    Expressions for the g-Drazin inverse of additive perturbed elements in a Banach algebra

    AbstractWe study additive properties of the g-Drazin inverse in a Banach algebra A. In our development we derive a representation of the resolvent of a 2×2 matrix with entries in A, which is then used to find explicit expressions for the g-Drazin inverse of the sum a+b, under new conditions on a,b∈A. As an application of our results we obtain a representation for the Drazin inverse of a 2×2 complex block matrix in terms of the individual blocks, under certain conditions

    Classes of operators preserved by extensions or liftings

    A standard way to obtain extensions (resp. liftings) of operators is by making the so-called operations of push-out (resp. pull-back). In this paper we study the preservation of some classes of operators associated with an operator ideal Aunder push-out extensions or pull-back liftings. We show several examples of classical operator ideals whose associated classes are preserved, we prove that the preservation of those classes under push-out extension or pull-back lifting implies that the space ideal of Asatisfies the 3-space property, and we derive some results for Athat are useful in the study of commutative diagrams of operators.that of the three authors has been supported in part by MINECO (Spain), Project MTM2016-76958

    Evidence for early Pliocene and late Miocene transgressions in southern Patagonia (Argentina): 87Sr/86Sr ages of the pectinid "Chlamys" actinodes (Sowerby)

    Numerical ages based on 87Sr/86Sr dating of calcitic shells belonging to the pectinid "Chlamys" actinodes (Sowerby) document the only late Miocene (Tortonian) sea flooding event in the Austral Basin at Cabo Buentiempo (8.95±0.82Ma, 2 s.e.), and provide evidence of the first documented early Pliocene (Zanclean) transgression in Argentina recorded at Cañadón Darwin (5.15±0.18Ma, 2 s.e., Austral Basin) and at Terraces of Cerro Laciar (5.10±0.21Ma, 2 s.e.), southern San Jorge Basin). The sedimentary rocks deposited during the Tortonian are correlated with the youngest beds deposited by the "Entrerriense Sea" that covered northern Patagonia. The Zanclean marine episode is correlated with the long-term cycle represented in the Southern Hemisphere by the flooding events recorded in Cockburn and James Ross Islands (Antarctica) and in North-Central Chile.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

    Let X be a nonsingular complex projective variety that is acted on by a reductive group GG and such that Xss≠X(0)s≠∅X^{ss} \neq X_{(0)}^{s}\neq \emptyset. We give formulae for the Hodge--Poincar\'e series of the quotient X(0)s/GX_{(0)}^s/G. We use these computations to obtain the corresponding formulae for the Hodge--Poincar\'e polynomial of the moduli space of properly stable vector bundles when the rank and the degree are not coprime.     Moist and warm conditions in Eurasia during the last glacial of the Middle Pleistocene Transition

    The end of the Middle Pleistocene Transition (MPT, ~ 800-670 thousand years before present, ka) was characterised by the emergence of large glacial ice-sheets associated with anomalously warm North Atlantic sea surface temperatures enhancing moisture production. Still, the direction and intensity of moisture transport across Eurasia towards potential ice-sheets is poorly constrained. To reconstruct late MPT moisture production and dispersal, we combine records of upper ocean temperature and pollen-based Mediterranean forest cover, a tracer of westerlies and precipitation, from a subtropical drill-core collected off South-West Iberia, with records of East Asia summer monsoon (EASM) strength and West Pacific surface temperatures, and model simulations. Here we show that south-western European winter precipitation and EASM strength reached high levels during the Marine Isotope Stage 18 glacial. This anomalous situation was caused by nearly-continuous moisture supply from both oceans and its transport to higher latitudes through the westerlies, likely fuelling the accelerated expansion of northern hemisphere ice-sheets during the late MPT. © 2023, The Author(s).This research used samples collected during the Expedition no. 339 “Mediterranean Outflow“ of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP).     Analysis of CPTU data for the geotechnical characterization of intermediate sediments

    none4noDOI del volume: 10.1201/9780429505980The intermediate soil (e.g. silt, sandy silt, clayey silt) response at the standard cone penetration (CPT) velocity of 20 mm/s is generally partially drained, falling between that of sand and clay. As a result, a proper interpretation of CPT (or CPTU) in such mixed soils is not always straightforward. In order to properly analyse the in situ soil response and avoid incorrect estimates of soil parameters, the preliminary assessment of drainage conditions is essential. In this paper, changes in normalized CPTU measurements caused by changes in cone velocity are analysed. Penetration rate effects are assessed by means of No. 8 piezocone tests, with penetration rates ranging from about 0.9 to 61.7 mm/s. Tests were performed at a site located at the southern margin of the Po river valley (Northern Italy), where the subsoil mainly consists in a clayey silt deposit. Limitations on the applicability of some widely used empirical correlations, proposed for sands, are investigated and some preliminary results are shown.mixedGarcĂ­a MartĂ­nez, M.     A structural and biochemical model of processive chitin synthesis

