydeuces, in addition
to Janus and Epimetheus. Indeed, Telesto and Calypso orbit around the L_4 and
L_5 Lagrange points of Saturn-Tethys while Helene and Polydeuces are coorbital
of Dione. The goal of this study is to understand how the departure from the
Keplerian motion induced by the perturbations of the coorbital body, influences
the rotation of these satellites. To this aim, we introduce explicitly the
perturbation in the rotational equations by using the formalism developed by
Erdi (1977) to represent the coorbital motions, and so we describe the
rotational motion of the coorbitals, Janus and Epimetheus included, in compact
form
Design Specifications for an Auxiliary Incision Retractor in Dacryocystorhinostomy Surgeries
It is presented the design specifications for a Retractor Robotic System (RRS) based on the surgical necessities in the incisions procedure for a dacryocystorhinostomy. The specifications are conformed by a mathematical model, the experimental data measured, a modular flexible architecture, energy supplier system, the mechanical group, and the safety system. Stripes and holes in a two-dimensional model of spinless fermions and hardcore bosons
We consider a Hubbard-like model of strongly-interacting spinless fermions
and hardcore bosons on a square lattice, such that nearest neighbor occupation
is forbidden. Stripes (lines of holes across the lattice forming antiphase
walls between ordered domains) are a favorable way to dope this system below
half-filling. The problem of a single stripe can be mapped to a spin-1/2 chain,
which allows understanding of its elementary excitations and calculation of the
stripe's effective mass for transverse vibrations. Using Lanczos exact
diagonalization, we investigate the excitation gap and dispersion of a hole on
a stripe, and the interaction of two holes. We also study the interaction of
two, three, and four stripes, finding that they repel, and the interaction
energy decays with stripe separation as if they are hardcore particles moving
in one (transverse) direction. To determine the stability of an array of
stripes against phase separation into particle-rich phase and hole-rich liquid,
we evaluate the liquid's equation of state, finding the stripe-array is not
stable for bosons but is possibly stable for fermions.Comment: 24 pages, 18 figure

The future problem solving program international: an intervention to promote creative skills in portuguese adolescents
The Future Problem Solving Program International (FPSPI) is an internationally applied educational
program that involves young people. Its theoretical foundation is both the Creative Problem Solving
Model and the Futurist Thinking. It aims to promote creative and critical thinking through a futurist
approach to problems. This study intended to analyze the effects of the program on creative skills evaluated
by the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (Figural Version). The participants’ perceptions of the
efficacy of the program were also assessed. This intervention was carried out with 131 adolescents over
a period of 7 months in an extra-curricular context. The evaluation of the program takes into account
periods both before and after interventions, using similar experimental and control groups. The results
showed significant statistical differences for the all skills studied and very positive perceptions of the
efficacy of FPSPI. Two significant gender differences in creative performance were also found. The
