as implementar.

Breastfeeding is a practice of the highest importance, with repercussions on the
health of the child, of the mother, necessarily of the society and thus with an obvious
environmental and economic impact. There are multiple factors that influence its
implementation, including the practices of nurses including the promotion, protection and
support to women from the beginning of pregnancy.
The main goals of this study are to identify the practices of nurses regarding
breastfeeding promotion, contributing to the increase of scientific evidence in this area and
also to review the practices, aiming to find new and more effective ways to implement them.
A non-experimental research based on quantitative and descriptive analyses was
preformed; using a non-probabilistic sample of convenience of 76 nurses was used. They are
working in Aveiro in: Pediatric, NICU, Emergency Obstetric and Pediatric CHBV. A
questionnaire with a sample characterization and the identification of variables that influence
the practices of breastfeeding promotion, was used considering four dimensions:
encouragement, promotion, protection, support and trust-communication between mother
and nurse.
The results show that the most representative age is between 20-30 years (39.5%),
with total service time between 0-10 years (53.3%). The majority of the professionals are
graduated (56.6%) and trained as breastfeeding counselors (40.7%), as promoters (35.5%)
and present good practices (14.5%).
There is statistical evidence that attest that age (≥ 51anos) and service time (≥ 21
years) influence the degree of protection\support (p <0.05). The nurses (with 0-10years)
invest more on the promotion of breastfeeding (p = 0.047). The workplace influences this
practice (p = 0.041), having the nurses of Pediatrics\NICU higher averages in all the skills.
The training as a counselor has significant influence on the dimension “Promotion of
breastfeeding” (p <0.05). Most of the nurses are very motivated (92.1%). We verified that the
motivation influence practices in dimensions “promotion breastfeeding” and
“protection\support breastfeeding” (p <0.05).
The results point to the possibility of improving practices after implementation of
continuous training programs, analyzing the performances on team and implementing
strategies for uniformization of excellent performances.

Estatística no ensino básico e secundário
crítica a alguns materiais disponíveis, nomeadamente manuais escolares atuais, onde o estudo
Do
OF THE USE OF LOKIVETMAB (CYTOPOINT) IN CANINE ATOPIC DERMATITIS - Canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) is an extremely prevalent disease, with a complex
pathogenesis that can lead to diverse clinical manifestations and different response to the
available therapeutic options. Pruritus is the most common clinical sign of this condition,
significantly diminishing the animals’ and their owners’ quality of life. IL-31 is a cytokine with
an important role in the pathogenesis of cAD, particularly in inducing pruritus. Lokivetmab is a
caninized monoclonal antibody against IL-31, with its usage recommended for the treatment
of the clinical manifestations of cAD.
This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of lokivetmab in the treatment of cAD and the safety
of its usage. The 18 animals enrolled were subjected to two injections of lokivetmab, within a
four-week interval. The level of pruritus was continuously assessed (by the animals’ owners
using a validated visual scale) and skin lesions (classified by veterinary clinicians using
CADESI-4) over a period of two months. The safety of lokivetmab was investigated comparing
the blood test results performed at the beginning and ending of the treatment and by evaluating
adverse effects.
A significant clinical improvement was defined as a 50% reduction of both pruritus and the
CADESI-4 values. The treatment with lokivetmab lead to the improvement of the level of
pruritus by 76.47% of the sample’s dogs. Its role in diminishing the pruritus could be observed
after 24 h and continued throughout at least four weeks in most animals. The significant clinical
improvement of the CADESI-4 levels was registered in 77.78% of the animals. After two weeks
of treatment, the effect of lokivetmab was already evident in the reduction of CADESI-4 values,
that were kept low until the end of the two-month period. Even though a reduction of at least
50% in the whole sample was not registered for both the pruritus level and the CADESI-4, a
reduction of values was observed in all but one dog in each evaluation. However, these two
animals maintained low levels throughout the two months. No significant clinical alterations
were noticed in the blood tests, and only three cases of vomiting were registered, one of them
followed by diarrhea, which resolved without clinical intervention.
The statistically significant reductions that were observed, of both the level of pruritus and the
value of the CADESI-4 throughout the two months, prove lokivetmab’s efficacy when treating
this condition. At the same time, the absence of side effects with significant clinical importance,
highlight the safety of this therapeutic option and promote trust in its use. Therefore, lokivetmab
presents itself as an excellent therapeutic option due to its high efficacy and safety.N/

