Inclusive J/Ï production at forward and backward rapidity in p-Pb collisions at âsNN=8.16 TeV
Inclusive J/psi production is studied in p-Pb interactions at a centre-of-mass
energy per nucleon-nucleon collision sqrt(s_NN) = 8.16TeV, using the ALICE detector at the
CERN LHC. The J/psi meson is reconstructed, via its decay to a muon pair, in the centre-of-mass
rapidity intervals 2.03 < ycms < 3.53 and -4.46 < ycms < -2.96, where positive
and negative ycms refer to the p-going and Pb-going direction, respectively. The transverse
momentum coverage is pT < 20 GeV/c. In this paper, ycms- and pT-differential cross
sections for inclusive J/psi production are presented, and the corresponding nuclear modification
factors RpPb are shown. Forward results show a suppression of the J/psi yield with
respect to pp collisions, concentrated in the region pT < 5 GeV/c. At backward rapidity
no significant suppression is observed. The results are compared to previous measurements
by ALICE in p-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 5.02TeV and to theoretical calculations. Finally,
the ratios RFB between forward- and backward-ycms RpPb values are shown and discussed

Energy dependence and fluctuations of anisotropic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at âsNN=5.02 and 2.76 TeV
Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients with two- and multi-particle cumulants
for inclusive charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 5.02 and 2.76TeV
are reported in the pseudorapidity range |eta|< 0.8 and transverse momentum 0.2 < pT <
50 GeV/c. The full data sample collected by the ALICE detector in 2015 (2010), corresponding
to an integrated luminosity of 12.7 (2.0) ub^-1 in the centrality range 0-80%,
is analysed. Flow coefficients up to the sixth flow harmonic (v6) are reported and a detailed
comparison among results at the two energies is carried out. The pT dependence
of anisotropic flow coefficients and its evolution with respect to centrality and harmonic
number n are investigated. An approximate power-law scaling of the form vn(pT) ~ pT^(n/3)
is observed for all flow harmonics at low pT (0.2 < pT < 3 GeV/c). At the same time, the
ratios vn/vm^(n/m) are observed to be essentially independent of pT for most centralities up to
about pT = 10 GeV/c. Analysing the differences among higher-order cumulants of elliptic flow (v2),
which have different sensitivities to flow fluctuations, a measurement of the standardised
skewness of the event-by-event v2 distribution P(v2) is reported and constraints
on its higher moments are provided. The Elliptic Power distribution is used to parametrise
P(v2), extracting its parameters from fits to cumulants. The measurements are compared
to different model predictions in order to discriminate among initial-state models and to
constrain the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy-density ratio
Observation of flow angle and flow magnitude fluctuations in Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
This Letter reports on the first measurements of transverse momentum dependent flow angle n and flow magnitude vn fluctuations determined using new four-particle correlators. The measurements are performed for various centralities in PbâPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of âs NN = 5.02 TeV with ALICE at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Both flow angle and flow magnitude fluctuations are observed in the presented centrality ranges and are strongest in the most central collisions and for a transverse momentum pT > 2 GeV/c. Comparison with theoretical models, including iEBE-VISHNU, MUSIC, and AMPT, show that the measurements exhibit unique sensitivities to the initial state of heavy-ion collisions
First measurement of Ωc 0 production in pp collisions at s=13 TeV
The inclusive production of the charmâstrange baryon Omega_c^0 is measured for the first time via its hadronic decay into Omega-pi+ at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in protonâproton (pp) collisions at the centre-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The transverse momentum (pT) differential cross section multiplied by the branching ratio is presented in the interval 2 < pT < 12 GeV/c . The pT dependence of the Omega_C^0-baryon production relative to the prompt D^0-meson and to the prompt Csi_C^0-baryon production is compared to various models that take different hadronisation mechanisms into consideration. In the measured pT interval, the ratio of the pT-integrated cross sections of Omega_c^0 and prompt Lambda_c^+ baryons multiplied by the Omega- pi+ branching ratio is found to be larger by a factor of about 20 with a significance of about 4Ï when compared to e+e- collisions
Global baryon number conservation encoded in net-proton fluctuations measured in PbâPb collisions at âsNN = 2.76 TeV
