Testrun results from prototype fiber detectors for high rate particle tracking

A fiber detector concept has been realized allowing to registrate particles within less than 100 nsec with a space point precision of about 0.1 mm at low occupancy. Three full size prototypes have been build by different producers and tested at a 3 GeV electron beam at DESY. After 3 m of light guides 8-10 photoelectrons were registrated by multichannel photomultipliers providing an efficiency of more than 99%. Using all available data a resolution of 0.086 mm was measured.Comment: 18 pages, 17 figure

THE SWISS MODEL OF RELATIONS WITH THE EU AFTER THE YEAR 2021

In the article, the peculiarities of the Swiss model of relations with the EU are considered. The political and economic aspects are distinguished. The first category includes, among other is- sues, the alignment with the EU foreign policy, preserving, nevertheless, the own principles of neu- trality and sovereignty, as well as an active participation in the EU programs. The next important feature of the Swiss model of relations with the EU is integration to a significant extent of the EU law into the Swiss legislation. The economic features include an active participation of Switzerland in the European Single Market, and politisation of issues of economic cooperation by the European Union. A possible impact of suspending the negotiations on the institutional framework agreement in 2021 at the Swiss initiative is studied. The author concludes that the mentioned impact has been so far quite small, as the relations are progressively developing. It can be explained by the theory of economic interdependence of R. Keohane. The scientific significance of the work lies in a small ex- tent of investigation of the topic of the Swiss model of relations with the EU, as well as the study of the impact of long-term factors on the EU relations with third states. The chosen methods are con- tent analysis and synthesis

Anthropic principle and "observer of neoclassical type" in contemporary social theory

    Get PDF
In situation of formation of contemporary neoclassical philosophy the problem of anthropic principle and observer of modern type becomes actual. The world philosophy made three major attempts to "turn to a man". In classical period of world view it was made in form of such position as "anthropocentrism"; in neoclassical period - in form of "anthropological approach"; today, in forming neoclassical world view - in form of "anthropic principle". Differently from previous turns to a man, the "anthropical principle" detects a principally new "reasons" and new proportion between the universe and a man. First, between the universe as open system (synergetics). Second, between the universe and presence in it of such eternally existing phenomenon as life and not of epiphenomenon of a man-anthropos, therefore, other observer - observer of neoclassical type too. In the article is explicated other determinacy, nature of neoclassical situation and such neoclassical "world-man" proportion and not object-subject proportion, as previously. The situation of non-uniformity, but inevitable co-evolutionary co-equality between man and nature, between existence of observer of other neoclassical type and observed properties of the universe, neoclassic specifics of which is still should be researched, is grounded

Third Level Trigger for the Fluorescence Telescopes of the Pierre Auger Observatory

The trigger system for the Auger fluorescence telescopes is implemented in hard- and software for an efficient selection of fluorescence light tracks induced by high-energy extensive air showers. The algorithm of the third stage uses the multiplicity signal of the hardware for fast rejection of lightning events with above 99% efficiency. In a second step direct muon hits in the camera and random triggers are rejected by analyzing the space-time correlation of the pixels. The trigger algorithm was tested with measured and simulated showers and implemented in the electronics of the fluorescence telescopes. A comparison to a prototype trigger without multiplicity shows the superiority of this approach, e.g. the false rejection rate is a factor 10 lower.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, to be published in NIM A; 1 typo correcte

Antikinetoplastid SAR study in 3-nitroimidazopyridine series:identification of a novel non-genotoxic and potent anti-T. b. brucei hit-compound with improved pharmacokinetic properties.

International audienceTo study the antikinetoplastid 3-nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine pharmacophore, a structure-activity relationship study was conducted through the synthesis of 26 original derivatives and their in vitro evaluation on both Leishmania spp and Trypanosoma brucei brucei. This SAR study showed that the antitrypanosomal pharmacophore was less restrictive than the antileishmanial one and highlighted positions 2, 6 and 8 of the imidazopyridine ring as key modulation points. None of the synthesized compounds allowed improvement in antileishmanial activity, compared to previous hit molecules in the series. Nevertheless, compound 8, the best antitrypanosomal molecule in this series (EC50 = 17 nM, SI = 2650 & E° = −0.6 V), was not only more active than all reference drugs and previous hit molecules in the series but also displayed improved aqueous solubility and better in vitro pharmacokinetic characteristics: good microsomal stability (T1/2 > 40 min), moderate albumin binding (77%) and moderate permeability across the blood brain barrier according to a PAMPA assay. Moreover, both micronucleus and comet assays showed that nitroaromatic molecule 8 was not genotoxic in vitro. It was evidenced that bioactivation of molecule 8 was operated by T. b. brucei type 1 nitroreductase, in the same manner as fexinidazole. Finally, a mouse pharmacokinetic study showed that 8 displayed good systemic exposure after both single and repeated oral administrations at 100 mg/kg (NOAEL) and satisfying plasmatic half-life (T1/2 = 7.7 h). Thus, molecule 8 appears as a good candidate for initiating a hit to lead drug discovery program