Neonatal Cholestasis Over Time: Changes in Epidemiology and Outcome in a Cohort of 154 Patients from a Portuguese Tertiary Center
Introduction: In the last two decades there have been advances in the diagnosis and management of neonatal cholestasis, which may have changed its epidemiology, diagnostic accuracy, outcomes, and survival. Our goal was to characterize these changes over time in our setting. Methods: Retrospective cohort study in a tertiary center, enrolling patients born between January 1985 and October 2019. The cohort was divided into two periods, before (A; n = 67) and after (B; n = 87) the year 2000; and in two groups, according to patient's outcome (favorable, unfavorable). Overall survival and survival with and without orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) were evaluated in the two periods (A and B) and in different subgroups of underlying entities. Results: We found that the age of cholestasis recognition decreased significantly from period A to period B [median 43 days and 22 days, respectively, (p < 0.001)]; the changes in epidemiology were relevant, with a significant decrease in alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (p < 0.001) and an increase in transient cholestasis (p = 0.004). A next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel available since mid-2017 was applied to 13 patients with contributory results in 7, but, so far, only in 2 patients led to conclusive diagnosis of underlying entities. The number of cases of idiopathic cholestasis did not vary significantly. Over time there was no significant change in the outcome (p = 0.116). Overall survival and survival without OLT had no significant improvement during the period of observation (in periods A and B, 86 vs. 88%, and 85 vs. 87%, respectively). However, in period B, with OLT we achieved the goal of 100% of survival rate. Conclusions: Our data suggest that transient cholestasis became a very important subset of neonatal cholestasis, requiring specific guidance. The NGS panels can provide important inputs on disease diagnosis but, if applied without strict criteria and expertise, they can open a Pandora's box due to misinterpretation. Despite all the advances in accurate diagnosis and timely management-including early recognition of cholestasis-the improvement in patient outcomes and survival were still not significant. This work was supported by Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit (UCIBIO), which was financed by national funds from FCT/MCTES (UID/MULTI/04378/2019)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Natural approaches for neurological disorders: The neuroprotective potential of Codium tomentosum
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, and is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Although not completely understood, several abnormal cellular events are known to be related with PD progression, such as oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective e ects of Codium tomentosum enriched fractions in a neurotoxicity model mediated by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) on SH-SY5Y human cells, and the disclosure of their mechanisms of action. Additionally, a preliminary chemical screening of the most promising bioactive fractions of C. tomentosum was carried out by GC-MS analysis. Among the tested fractions, four samples exhibited the capacity to revert the neurotoxicity induced by 6-OHDA to values higher or similar to the vitamin E (90.11 +- 3.74% of viable cells). The neuroprotective e ects were mediated by the mitigation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, mitochondrial dysfunctions and DNA damage, together with the reduction of Caspase-3 activity. Compounds
belonging to different chemical classes, such as terpenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids, aldehydes, esters,
ketones, saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons were tentatively identified by GC-MS. The results
show that C. tomentosum is a relevant source of neuroprotective agents, with particular interest for
preventive therapeutics.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
SOLO MOTHERHOOD AS A RISK EXPERIENCE IN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC-ANALYSIS IN LIGHT OF THE MIRTES-MIGUEL CASE
Método: A metodologia empregada nesta pesquisa é a Revisão Bibliográfica Integrativa. Objective: To understand, in the light of the Mirtes-Miguel case, the experience of solo motherhood in the Pandemic context of COVID-19, under the spectrum of the dimensions of gender, race, class and Intersectionalities. Methods: The methodology used in this research is the Integrative Bibliographical Review. This is a descriptive-exploratory study, of qualitative approach, with the integration of bibliographic and documental sources (reports published between the months of June 2020 and March 2021). The analysis was based on the references of Critical Social Psychology, in dialogue with the field of Collective Health and Gender, Race and Class studies. Results: According to the authors, structuring systems responsible for inequalities, constructed on the basis of sexism, racism and classism, largely determine the experience of solo motherhood, because this context is frequent in the reality of many poor black women. Moreover, the capitalist mode of production also collaborates to the naturalization and maintenance of these inequalities, since it depends on the exploitation of the labor force of the less favored. In the analysis of the Mirtes-Miguel case, these aspects sharpened to the point of fatality, since the pandemic context of COVID-19 exacerbated Mirtes' labor exploitation, to the detriment of protecting herself and her child. Conclusion: According to the results of the analyses, the pandemic of COVID-19 causes changes in several areas, reverberating in the worsening of the set of vulnerabilities to which solo mothers are exposed in today's social organization. The Mirtes-Miguel case is representative of this reality
