C.Hypatia of Alexandria personifies the defense of the late paganism. About her life, her work at the head of the school of philosophy, her political influence and the circumstances of her death has been written very much, interweaving reality and legend, since the Antiquity. Thanks to Alejandro Amenábar's cinematographic version (Ágora, 2009), the figure of Hypatia acquired special projection among people. In this article, we propose to study the Hypatia's image offered by Amenábar, bearing in mind testimonies in ancient Greek as Synesius of Cyrene, or Socrates Scholasticus, and others. Likewise, we will analyze the historical setting of the movie, stablishing its relationship with the reality of Alexandria in the 4th-5th centuries A. D

I propose here an interpretation of POxy. 4811 from a comic perspective. It corresponds to an intermediate atmosphere between a serious and a comic register. It was already known in Greek Literature: τὸ ϲπουδαιογέλοιον. Τhis fragment links with an episode of the Vita Aesopi where the protagonist defies in intelligence his master and Panionís could be a courtesan, who now is a slave or has been slave in the past

One of the question which has aroused great interest amongs Hellenists over the last decades, surrounding which there ¡s extensive bibliography, is the Greeks' attitude to other peoples they termed barbarians. Even though we risk simplifying we could sum up by stating that the Greeks

In order to cope with uncertainties present in the renewable energy generation, as well as in the demand consumer, we propose in this paper the formulation and comparison of three robust model predictive control techniques, i. i. e., multi-scenario, tree-based, and chance-constrained model predictive control, which are applied to a nonlinear plant-replacement model that corresponds to a real laboratory-scale plant located in the facilities of the University of Seville. Results show the effectiveness of these three techniques considering the stochastic nature, proper of these systems

Background: Knowing the quality of life of professionals is important because it is related to job performance, better results, and greater productivity, which results in better patient care. Objective: To know the Professional Quality of Life perceived by the nurses at the Geriatric Hospital of Toledo (Spain). Method: A descriptive cross-section study was employed to measure the Professional Quality of Life of all healthcare nurses (69 in total) at the Geriatric Hospital of Toledo. The questionnaire used as a measuring instrument was the Professional Quality of Life - 35. The data obtained was analyzed by means of: descriptive statistics, single-factor ANOVA variance analysis, T Student tests, and simple and multiple regression analysis. The study was approved by both the research commission and the ethics commission at the Hospital Complex of Toledo. Participation in the study on behalf of the nursing staff was voluntary. Results: In total, 45 responses were obtained (65.2%). The overall mean score measured the perceived Professional Quality of Life to be low. In relation to the three dimensions evaluated in the study, the highest average found was in “intrinsic motivation,” followed by “workload”, and then “management support.” In the multivariate analysis, “management support” was shown as the most influential factor in the Professional Quality of Life with a 23% influence (P<0.001), followed by workload with 9% (P = 0.01). Conclusions: The professionals at the participating center perceive their workplace as having an elevated degree of responsibility, a large quantity of work, a high occurrence of rushes and fatigue, and all this with little support on behalf of management. Promotions are scarce or the policies for receiving a promotion are inadequate. The perception of Professional Quality of Life in nursing is low. The obtained results indicate a need for an organizing cultural change based on participation, motivation, and increased management support