    Chitin synthases (CHS) produce chitin, an essential component of the fungal cell wall. The molecular mechanism of processive chitin synthesis is not understood, limiting the discovery of new inhibitors of this enzyme class. We identified the bacterial glycosyltransferase NodC as an appropriate model system to study the general structure and reaction mechanism of CHS. A high throughput screening-compatible novel assay demonstrates that a known inhibitor of fungal CHS also inhibit NodC. A structural model of NodC, on the basis of the recently published BcsA cellulose synthase structure, enabled probing of the catalytic mechanism by mutagenesis, demonstrating the essential roles of the DD and QXXRW catalytic motifs. The NodC membrane topology was mapped, validating the structural model. Together, these approaches give insight into the CHS structure and mechanism and provide a platform for the discovery of inhibitors for this antifungal target

    Antecedentes La calidad de vida relacionada con la salud es un elemento importante en la valoraciĂłn integral del sobrepeso y la obesidad. Objetivo Evaluar el impacto de la obesidad y la ganancia de peso sobre la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud en la cohorte dinĂĄmica Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra. Materiales y mĂ©todos Los anĂĄlisis incluyeron a 10.033 participantes de la cohorte dinĂĄmica prospectiva del Proyecto Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra, con una tasa de respuesta de aproximadamente el 90%. La calidad de vida fue medida con la versiĂłn abreviada de la Encuesta de Salud (SF-36) (0: peor calidad de vida, 100: mejor calidad de vida). El anĂĄlisis estadĂ­stico se realizĂł con modelos lineales generalizados (media de cada dominio del SF-36 e IC al 95%). Una diferencia de 3 puntos fue considerada como clĂ­nicamente relevante. Resultados El anĂĄlisis del SF-36 mostrĂł que la funciĂłn fĂ­sica, la salud general y la variable fĂ­sica sumario fueron inferiores en las personas con sobrepeso y obesidad al inicio del estudio que en los individuos con normopeso. La poblaciĂłn a estudio con sobrepeso u obesidad sin cambios tras 2 años de seguimiento presentĂł peores puntuaciones en los dominios del SF-36 correspondientes a la funciĂłn fĂ­sica, dolor corporal, variable fĂ­sica sumario y salud general que los individuos que mantuvieron la categorĂ­a del normopeso segĂșn el IMC (kg/m2). Conclusiones La obesidad parece asociarse a un impacto negativo sobre la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud, que afecta mĂĄs significativamente al ĂĄrea fĂ­sica que a la psicosocial. Background: The health-related quality of life is an important element for the comprehensive assessment of overweight and obesity. Objective: To assess the impact of obesity and weight gain on the health-related quality of life of the dynamic cohort of the Follow-up Program of the University of Navarra. Material and methods: The analysis included 10, 033 participants of the prospective dynamic cohort of the Follow-up Project of the University of Navarra, with a response rate of approximately 90%. The quality of life was measured with the Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) (0, worst quality of life; 100, best quality of life). The statistical analysis was performed with generalized lineal models (mean of each SF-36 domain and 95% CI). A difference of 3 points was considered clinically relevant. Results: The SF-36 analysis showed that physical function, general health and the physical component summary were inferior in individuals with excess weight and obesity at the start of the study, compared with individuals with normal weight. The study population with unchanged excess weight or obesity after 2 years of follow-up presented lower scores on the SF-36 domains corresponding to physical function, body pain, physical component summary and general health than individuals who maintained the normal weight category according to BMI (kg/m2). Conclusions: Obesity appears to be associated with a negative impact on health-related quality of life, affecting the physical area more significantly than the psychosocial

    Cumulative climatic stressors strangles marine aquaculture: Ancillary effects of COVID 19 on Spanish mariculture

    Marine aquaculture takes advantage of marine ecosystem services to produce goods that can be relevant from a food security point of view. However, this activity is subject to multiple stressors as the ones exerted by global climate change. Local stressed conditions due to environmental drivers may be exacerbated by the COVID19 pandemic crisis. In this paper we analyze the pre-COVID-19 situation in two Spanish regions with the highest aquaculture production, Galicia and the Valencian Community. The incidence of storms, heat waves and mussel farming closure were analyzed, and surveys were used to define the perception of producers in terms of economic problems derived from COVID-19 and synergistic environmental concerns. Also the temporal trend of mussel production was analyzed. Spanish marine aquaculture has been intensively subjected to climatic stressors that made it more vulnerable to COVID-19, showing some weakness in terms of production as can be seen in mussel production and fresh consumption. Anyway, extensive aquaculture and aquaculture developed by Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) was reported as somewhat more resilient to the impact of COVID-19. In order to ensure the environmental and economic sustainability of marine aquaculture - under a future uncertain pandemic scenario – our outcomes underline the need for more resilient adaptation programs and recovery plans taking into account the climate change effects.M.C.M.’s research activity was supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under the Marie SkƂodowska-Curie Action (Grant agreement no. 835589, MIRROR Project)
