Vector-valued Littlewood-Paley-Stein theory for semigroups

We develop a generalized Littlewood-Paley theory for semigroups acting on $L^p$-spaces of functions with values in uniformly convex or smooth Banach spaces. We characterize, in the vector-valued setting, the validity of the one-sided inequalities concerning the generalized Littlewood-Paley-Stein $g$-function associated with a subordinated Poisson symmetric diffusion semigroup by the martingale cotype and type properties of the underlying Banach space. We show that in the case of the usual Poisson semigroup and the Poisson semigroup subordinated to the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup on ${\mathbb R}^n$, this general theory becomes more satisfactory (and easier to be handled) in virtue of the theory of vector-valued Calder\'on-Zygmund singular integral operators.Comment: To appear in Adv. Computing abuse related damages in the case of new entry: An illustration for the Directory Enquiry Services market

A number of European countries, among which the UK and Spain, have opened up their Directory Enquiry Services (DQs, or 118AB) market to competition. We analyse the Spanish case, where both local and foreign firms challenged the incumbent as of April 2003. We argue that the incumbent had the ability to abuse its dominant position, and that it was a perfectly rational strategy. In short,the incumbent raised its rivals' costs directly by providing an inferior quality version of the (essential) input, namely the incumbent's subscribers' database. We illustrate how it is possible to quantify the effect of abuse in situation were the entrant has no previous history in the market. To do this, we use the UK experience to construct the relevant counterfactual, that is the "but for abuse" scenario. After controlling for relative prices and advertising intensity, we find that one of the foreign entrants achieved a Spanish market share of only half of what it would have been in the absence of abuse.competition policy, abuse of dominance, telecommunications

This paper examines manuscript Salm. 74 (Thucydides) in codicological, historical and textual perspective. Attention is paid to its itinerary from Constantinople (where it is likely to have been written at the end of 14th century) to Spain (where it arrived after traveling through the Italy of humanism).Se analiza desde un punto de vista codicológico, histórico y crítico-textual el manuscrito de Salamanca Salm. 74 (Tucídides) y se examina su itinerario desde Constantinopla, donde probablemente fue escrito a fi nales del s. XIV, hasta España, a donde llegó pasando por la Italia humanista del s. XV

Entre filólogos comnenos y copistas paleólogos: Opiano y Eurípides en el salmanticensis 31 (con una carta al patriarca de Constantinopla)

Se examina desde un punto de vista paleográfico, codicológico, textual e histórico-cultural el Salmanticensis 31, con obras de Opiano y Eurípides. En especial se tiene en cuenta su parentesco stemmático con el Laur. Plut. 31, 3, la naturaleza de su aparato exegético relacionado probablemente co la labor del filólogo Juan Tzetzes y la figura del copista de la primera mitad del s. XIV Juan Caliandres. Se transcribe como apéndice una carta inédita dirigida al Patriarca de ConstantinoplaSalmanticensis 31, which contains works by Oppian and Euripides, is examined in this paper from the palaeographic, the textual and the historic-cultural standpoints. El 2017, Catalunya i les Illes Balears van ser convidades a celebrar la 54 edició de la Fira del Llibre per a Infants i Joves de Bolonya. El desenlace de los cuentos como ejemplo de las funciones de la literatura infantil y juvenil

Se esquematizan en tres las funciones que cumple la literatura infantil en el contexto sociocultural actual: el aprendizaje del lenguaje y de las formas literarias básicas sobre las que se sustentan y desarrollan las competencias interpretativas de los individuos a lo largo de su educación literaria; la incorporación de los niños al imaginario de su colectividad, y la socialización de las nuevas generaciones en los valores y conductas de su cultura. Para cumplir estas funciones, la literatura infantil se relaciona con las características del contexto en el que se produce. Para dar cuenta de la interdependencia entre los valores educativos y las formas artísticas adoptadas en cada contexto se utiliza aquí como ejemplo el análisis de los finales de los cuentos en las narraciones actuales.This article deals with three different functions of children's literature in present-day social contexts. Firstly, language learning and the basic literary forms through which individuals develop their interpretative skills during their education; secondly, the children's incorporation into the imaginary world of those around them; and thirdly, the socialization of new generations in the values and behaviours of their culture. In order to achieve these functions, children's literature interacts with its context. To illustrate this, I focus on the analysis of the endings of contemporary short stories in order to show the interdependence between the educational values and the art form adopted in each context
