Chemotherapy agents can cause a wide range of adverse effects. Taste related symptoms are a common toxicity of the chemotherapic agents like cisplatin, taxanes or cyclophosphamide. Although the loss of olfactory and gustatory function is not outwardly apparent, it affects the patient substantially in daily life. Subjective taste and smell changes is in 75% of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Taste alterations have been incorporated in the National Cancer Institute Common Toxicity Criteria since 1999. There is evidence that this type of alterations in cancer patients negatively affect quality of life. It is very important to inform the patient about this adverse effect because the recovery process will be slow and may take many months. There is an urgent need for increased attention to this effect, both in research and in clinical practice.

Tissue Engineering and Regeneration of the Human Hair Follicle in Androgenetic Alopecia: Literature Review
This research was funded by Instituto de Investigacion Biosanitaria de Granada (Ibs).Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is an androgen-dependent process and represents the most
frequent non-scarring alopecia. Treatments for AGA do not always achieve a satisfactory result
for the patient, and sometimes cause side effects that lead to discontinuation of treatment. AGA
therapeutics currently includes topical and oral drugs, as well as follicular unit micro-transplantation
techniques. Tissue engineering (TE) is postulated as one of the possible future solutions to the
problem and aims to develop fully functional hair follicles that maintain their cyclic rhythm in a
physiological manner. However, despite its great potential, reconstitution of fully functional hair
follicles is still a challenge to overcome and the knowledge gained of the key processes in hair follicle
morphogenesis and biology has not yet been translated into effective replacement therapies in clinical
practice. To achieve this, it is necessary to research and develop new approaches, techniques and
biomaterials. In this review, present and emerging hair follicle bioengineering strategies are evaluated.
The current problems of these bioengineering techniques are discussed, as well as the advantages and
disadvantages, and the future prospects for the field of TE and successful hair follicle regeneration.Instituto de Investigacion Biosanitaria de Granada (Ibs
Strength of ties and pioneering orientation: The moderating role of scanning capabilities
The purpose of this article is to study the curvilinear effect on pioneering orientation of one of its key relational backgrounds: strength of ties. The study is based on a sample of 224 companies in the footwear industry in Spain. A hierarchical regression analysis was performed. The results show a curvilinear U-shaped relationship between the strength of ties and pioneering orientation. This curvilinear relationship is increasingly pronounced as scanning capabilities grow. Managers wishing to develop a pioneering orientation should avoid excessive levels of strength in their ties and unduly low levels. Furthermore, firms might benefit from developing scanning capability
Effect of enzyme supplements on macronutrient digestibility by healthy adult dogs
Some enzyme supplement products claim benefits for healthy dogs to compensate for alleged suboptimal production of endogenous enzymes and the loss of enzymes in commercial pet foods secondary to processing. The objective of the current study was to determine macronutrient and energy digestibility by healthy adult dogs fed a commercial maintenance diet with or without supplementation with plant- and animal-origin enzyme products at the dosage recommended by their respective manufacturers. A group of fourteen healthy neutered adult Beagle dogs (average age 8 years) was divided into two equal groups and fed the basal diet alone and then with either the plant- or animal-origin enzyme supplement in three consecutive 10-d periods; the treatment groups received the opposite enzyme supplement in the third period. Digestibility in each period was performed by the total faecal collection method. Serum trypsin-like immunoreactivity (TLI) was measured at the end of each trial. Data were analysed by repeated measures and the α level of significance was set at 0·05. There were no differences in energy and nutrient digestibility between enzyme treatments. When comparing basal with enzyme supplementation, fat digestibility was higher for the basal diet compared with the animal-origin enzyme treatment, which could be a period effect and was not biologically significant (94·7 v. 93·5 %). Serum TLI was not affected by supplementation with either enzyme product. Exogenous enzyme supplementation did not significantly increase digestibility of a typical commercial dry diet in healthy adult dogs and routine use of such products is not recommended
