    A PATH ENUMERATION REFORMULATION OF THE SCHEDULE MIXED INTEGER PROGRAM SUPPORTING EXPEDITIONARY ADVANCED BASE OPERATIONS.

    The U.S. Marine Corps needs an accurate model for analyzing its logistical needs in support of Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO). EABO is a doctrinal method used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps for denying adversary forces access to the maritime global commons. Deployment and sustainment of forces engaged in EABO requires a distribution network supported by various surface and airborne connector platforms of differing capacity and speed. The Marine Corps currently has a model for analyzing its distribution networks in support of EABO, the Schedule Mixed Integer Program (S-MIP). However, the computational difficulty of S-MIP limits its usefulness in large-scale experiments. This thesis describes a path enumeration-based reformulation known as the Path Enumeration Mixed-Integer Program (PE-MIP). PE-MIP is designed to provide a less computationally difficult model than the antecedent model S-MIP. We compare the runtime of PE-MIP and the quality of its solutions with that of S-MIP model and find that PE-MIP provides faster and superior results to S-MIP.     CHANNEL INTEGRATION TOWARDS OMNICHANNEL MANAGEMENT: A LITERATURE REVIEW

    The evolution of technology and the constant digitalisation strongly influence how consumers behave, how markets develop, and how companies and consumers interact. By offering many channels, companies attempt to react to these developments. In recent years, researchers as well as practitioners have proposed omnichannel management as the best approach to offer several channels. An omnichannel strategy enables consumers to use channels seamlessly and interchangeably and experience the channels uniquely. However, reality looks different: many channel management approaches coexist in practice, and in research, terms to describe different concepts are used without clear distinctions. This paper seeks to eliminate ambiguities regarding the term omnichannel management. By delimiting the term from related approaches and understanding current topics discussed by omnichannel management research, this paper creates a common basis from which to fully understand the concept. Omnichannel management has shown relevance in many areas, but particularly in retailing, marketing, and information systems (IS) research. IS plays an important role in the implementation of the omnichannel approach because obstacles are often technology-related and companies are strongly dependent on information technology (IT).     Transitioning to an Omnichannel Approach: A Dynamic Capability Perspective

    The proliferation of digital devices and services has fundamentally changed consumer behavior and needs, and thus the way consumers engage with firms. Many consumers want to engage with firms across all channels, enjoying seamless switching and simultaneous use. Within this dynamic channel environment, the omnichannel concept has been proposed as an appropriate approach to fulfill these demands. However, in practice, many firms do not yet provide an omnichannel experience and need to transform. With this research-in-progress paper, we outline our approach to investigating this phenomenon based on the concept of dynamic capabilities. With insight gained through a multiple case study approach, we hope to give practitioners decision support and researchers new stimuli for further research by identifying best practice dynamic capabilities for transitioning to omnichannel management

    Digital Nudging: Altering User Behavior in Digital Environments

    Individuals make increasingly more decisions on screens, such as those on websites or mobile apps. However, the nature of screens and the vast amount of information available online make individuals particularly prone to deficient decisions. Digital nudging is an approach based on insights from behavioral economics that applies user interface (UI) design elements to affect the choices of users in digital environments. UI design elements include graphic design, specific content, wording or small features. To date, little is known about the psychological mechanisms that underlie digital nudging. To address this research gap, we conducted a systematic literature review and provide a comprehensive overview of relevant psychological effects and exemplary nudges in the physical and digital sphere. These insights serve as a valuable basis for researchers and practitioners that aim to study or design information systems and interventions that assist user decision making on screens

    Mit dieser qualitativen Forschungsstudie möchte der Frage nachgegangen werden wie nachhaltig sich die Berufswahl von Jugendlichen mit einer Beeinträchtigung im Anschluss an eine praktische Ausbildung nach INSOS gestaltet. Dabei ist die subjektive Erfahrung der Jugendlichen von zentraler Bedeutung. Diese soll Rahmenbedingungen und weitere förderliche oder hinderliche Faktoren aufzeigen, welche zur erfolgreichen beruflichen Integration beitragen. Als Untersuchungsdesign dient eine qualitative Evaluation. Mit einer Stichprobe von acht jugendlichen Absolventen der beruflichen praktischen Ausbildung wurde anhand von halbstrukturierten Interviews das Erfahrungswissen erfragt. Die Auswertung der Daten erfolgte mittels der qualitativ strukturierten Inhaltsanalyse. Es zeigt sich, dass die Möglichkeit einer Praktischen Ausbildung nach INSOS eine Ausbildungsmöglichkeit darstellt, die individuell und personenzentriert gestaltet werden kann und die Chance für eine spätere Berufsausübung mit einer expliziten Kompetenzförderung des einzelnen Jugendlichen stärkt. Der Berufswahlprozess und insbesondere die Erfahrung im Bereich des Kennenlernens von eigenen Kompetenzen, ist für eine nachhaltige berufliche Integration von Bedeutung. So kann eine angepasste Ressourcenförderung während der Ausbildung unter Berücksichtigung der Einschränkungen und basierend auf einer selbstbestimmten Berufswahl die berufliche Integration unterstützen