Experimental results are presented on event-by-event net-proton fluctuation measurements in PbâPb collisions at âSNN=2.76 TeV, recorded by the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. These measurements have as their ultimate goal an experimental test of Lattice QCD (LQCD) predictions on second and higher order cumulants of net-baryon distributions to search for critical behavior near the QCD phase boundary. Before confronting them with LQCD predictions, account has to be taken of correlations stemming from baryon number conservation as well as fluctuations of participating nucleons. Both effects influence the experimental measurements and are usually not considered in theoretical calculations. For the first time, it is shown that event-by-event baryon number conservation leads to subtle long-range correlations arising from very early interactions in the collisions.publishedVersio
Constraining the magnitude of the chiral magnetic effect with event shape engineering in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV
CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTĂFICO E TECNOLĂGICOFINEP - FINANCIADORA DE ESTUDOS E PROJETOSFAPESP - FUNDAĂĂO DE AMPARO Ă PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SĂO PAULOIn ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, the event-by-event variation of the elliptic flow v(2) reflects fluctuations in the shape of the initial state of the system. This allows to select events with the same centrality but different initial geometry. This selection technique, Event Shape Engineering, has been used in the analysis of charge-dependent two-and three-particle correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV. The two-particle correlator < cos(phi(alpha) - phi(ss))gt;, calculated for different combinations of charges alpha and beta, is almost independent of v(2) (for a given centrality), while the three-particle correlator < cos(phi(alpha) + phi(beta) - 2 Psi(2))gt; scales almost linearly both with the event v(2) and charged-particle pseudorapidity density. The charge dependence of the three-particle correlator is often interpreted as evidence for the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME), a parity violating effect of the strong interaction. However, its measured dependence on v(2) points to a large non-CME contribution to the correlator. Comparing the results with Monte Carlo calculations including a magnetic field due to the spectators, the upper limit of the CME signal contribution to the three-particle correlator in the 10-50% centrality interval is found to be 26-33% at 95% confidence level.777151162CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTĂFICO E TECNOLĂGICOFINEP - FINANCIADORA DE ESTUDOS E PROJETOSFAPESP - FUNDAĂĂO DE AMPARO Ă PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SĂO PAULOCNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTĂFICO E TECNOLĂGICOFINEP - FINANCIADORA DE ESTUDOS E PROJETOSFAPESP - FUNDAĂĂO DE AMPARO Ă PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SĂO PAULOSem informaçãoSem informaçãoSem informaçãoAgĂȘncias de fomento estrangeiras apoiaram essa pesquisa, mais informaçÔes acesse artig
Photoproduction of low-pT J/Ï from peripheral to central PbâPb collisions at 5.02 TeV
An excess of J/Ï yield at very low transverse momentum (pT < 0.3 GeV/c), originating from coherent photoproduction, is observed in peripheral and semicentral hadronic PbâPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV. The measurement is performed with the ALICE detector via the dimuon decay channel at forward rapidity (2.5 < y <4). The nuclear modification factor at very low pT and the coherent photoproduction cross section are measured as a function of centrality down to the 10% most central collisions. These results extend the previous study at sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV, confirming the clear excess over hadronic production in the pT range 0-0.3 GeV/c and the centrality range 70â90%, and establishing an excess with a significance greater than 5Ï also in the 50â70% and 30â50% centrality ranges. The results are compared with earlier measurements at sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV and with different theoretical predictions aiming at describing how coherent photoproduction occurs in hadronic interactions with nuclear overlap
Evidence of Spin-Orbital Angular Momentum Interactions in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and Ï) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element Ï_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76Â TeV with the ALICE detector. Ï_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2ââGeV/c) for K^{*0} and Ï at a level of 3Ï and 2Ï, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination
