Harvesting and Electron-Exchange Energy Transfer by d0 Metallocene-based Organized Systems

The present contribution will provide an up-to-date overview of novel experimental and theoretical (de-rived quantum-chemically) knowledge on photonics of group IV metallocene-based systems, also with re-spect to their prominent use in catalysis and photoluminescent sensor activity. We have developed photo-physical approach to study measurable properties of the frontier MOs of the complexes, estimate orbital nature of rare long-lived ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) excited states and also supramolecular interactions between basic components of catalytic systems for polymerization: d0-metal complexes and un-saturated hydrocarbon substrates in fluid systems. In the similar way, the photophysical approach is high-lighted to enable studying fine intermolecular interactions in homogeneous systems with low (catalytic) concentrations of metal complexes that cannot be achieved by other conventional methods. We would like to thank the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and CRITICAT Centre for Doctoral Training for financial support [Ph.D. studentship to B.H.; Grant code: EP/L016419/1]. C.L thanks the Prof. & Mrs Purdie Bequests Scholarship and AstraZeneca for his PhD Studentship.Over the last decade, visible light photoredox catalysis has exploded into the consciousness of the synthetic chemist. The principal photocatalysts used are based on rare and toxic ruthenium(II) and iridium(III) complexes. This critical review focusses on Earth-abundant metal complexes as potential replacement photocatalysts and summarizes the use of photoactive Cu(I), Zn(II), Ni(0), V(V), Zr(IV), W(0), W(VI), Mo(0), Cr(III) , Co(III) and Fe(II) complexes in photoredox reactions. The optoelectronic properties of these complexes and relevant structurally related analogs, not yet used for photoredox catalysis, are disccussed in combination with the reaction scope reported for each photocatalyst. Prospects for the future of photocatalyst design are considered.PostprintPeer reviewe

Successful selective arterial thrombolysis in patient with acute abdominal thromboembolism

The paper reports successful thrombolysis conducted in 64 years old woman admitted to the clinic with clinical and angiographic data for acute surgical abdomen caused by acute tromboembolia of arteria mesenterica superior (AMS). The therapeutic approach required to undertake lifesaving decision on i.e. surgical vs. invasive treatment in conditions of emergency. Finally, it was decided to undertake invasive treatment with successful restoration of blood flow in the related artery. The patient was discharged from the clinic with considerable clinical improvement on the fifth day of her stay. The case report includes discussion on issues relating the consequence of the diagnostic and interventional procedures in such patients, opportunities for conducting emergency thrombolysis in acute embolia of AMS and preventive measures in patients with high tromboembolic risk.
