Sex trafficking in the United States: a comprehensive look

The issue of sex trafficking has been largely overlooked in the United States. There are many myths that misrepresent the issue that need to corrected before appropriate actions can be take to combat sex trafficking. Risk factors like previous trauma or abuse, homelessness, alcohol and drug use, and immigration can increase the likelihood of an individual being subjected to trafficking. Although there is a lack of empirical research on the topic of sex trafficking, combining the research that has been conducted with research on sexual abuse and trauma, childhood abuse, and drug and alcohol abuse can give a more complete picture of the psychological implications of this issue. Some research on successful mental health treatment and counseling practices as shown that cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, and trauma informed care are effective in facilitating the recovery of individuals who have experienced extreme trauma. Information about prevention is one of the most essential topics in combating the issue of sex trafficking. Through education, John School, and tailoring aspects of the criminal justice system to appropriately deal with the issue, the United States can increase the fight against trafficking and strive for elimination of this problem.Thesis (B.?)Honors Colleg

According to estimates from several firm executives in consumer electronics as announced during the »Internationale Funkausstellung« (IFA) in Berlin in 2010 and 2011, the market for TVs with integrated 3D technology indicates very promising growth rates for the future. This relatively optimistic forecast was taken as an opportunity to initiate a field research project. Research activity targets to investigate the market potential for TV sets with 3D-technology. A total of 261 people from the Berlin-Brandenburg region were interviewed. Data allow deductions about market potentials for 3D TVs in the future. The empirical data were analyzed using the statistical program SPSS (version 19). Research outcomes are summarized in this paper

Effect of remote ischaemic conditioning on clinical outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction (CONDI-2/ERIC-PPCI): a single-blind randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Remote ischaemic conditioning with transient ischaemia and reperfusion applied to the arm has been shown to reduce myocardial infarct size in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). We investigated whether remote ischaemic conditioning could reduce the incidence of cardiac death and hospitalisation for heart failure at 12 months. METHODS: We did an international investigator-initiated, prospective, single-blind, randomised controlled trial (CONDI-2/ERIC-PPCI) at 33 centres across the UK, Denmark, Spain, and Serbia. Patients (age >18 years) with suspected STEMI and who were eligible for PPCI were randomly allocated (1:1, stratified by centre with a permuted block method) to receive standard treatment (including a sham simulated remote ischaemic conditioning intervention at UK sites only) or remote ischaemic conditioning treatment (intermittent ischaemia and reperfusion applied to the arm through four cycles of 5-min inflation and 5-min deflation of an automated cuff device) before PPCI. Investigators responsible for data collection and outcome assessment were masked to treatment allocation. The primary combined endpoint was cardiac death or hospitalisation for heart failure at 12 months in the intention-to-treat population. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02342522) and is completed. FINDINGS: Between Nov 6, 2013, and March 31, 2018, 5401 patients were randomly allocated to either the control group (n=2701) or the remote ischaemic conditioning group (n=2700). After exclusion of patients upon hospital arrival or loss to follow-up, 2569 patients in the control group and 2546 in the intervention group were included in the intention-to-treat analysis. At 12 months post-PPCI, the Kaplan-Meier-estimated frequencies of cardiac death or hospitalisation for heart failure (the primary endpoint) were 220 (8·6%) patients in the control group and 239 (9·4%) in the remote ischaemic conditioning group (hazard ratio 1·10 [95% CI 0·91-1·32], p=0·32 for intervention versus control). No important unexpected adverse events or side effects of remote ischaemic conditioning were observed. INTERPRETATION: Remote ischaemic conditioning does not improve clinical outcomes (cardiac death or hospitalisation for heart failure) at 12 months in patients with STEMI undergoing PPCI. A Comprehensive I/O Knowledge Cycle for Modular and Automated HPC Workload Analysis

On the way to the exascale era, millions of parallel processing elements are required. Accordingly, one major chal-lenge is the ever-widening gap between computational power and underlying I/O systems. To bridge this gap, I/O resources must be used efficiently, thus a profound I/O knowledge is required. In this work, we analyze state-of-the-art approaches that can be applied to improve the general I/O understanding and performance. Based on our analysis, we present an automated, modular, tool-agnostic I/Oanalysis workflow and a prototype implementation that can be used to generate, extract, store, analyze, and use I/O knowledge in a structured and reproducible way
