Foldables as a resource for vocabulary teaching

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research is to know about one of the resources to improve English vocabulary in students through the use of three-dimensional graphic organizers such as Foldables. Foldables are a good way to retain in students’ brains new words, and this is essential for students to communicate in written, and oral form. It was a bibliographic methodology because the information was found from different repositories around the world. I conclude that Foldables graphic organizers help students to remember vocabulary studied because it is a visual and kinesthetic activity and students usually enjoy having to manipulate, create material and drawing or pasting pictures. The uses of Foldables help students to develop their creativity by making different foldable forms and they have the opportunity to experiment with real situations when they use vocabulary provided with sentences, definitions and images. Furthermore, it involves students in an effective way to learn due to the fact that Foldables permit elicit students ‘previous knowledge, confirm knowledge and receive new learning

CAD-CAM system in dental implants: a systematic review

    Get PDF
Introduction: In the scenario of dental implant procedures, the intraoral scanner and milling unit are used to manufacture a computer-aided design and a computer-aided surgical and radiographic guide. In this sense, the use of CAD-CAM systems is highlighted in the processes of a prosthesis and dental implants, promoting the fabrication of prostheses based on a state-of-the-art three-dimensional system. Objective: Conduct a systematic review of the main considerations of the CAD-CAM system for the development of prostheses and dental implants. Methods: The present study was followed by a systematic literature review model - PRISMA rules. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument. The risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: The use of digital tools for the automated fabrication of implant parts (CAD-CAM) is an optimizing reality in Dentistry. CAD-CAM enables high-quality, standardized, accurate, and detail-perfect prosthetic restorations. The use of metallic implants in the morse cone system in association with zirconia abutments guarantees a final product with mechanical resistance, biocompatibility, and esthetics

EatingBarna: recomanador de restaurants a la ciutat de Barcelona

Treballs Finals de Grau d'Enginyeria Informàtica, Facultat de Matemàtiques, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2023, Director: Petia Radeva[en] Recommendation systems are present in many of the mobile applications we use on a daily basis. Companies like Amazon, Netflix or Spotify use these algorithms to improve the user experience in their products. This is a benefit but when there is an excess of content the recommendation system can be useless. We will focus on transforming a website about restaurants in Barcelona into a mobile application that recommends restaurants adapted to the user’s profile, combining a first human filter and a recommendation system to mitigate content overdose

Canine Hepacivirus NS3 Serine Protease Can Cleave the Human Adaptor Proteins MAVS and TRIF

Canine hepacivirus (CHV) was recently identified in domestic dogs and horses. The finding that CHV is genetically the virus most closely related to hepatitis C virus (HCV) has raised the question of whether HCV might have evolved as the result of close contact between dogs and/or horses and humans. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the NS3/4A serine protease of CHV specifically cleaves human mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS) and Toll-IL-1 receptor domain-containing adaptor inducing interferon-beta (TRIF). The proteolytic activity of CHV NS3/4A was evaluated using a bacteriophage lambda genetic screen. Human MAVS- and TRIF-specific cleavage sites were engineered into the lambda cI repressor. Upon infection of Escherichia coli cells coexpressing these repressors and a CHV NS3/4A construct, lambda phage replicated up to 2000-fold more efficiently than in cells expressing a CHV protease variant carrying the inactivating substitution S139A. Comparable results were obtained when several HCV NS3/4A constructs of genotype 1b were assayed. This indicates that CHV can disrupt the human innate antiviral defense signaling pathway and suggests a possible evolutionary relationship between CHV and HCV

CpG and UpA dinucleotides in both coding and non-coding regions of echovirus 7 inhibit replication initiation post-entry

Funding: Wellcome (WT103767MA) Peter Simmonds. Most vertebrate and plant RNA and small DNA viruses suppress genomic CpG and UpA dinucleotide frequencies, apparently mimicking host mRNA composition. Artificially increasing CpG/UpA dinucleotides attenuates viruses through an entirely unknown mechanism. Using the echovirus 7 (E7) model in several cell types, we show that the restriction in E7 replication in mutants with increased CpG/UpA dinucleotides occurred immediately after viral entry, with incoming virions failing to form replication complexes. Sequences of CpG/UpA-high virus stocks showed no evidence of increased mutational errors that would render them replication defective, these viral RNAs were not differentially sequestered in cytoplasmic stress granules nor did they induce a systemic antiviral state. Importantly, restriction was not mediated through effects on translation efficiency since replicons with high CpG/UpA sequences inserted into a non-coding region were similarly replication defective. Host-cells thus possess intrinsic defence pathways that prevent replication of viruses with increased CpG/UpA frequencies independently of codon usage.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

RNA virus attenuation by codon pair deoptimisation is an artefact of increases in CpG/UpA dinucleotide frequencies

    Get PDF
Mutating RNA virus genomes to alter codon pair (CP) frequencies and reduce translation efficiency has been advocated as a method to generate safe, attenuated virus vaccines. However, selection for disfavoured CPs leads to unintended increases in CpG and UpA dinucleotide frequencies that also attenuate replication. We designed and phenotypically characterised mutants of the picornavirus, echovirus 7, in which these parameters were independently varied to determine which most influenced virus replication. CpG and UpA dinucleotide frequencies primarily influenced virus replication ability while no fitness differences were observed between mutants with different CP usage where dinucleotide frequencies were kept constant. Contrastingly, translation efficiency was unaffected by either CP usage or dinucleotide frequencies. This mechanistic insight is critical for future rational design of live virus vaccines and their safety evaluation; attenuation is mediated through enhanced innate immune responses to viruses with elevated CpG/UpA dinucleotide frequencies rather the viruses themselves being intrinsically defective
