Emotional Intelligence, age and Work Well-being: an empirical study.

According to Goleman’s best seller “Emotional Intelligence”, (1996) the most important aptitude to obtain the best performance of the employees is the Emotional Intelligence. A deficiency of emotional competence skills is related to burnout. Drawing on emotional intelligence findings, this study is focused on the research gap in the companies with regard to emotional intelligence, work well-being and age and the relationship between this variables. Correlational and descriptive analyses of 137 employees (112 men and 25 women) of the automotive and chemical industry revealed that the level of Emotional Intelligence and the level of Work Well-being correlate positively. Specifically, Emotional Perception (emotional intelligence variable) correlates positively with vigor, dedication and absorption (engagement variable), and correlates negatively with cynism (burnout variable). Efficacy and exhaustion are not significantly related with emotional intelligence. Additionally, there is a positive relathionship between age and emotional intelligence, and between age and work well-being too. According to the results, age is related with more engagement and burnout. Furthermore, age is related with more emotional intelligence. We haven’t found a stadistical significant relationship between age and emotional intelligence and between work- well being and age.Las organizaciones se enfrentan cada vez con mayor frecuencia a un mercado laboral más competente. De acuerdo con el best seller de Goleman “Inteligencia Emocional”, (1996) la aptitud más importante para obtener el mejor rendimiento de los empleados es la Inteligencia Emocional. Una deficiencia en las habilidades de competencia emocional está relacionada con el burnout. Basándonos en los descubrimientos sobre Inteligencia Emocional, este estudio se centra en la falta de investigación respecto a la inteligencia emocional, el bienestar laboral y la edad de los empleados, y la relación existente entre estas variables. Mediante análisis correlacionales y descriptivos a 137 empleados (112 hombres y 25 mujeres) de la industría química y automovilística revelaron que el nivel de Inteligencia Emocional correlaciona positivamente con el nivel de Bienestar Laboral. Específicamente, la Percepción Emocional (variable de Inteligencia Emocional) correlaciona positivamente con el vigor, la dedicación y la absorción (variables de engagement), y correlaciona negativamente con el cinismo (variable de burnout). No existe una relación estadísticamente significativa entre la inteligencia emocional y la eficacia y el agotamiento. Además, existe una relación positiva entre la edad y la inteligencia emocional, y también entre el bienestar laboral y la edad. De acuerdo con los resultados, la edad está relacionada con más engagement y burnout. Por otro lado, esta variable también se relaciona con una mayor inteligencia emocional. Finalmente, no se ha comprobado una relación estadísticamente significativa entre la edad y la inteligencia emocional, y entre el bienestar laboral y la edad de los empleados

Variation of seed characteristic from natural and artificial selection in the genus Papaver

Papaveraceae is a mediterranean plant family with an important scientific, commercial and ethnobotanical interest. Includes wild species, which are distributed throughout the Spanish territory, as Papaver rhoeas, P. dubium, P. bracteatum, P. hybridum and the wild type of P. somniferum, which are representatives of the natural selection. The species with the greatest commercial interest is P. somniferum, whose management through improvement lines reflects the most profitable plant characteristics obtained by artificial selection: fast and vigorous growth, multiple flowers and big size capsules (1), traits that increase the production of morphine, codeine and thebaine among others opiates derived from the capsule leachate. Occasionally, some breeding lines of P. somniferum shown wild features, such as capsule dehiscence or extended germination time. Papaver becomes, thereby, an interesting plant genus to analyze the differential evolution experienced through natural and artificial selection. In this regard, previous studies reported that seed surface patter can be used in taxonomic classification of Papaveraceae family members (2). The main goal of this project was to characterize several seed traits variation among wild and cultivated samples. Seed size and shape was characterized using images analysis from macro-photography and the software ImageJ. Seed color, defined in the L, a*, b* color space, was recorded with an automatic colorimeter. Electron scanning microscopy (SEM) micrographs were used to study seed surface crosslinked patterns. Finally, confocal scanning microscopy allowed a preliminary approach to the internal seed tissue structure. The results shown that wild species seeds have deeper color than P. somniferum breeding lines but even among those it is possible to distinguish at least four main differentiated groups by color. Likewise, even if all breeded P. somniferum samples had larger seeds than wild species, probably as the results of artificial selection, there were clear variation among them. We discuss if the variations in these seed characteristics was the unintended result of the artificial trait breeding selection with agronomic interest. Static and Dynamic Poverty in Spain, 1993-2000

We focus on the statics and dynamics of poverty in Spain using data from the first eight waves of the European Community Household Panel from 1994 to 2001, a period not sufficiently covered by recent literature. The results confirm the pattern of poverty changes noted by other authors for the early nineteen-nineties. After this period poverty reduces slightly in incidence and intensity, but 2000 is the turning point. Caminos que se consolidan en el desarrollo profesional docente: ¿están presentes en España?

The aim of this article is twofold. First, we present an analysis of the main features of the teacher professional development (PD) models and programs currently considered of highest quality. This analysis is supported by the articles presented in the present monograph, and it also considers other studies that complement these perspectives. We show that axes of teacher change deal with career-long development, reflection in school-based communities of practice, and focus on students’ voices. In addition, we highlight the need for coherence between teacher policies and more global policies aimed at enhancing the quality of education. The second objective is to assess the situation of teacher PD within the Spanish education system, using the identified axes of teacher change as an analytic framework. The comparison reveals important limitations from the points of view of both the specific PD activities offered to teachers and underlying teacher PD model.RESUMEN: El artículo tiene un doble objetivo. Por una parte, presentar un análisis de los principales rasgos que caracterizan los modelos y programas de Desarrollo Profesional Docente (DPD) considerados de mayor calidad hoy día. Este análisis se apoya en los artículos presentados en el monográfico, pero recoge también otros trabajos que complementan dicha perspectiva. Se constata que los ejes del cambio se articulan en torno al desarrollo a lo largo toda la carrera, la reflexión en comunidades de práctica que toman la escuela como unidad de referencia, y donde la voz de los alumnos va ganando presencia. Se destaca asimismo la necesidad de dar coherencia a las políticas de profesorado en el marco de las políticas globales de mejora de la calidad. El segundo objetivo consiste en valorar la situación del DPD en el sistema educativo español, tomando como criterio los ejes de análisis planteados. L'horta marginal : el cas de Ripollet (Vallès Occidental)

Le phenomène des potagers marginaux qui se développe aux alentours de la grande ville, sur des terrains expropriés ou aux bords ou dans le lit d'une rivière, apparut d'une façon minoritaire en 1971 et s'intensifia a partir de 1975 avec la crise industrielle de notre pays. Ces potagers marginaux ont beaucoup d'incidence sur l'activité économique et l'emploi du temps libre d'un nombre considérable de personnes. Ils sont en même temps le résultat du développement économique de la Catalogne, qui a attiré un grand nombre d'immigrés. La crise provoca la perte de nombreux emplois, la réduction d'investissements et, à cause de ça, la population en situation précaire a cherché des alternatives pour survivre.The phenomenon of the marginal kitchen gardens that develops in the suburbs of big cities, on expropriated lands or in the river-beds, appeared -in a minoritary form- in 1971 and intensified from 1975 on, with the spread of the industrial crisis of the country. Those marginal kitchen gardens have a strong impact in the economic activity and the employment of free time of a great deal of the population. They are also the result of the economic development of Catalonia, which attracted an important bulk of immigrants.
