3 páginas, 2 figuras, 5 referencias.Since the last Holocene sea level rise, about 6,900 yr BP, a series of depositional littoral landforms has been generated at the outlet of the Guadalquivir river, with progradation along the predominant longshore drift (towards the east). The littoral spit systems mapped constitute fur progradation phases. The first is dated between the Flandrian maximum (6,900 yr BP) and 4,500 yr BP; the second between 4,200-3,900 yr BP and 2,700-2,600 yr BP; the third between 2,300 yr BP and 1,100 yr BP; and the fourth between 1,000 yr BP and the present. There were separations of successive erosional phases between 4,500-4,200 yr BP, 2,600-2,300 yr BP and, 1,100-1,000 yr BP. Thus, cycles of higher sedimentation are established, with a slight fall and then stability of sea level. Littoral barrier constructions dominate, with the genesis of extensive tidal flats that decrease the size of the estuaries. These sedimentary phases are interrupted by rapid rises in sea level lasting from 100 to 300 years, when the previously constructed littoral barriers are eroded. The cliffs retreat, causing migration inland of dunar constructions, with frequent overlapping layers. In his theory of mental self-government, Sternberg stated that the way individuals apply their intellectual skills to various tasks, situations, or contexts is as important as the skills themselves. This author called the preferred way in which people apply their intellectual skills thinking style. He identified thirteen thinking styles that are grouped into five dimensions: function, form, level, setting, and tendency. Some recent studies of this theory have cast doubt on the existence of these dimensions. In this study, the structure of thinking styles is analyzed by means of confirmatory hierarchical factor analysis in a sample of students (n= 1153) from Obligatory Secondary Education (ESO) who are significantly older than those employed in previous studies. In general, the results coincide with those reported by other researchers, providing a thinking-style structure that is substantially different from the one suggested by Sternberg.Centro de Investigación Educativa CIDE-98-02 -0 111Dirección General de Enseñanza Superior e Investigación Científica del MEC 1FD97-0 11

IQM-PC332, a Novel DREAM Ligand with Antinociceptive Effect on Peripheral Nerve Injury-Induced Pain

Neuropathic pain is a form of chronic pain arising from damage of the neural cells that sense, transmit or process sensory information. Given its growing prevalence and common refractoriness to conventional analgesics, the development of new drugs with pain relief effects constitutes a prominent clinical need. In this respect, drugs that reduce activity of sensory neurons by modulating ion channels hold the promise to become effective analgesics. Here, we evaluated the mechanical antinociceptive effect of IQM-PC332, a novel ligand of the multifunctional protein downstream regulatory element antagonist modulator (DREAM) in rats subjected to chronic constriction injury of the sciatic nerve as a model of neuropathic pain. IQM-PC332 administered by intraplantar (0.01–10 µg) or intraperitoneal (0.02–1 µg/kg) injection reduced mechanical sensitivity by ≈100% of the maximum possible effect, with ED50 of 0.27 ± 0.05 µg and 0.09 ± 0.01 µg/kg, respectively. Perforated-patch whole-cell recordings in isolated dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons showed that IQM-PC332 (1 and 10 µM) reduced ionic currents through voltage-gated K+ channels responsible for A-type potassium currents, low, T-type, and high voltage-activated Ca2+ channels, and transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) channels. Furthermore, IQM-PC332 (1 µM) reduced electrically evoked action potentials in DRG neurons from neuropathic animals. It is suggested that by modulating multiple DREAM–ion channel signaling complexes, IQM-PC332 may serve a lead compound of novel multimodal analgesics

Chromatin regulation by Histone H4 acetylation at Lysine 16 during cell death and differentiation in the myeloid compartment

Histone H4 acetylation at Lysine 16 (H4K16ac) is a key epigenetic mark involved in gene regulation, DNA repair and chromatin remodeling, and though it is known to be essential for embryonic development, its role during adult life is still poorly understood. Here we show that this lysine is massively hyperacetylated in peripheral neutrophils. Genome-wide mapping of H4K16ac in terminally differentiated blood cells, along with functional experiments, supported a role for this histone post-translational modification in the regulation of cell differentiation and apoptosis in the hematopoietic system. Furthermore, in neutrophils, H4K16ac was enriched at specific DNA repeats. These DNA regions presented an accessible chromatin conformation and were associated with the cleavage sites that generate the 50 kb DNA fragments during the first stages of programmed cell death. Our results thus suggest that H4K16ac plays a dual role in myeloid cells as it not only regulates differentiation and apoptosis, but it also exhibits a non-canonical structural role in poising chromatin for cleavage at an early stage of neutrophil cell death

Genetic complexity impacts the clinical outcome of follicular lymphoma patients

© The Author(s) 2021.Follicular lymphoma (FL) is the second most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL, 20–30%) after diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Despite the introduction of rituximab and the high response rate to first-line treatment, approximately 20% of the FL patients relapse or progress within 2 years of receiving first-line therapy. Therefore, the major challenge is finding biomarkers that identify high-risk patients at diagnosis. This work was partially supported by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness PI15/01393, PI18/00410, CIBERONC-CB16/12/00233, and “Una manera de hacer Europa” (Innocampus; CEI-2010-1-0010)”, the Education Council or Health Council of the Junta de Castilla y León (CAS102P17, GRS 1180/A/15), Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC; PROYE18020BEA), and Gilead Sciences (GLD17/00334). Stratigraphic and structural interpretation of the San Pedro Basin (south-eastern Dominican Republic offshore margin)

The San Pedro Basin (SPB) consists of an E-W bathymetric depression with an extension of 6000 km2, located in the south-eastern margin of Hispaniola Island (Dominican Republic and Haiti). Structurally, the SPB is situated at the rear zone of the Muertos Thrust Belt (MTB). The basin has been dated as middle Miocene in the bibliography, with the infill deposited in the configuration space generated by the progressive deformation of the MTB. Nevertheless, the integration of the new systematic geological mapping (SYSMIN I&II Programs) with geophysical data (reflection seismic, well logs and potential fields) led us to propose a new evolution model of the basin from the start of sedimentation in Upper Cretaceous in a retro-arc context to the inversion of the basin in middle Eocene and the later evolution of the SPB-MTB system until present, establishing the correlation between main sequences with outcrops and well data.Depto. de Geodinámica, Estratigrafía y PaleontologíaDepto. de Mineralogía y PetrologíaFac. de Ciencias GeológicasTRUEpu
