Fuzzy Recommendations in Marketing Campaigns
The population in Sweden is growing rapidly due to immigration. In this
light, the issue of infrastructure upgrades to provide telecommunication
services is of importance. New antennas can be installed at hot spots of user
demand, which will require an investment, and/or the clientele expansion can be
carried out in a planned manner to promote the exploitation of the
infrastructure in the less loaded geographical zones. In this paper, we explore
the second alternative. Informally speaking, the term Infrastructure-Stressing
describes a user who stays in the zones of high demand, which are prone to
produce service failures, if further loaded. We have studied the
Infrastructure-Stressing population in the light of their correlation with
geo-demographic segments. This is motivated by the fact that specific
geo-demographic segments can be targeted via marketing campaigns. Fuzzy logic
is applied to create an interface between big data, numeric methods for

Competing interactions in two dimensional Coulomb systems: Surface charge heterogeneities in co-assembled cationic-anionic incompatible mixtures
A binary mixture of oppositely charged components confined to a plane such as
cationic and anionic lipid bilayers may exhibit local segregation. The relative
strength of the net short range interactions, which favors macroscopic
segregation, and the long range electrostatic interactions, which favors
mixing, determines the length scale of the finite size or microphase
segregation. The free energy of the system can be examined analytically in two
separate regimes, when considering small density fluctuations at high
temperatures, and when considering the periodic ordering of the system at low
temperatures (F. J. Solis and M. Olvera de la Cruz, J. Chem. Phys. 122, 054905
(2000)). A simple Molecular Dynamics simulation of oppositely charged monomers,
interacting with a short range Lennard Jones potential and confined to a two
dimensional plane, is examined at different strengths of short and long range
interactions. The system exhibits well-defined domains that can be
characterized by their periodic length-scale as well as the orientational
ordering of their interfaces. By adding salt, the ordering of the domains
disappears and the mixture macroscopically phase segregates in agreement with

Why Local Party Leaders Don't Support Nominating Centrists
Would giving party leaders more influence in primary elections in the United States decrease elite polarization? Some scholars have argued that political party leaders tend to support centrist candidates in the hopes of winning general elections. In contrast, the authors argue that many local party leaders - especially Republicans - may not believe that centrists perform better in elections and therefore may not support nominating them. They test this argument using data from an original survey of 1,118 county-level party leaders. In experiments, they find that local party leaders most prefer nominating candidates who are similar to typical co-partisans, not centrists. Moreover, given the choice between a more centrist and more extreme candidate, they strongly prefer extremists: Democrats do so by about 2 to 1 and Republicans by 10 to 1. Likewise, in open-ended questions, Democratic Party leaders are twice as likely to say they look for extreme candidates relative to centrists; Republican Party leaders are five times as likely. Potentially driving these partisan differences, Republican leaders are especially likely to believe that extremists can win general elections and overestimate the electorate's conservatism by double digits
The ``Outside-In'' Outburst of HT Cassiopeiae
We present results from photometric observations of the dwarf nova system HT
Cas during the eruption of November 1995. The data include the first
two--colour observations of an eclipse on the rise to outburst. They show that
during the rise to outburst the disc deviates significantly from steady state
models, but the inclusion of an inner-disc truncation radius of about 4
and a ``flared'' disc of semi-opening angle of produces
acceptable fits. The disc is found to have expanded at the start of the
outburst to about , as compared to quiescent measurements. The
accretion disc then gradually decreases in radius reaching during
the last stages of the eruption. Quiescent eclipses were also observed prior to

The hard to soft spectral transition in LMXBs - affected by recondensation of gas into an inner disk
Soft and hard spectral states of X-ray transient sources reflect two modes of
accretion, accretion via a geometrically thin, optically thick disk or an
advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF). The luminosity at transition between
these two states seems to vary from source to source, or even for the same
source during different outbursts, as observed for GX 339-4. We investigate how
the existence of an inner weak disk in the hard state affects the transition
luminosity. We evaluate the structure of the corona above an outer truncated
disk and the resulting disk evaporation rate for different irradiation. In some
cases, recent observations of X-ray transients indicate the presence of an
inner cool disk during the hard state. Such a disk can remain during quiescence
after the last outburst as long as the luminosity does not drop to very low
values (10^-4 to 10^-3 of the Eddington luminosity). Consequently, as part of
the matter accretes via the inner disk, the hard irradiation is reduced. The
hard irradiation is further reduced, occulted and partly reflected by the inner
disk. This leads to a hard-soft transition at a lower luminosity if an inner
disk exists below the ADAF. This seems to be supported by observations for GX

The isocohomological property, higher Dehn functions, and relatively hyperbolic groups
The property that the polynomial cohomology with coefficients of a finitely
generated discrete group is canonically isomorphic to the group cohomology is
called the (weak) isocohomological property for the group. In the case when a
group is of type , i.e. that has a classifying space with the
homotopy type of a cellular complex with finitely many cells in each dimension,
we show that the isocohomological property is equivalent to the universal cover
of the classifying space satisfying polynomially bounded higher Dehn functions.
If a group is hyperbolic relative to a collection of subgroups, each of which
is polynomially combable (respectively and isocohomological), then
we show that the group itself has these respective properties too. Combining
with the results of Connes-Moscovici and Dru{\c{t}}u-Sapir we conclude that a
group satisfies the Novikov conjecture if it is relatively hyperbolic to
subgroups that are of property RD, of type and isocohomological.Comment: 35 pages, no figure
Lateralization of circadian pacemaker output: Activation of left- and right-sided luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone neurons involves a neural rather than a humoral pathway
Locomotor activity and luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion in golden hamsters share a common circadian pacemaker in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), but the rhythms do not seem to share a common output pathway from the SCN. Locomotion is believed to be driven by humoral factor(s), whereas LH secretion may depend on specific ipsilateral neural efferents from the SCN to LH releasing hormone (LHRH)-containing neurons in the preoptic area. In this paper we provide the first functional evidence for such efferents in neurologically intact hamsters by exploiting a phenomenon known as splitting in constant light, in which circa-12 hr (approximately 12 hr) locomotor activity bouts reflect an antiphase oscillation of the left and right sides of the bilaterally paired SCN. In ovariectomized, estrogen-treated (OVX + E2) female hamsters, splitting is also known to include circa-12 hr LH secretory surges. Here we show that behaviorally split OVX + E2 females exhibit a marked left-right asymmetry in immunoreactive c-Fos expression in both SCN and activated LHRH neurons, with the percentage of LHRH+/c-Fos+ double-labeled cells approximately fivefold higher on the side corresponding to the side of the SCN with higher c-Fos immunoreactivity. Our results suggest that splitting involves alternating left- and right-sided stimulation of LHRH neurons; under such circumstances, the functional activity of the neuroendocrine hypothalamus mirrors intrinsic side-to-side differences in SCN gene expression. The circadian regulation of reproductive activity depends on lateralized, point-to-point axonal projections rather than on diffusible factors
