ejecutar hormigones de limpieza y en masa con comportamientos adecuados.[Abstract] In this work the performance of mussel shell as aggregate in plain concrete has been studied. The
mussel shell used came from the cannery industry, which produces more than 1 million tonnes of
shell by-product a year worldwide. The mussel shell has been heat-treated at 135 °C for 30 minutes
and then crushed and sieved into sand and gravel. The new aggregates have been studied by X-ray
diffraction (XRD), TGA and SEM microscopy.
Then two different conventional concretes were designed, a non-structural concrete (NSC) and a
plain structural concrete (SC). In both of them the natural aggregates (sand, gravel, and both sand
and gravel) were replaced with mussel shell aggregates at different percentages. All concretes were
characterized in fresh and hardened states (microstructure, workable life progression, workability,
compressive and splitting strength, longitudinal modulus of elasticity, weight loss and water
permeability).
The results lead to establishing that with this treatment, mussel shell replacement should be limited
to 25% of fine or coarse aggregates, or 12.5% of both fine and coarse aggregates. With these
percentages the NSC and the SC will display a correct behaviour.Traballo fin de grao (UDC.EUAT). Arquitectura técnica. Curso 2015/2016
There is an important therapeutic need in certain Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemias (AML) within Myeloid Neoplasms. Promising therapies are being developed for myeloid malignancies based on the adaptive immune system but also a key aproach targeting the innate immune system seems to be encouraging: the dominant macrophage checkpoint CD47 through its interaction with SIRPα. CD47 is a “do not eat me” signal, overexpressed in tumoral cells of numerous cancers (including MDS and AML), which contributes to tumor evasion of phagocytosis by macrophages and is associated with poor outcomes. Blockade of CD47 with a new humanized antibody called Magrolimab leads to engulfment of leukemic cells and therapeutic elimination, as demonstrated pre-clinical data. This work is intended as an updated review of avalaible clinical data about Magrolimab for the treatment of MDS or AML malignancies. Although Magrolimab use in monotherapy for MDS and AML has not been so effective, combinations with another agents such Azacitidine or Venetoclax seems to demonstrate a significative benefit in responses rates and overall survival for those patients with a dismal prognosis, including with TP53 mutations
The following essay shows an educational analysis based on two values: Responsibility and Creativity, of students of 2nd semester in Oral Rehabilitation at CIEO Center. Because of unlimited marketing of esthetic dental services, it is necessary to emphasize such values in the learning processes of the students. Through the analysis of the information gathered, it was concluded that promoting the creation of academic spaces that foster these values, will permit the students to be capable of building more solid criteria to assume a dental practice based not only upon cognitive aspects, but axiological too, in personal and social levels

Mussel shell mortars durability: Study of aggregate replacement limit
[Abstract]: The knowledge acquired through previous experimental phases with coating mortars with mussel shell aggregates led to conclude that irregular, flaky and hydrophobic particles of the mussel shell and the organic matter content introduce entrapped air and entrained air in the mixes. This phenomenon causes different and opposite effects on the main properties of mortars, which are in some way positive and negative (for durability), consequently, their durability cannot be easily predicted. The present work pretends to analyse the results of different durability tests, such as water vapour permeability, adhesive strength, and weathering cycles to recommend the maximum percentage of mussel shell sand used in coating mortars that guarantee the required lifespan.
After an in-depth literature review, it can be said that it is not easy to predict the durability of mortars using mussel shell aggregates. This question has been hardly analysed in the existing literature and the maximum substitution percentage of conventional aggregate that can be replaced is not clear. This work aims to answer this issue by analysing different properties: water vapour permeability, adhesive strength, and weathering cycles. Mussel shell content improves the water vapour permeability of both air lime and cement mortars but worsens the adhesive strength and weathering cycle behaviour. For most applications, 25 % of mussel shell aggregate can be employed, but for some applications, 50 % or even 75 % of mussel shell aggregate is feasible and will avoid the undesirable landfilling of this waste. This work has been developed within the framework of the project "Valorización de las conchas de bivalvos gallegos en el ámbito de la construcción" (Valorisation of Galician bivalve shell in the construction sector; Code 00064742/ITC-20133094), funded by CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico e Industrial) under the FEDER-Innterconecta Program, and co-financed with European Union ERDF funds