    The Clicker Study

    Purpose: A recent study in orthopedics showed that clicker-based learning was more effective than traditional feedback when teaching procedures. We sought to determine whether this principle is applicable to ultrasound skills. Methods: Our prospective randomized control trial used a population of new ultrasound learners. Exclusion criteria included previous ultrasound experience of more than one hour. Students were shown an instructional video on the Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST) exam and randomized to receive clicker or scripted feedback. Each student performed the FAST exam once without feedback, then with either scripted or clicker-based feedback. They were timed and scored on 18 microskills. Results and Conclusions: 45 students were enrolled in the study, with 6 excluded from analysis. This included 24 premedical and 15 medical students. No significant differences were observed between groups for time or accuracy on the FAST exam. Among medical students, there was a trend toward faster results in the clicker group (mean=83 seconds) than the script group (mean=103 seconds) (p=0.22). Among undergraduates, there was a trend toward higher accuracy in the script group (mean=100%) than the clicker group (mean=95%) (p=0.068) and towards faster performance (mean=103 seconds) than the clicker group (mean=121 seconds) (p=0.38). Although no significant differences were observed, there seemed to be a trend toward faster performance with clicker feedback among medical students and faster and more accurate performance with scripted feedback among premedical students. This may be an area for future study

    Identification of lncRNAs involved in response to ionizing radiation in fibroblasts of long-term survivors of childhood cancer and cancer-free controls

    IntroductionLong non-coding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) are involved in the cellular damage response following exposure to ionizing radiation as applied in radiotherapy. However, the role of lncRNAs in radiation response concerning intrinsic susceptibility to late effects of radiation exposure has not been examined in general or in long-term survivors of childhood cancer with and without potentially radiotherapy-related second primary cancers, in particular.MethodsPrimary skin fibroblasts (n=52 each) of long-term childhood cancer survivors with a first primary cancer only (N1), at least one second primary neoplasm (N2+), as well as tumor-free controls (N0) from the KiKme case-control study were matched by sex, age, and additionally by year of diagnosis and entity of the first primary cancer. Fibroblasts were exposed to 0.05 and 2 Gray (Gy) X-rays. Differentially expressed lncRNAs were identified with and without interaction terms for donor group and dose. Weighted co-expression networks of lncRNA and mRNA were constructed using WGCNA. Resulting gene sets (modules) were correlated to the radiation doses and analyzed for biological function.ResultsAfter irradiation with 0.05Gy, few lncRNAs were differentially expressed (N0: AC004801.4; N1: PCCA-DT, AF129075.3, LINC00691, AL158206.1; N2+: LINC02315). In reaction to 2 Gy, the number of differentially expressed lncRNAs was higher (N0: 152, N1: 169, N2+: 146). After 2 Gy, AL109976.1 and AL158206.1 were prominently upregulated in all donor groups. The co-expression analysis identified two modules containing lncRNAs that were associated with 2 Gy (module1: 102 mRNAs and 4 lncRNAs: AL158206.1, AL109976.1, AC092171.5, TYMSOS, associated with p53-mediated reaction to DNA damage; module2: 390 mRNAs, 7 lncRNAs: AC004943.2, AC012073.1, AC026401.3, AC092718.4, MIR31HG, STXBP5-AS1, TMPO-AS1, associated with cell cycle regulation).DiscussionFor the first time, we identified the lncRNAs AL158206.1 and AL109976.1 as involved in the radiation response in primary fibroblasts by differential expression analysis. The co-expression analysis revealed a role of these lncRNAs in the DNA damage response and cell cycle regulation post-IR. These transcripts may be targets in cancer therapy against radiosensitivity, as well as provide grounds for the identification of at-risk patients for immediate adverse reactions in healthy tissues. With this work we deliver a broad basis and new leads for the examination of lncRNAs in the radiation response

    A process of resection-dependent nonhomologous end joining involving the goddess Artemis

    DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are a hazardous form of damage that can potentially cause cell death or genomic rearrangements. In mammalian G1- and G2-phase cells, DSBs are repaired with two-component kinetics. In both phases, a fast process uses canonical nonhomologous end joining (c-NHEJ) to repair the majority of DSBs. In G2, slow repair occurs by homologous recombination. The slow repair process in G1 also involves c-NHEJ proteins but additionally requires the nuclease Artemis and DNA end resection. Here, we consider the nature of slow DSB repair in G1 and evaluate factors determining whether DSBs are repaired with fast or slow kinetics. We consider limitations in our current knowledge and present a speculative model for Artemis-dependent c-NHEJ and the environment underlying its usage
