    We consider the Hamiltonian BRST quantization of a noncommutative non abelian gauge theory. The Seiberg-Witten map of all phase-space variables, including multipliers, ghosts and their momenta, is given in first order in the noncommutative parameter θ\theta.     Evaluation of solar exposure in Brachiaria decumbens poisoning in sheep

    Foram utilizados 26 ovinos, entre 3 e 4 meses de idade, divididos em 3 grupos, provenientes de rebanhos que nunca tiveram contato com pastos de Brachiaria spp.. Dois grupos receberam Brachiaria decumbens no cocho diariamente ad libitum, sendo que um deles permaneceu em área com exposição solar (GS) e o outro foi mantido em baias cobertas protegidos do sol (GSB). O grupo controle (GC) foi também mantido em local com exposição solar e alimentado com feno de Cynodon dactylon e capim Pennisetum purpureum triturado. Todos os grupos receberam alimentação em cochos e foram suplementados com 200g/ dia/animal de ração comercial para ovinos. Foi realizada a avaliação clínica diária dos ovinos e colhidas amostras duas vezes por semana para dosagem sérica de AST e GGT. Os animais que morreram foram submetidos a necropsia e em todos os ovinos sobreviventes foi realizada biópsia hepática no final do experimento. Três animais do grupo GS adoeceram e dois morreram. Um ovino do grupo GSB adoeceu e morreu. Não houve alterações clínicas nos ovinos controles. Os principais sinais clínicos observados nos animais que adoeceram foram apatia, emagrecimento, fotofobia, hiperemia e secreção ocular e icterícia. Nenhum animal apresentou lesões cutâneas de fotossensibilização. O grupo que permaneceu no sol apresentou atividades séricas médias de AST e GGT significativamente maiores que a dos demais grupos (p≤0,05) e os animais que permaneceram na sombra apresentaram níveis maiores de GGT (p≤0,05) em comparação ao grupo controle. A histopatologia das amostras de fígados dos ovinos com sinais clínicos demonstrou tumefação e vacuolização de hepatócitos, necrose individual de hepatócitos, macrófagos espumosos com cristais birrefringentes intracitoplasmáticos e dentro de ductos biliares e infiltrado mononuclear periportal. Amostras do capim fornecidas aos cordeiros evidenciaram níveis médios de 0,94±0,80% da saponina protodioscina. As observações do presente experimento sugerem que a não exposição ao sol não evita a presença de sinais clínicos da intoxicação, mas que a exposição solar exacerba os sinais clínicos.Twenty-six five-month-old lambs originated from flocks with no previous contact with Brachiaria spp. pastures were divided into three groups. Two groups (GS and GSB) were fed daily with fresh harvested Brachiaria decumbens ad libitum. GS was kept in an area with solar exposure and GSB was kept in stalls sheltered from solar exposure. Control group (GC) was also kept under solar exposure, but fed with Cynodon dactylon grass hay and Pennisetum pur¬pureum fresh grass. All sheep from the three groups were supplemented with 200g daily of a commercial concentrated food. Evaluation of clinical signs was carried out daily and blood samples were collected twice a week to determine AST and GGT serum activities. Three out of nine lambs of GS presented clinical signs of Brachiaria spp. poisoning, and two died. One animal showed clinical signs and died in GSB. The main clinical signs observed were apathy, weight loss, photophobia, conjunctivitis, ocular mucous discharge and jaundice. Dermatitis due to photosensitization was not observed. Mean serum AST and GGT activities were significantly higher (p≤0,05) in the group exposed to sun, than in the other two groups, and the GGT activities were significantly higher in the group sheltered than in the control group (p≤0,05). All animals at the end of the experiment were submitted to liver biopsy and died lambs were necropsied. Histopathological evaluation of liver samples from sheep with clinical signs evidenced swelling and vacuolization of hepatocytes, individual hepatocytes necrosis, presence of foamy macrophages, crystal negative images within bile ducts and foamy macrophages, biliary duct hyperplasia and periportal mononuclear infiltration. These results suggest that sun exposure does not define intoxication, but exacerbates the toxicity of the grass

    Liana cutting for restoring tropical forests : a rare palaeotropical trial

    Liana growth following forest disturbance is threatening the tropical carbon sink by delaying or preventing recov ery. Tree growth can be stimulated by liana cutting; however, its applicability for conservation management remains uncertain, particularly in Africa (the least-studied continent for ecological restoration) and against pervasive barriers such as wildfires. We conducted a small-scale trial to investigate tree sapling regeneration following liana cutting in a lowland African forest prone to low intensity wildfires. We employed a BACI design comprising eighteen 25 m² plots of sapling trees in liana-infested areas. After 5 years of liana cutting, we saw greater recruitment, stem growth and net biomass. Wildfires caused 51% mortality and probably masked liana cutting influences on species and survival, but may have encouraged stem recruitment through interaction with liana cutting. Incorporating our data into a first quantitative review of previous studies, we found that tree growth, recruitment and net growth rates were all consistently higher where lianas were either absent or removed (respectively: 80%, 215%, 633%; n = 14, 3, 4). Tree growth impacts were approximately equivalent across size-classes and continents. We give recommendations for improved plot and sample sizes, but conclude that liana cutting is a promising restoration method for lowland tropical forests, including Africa

    Conserved charges for gravity with locally AdS asymptotics

    A new formula for the conserved charges in 3+1 gravity for spacetimes with local AdS asymptotic geometry is proposed. It is shown that requiring the action to have an extremum for this class of asymptotia sets the boundary term that must be added to the Lagrangian as the Euler density with a fixed weight factor. The resulting action gives rise to the mass and angular momentum as Noether charges associated to the asymptotic Killing vectors without requiring specification of a reference background in order to have a convergent expression. A consequence of this definition is that any negative constant curvature spacetime has vanishing Noether charges.     Black holes with topologically nontrivial AdS asymptotics

    Asymptotically locally AdS black hole geometries of dimension d > 2 are studied for nontrivial topologies of the transverse section. These geometries are static solutions of a set of theories labeled by an integer 0 < k < [(d-1)/2] which possess a unique globally AdS vacuum. The transverse sections of these solutions are d-2 surfaces of constant curvature, allowing for different topological configurations. The thermodynamic analysis of these solutions reveals that the presence of a negative cosmological constant is essential to ensure the existence of stable equilibrium states.     Fluoxetine Arrests Growth of the Model Diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum by Increasing Oxidative Stress and Altering Energetic and Lipid Metabolism

    Pharmaceutical residues impose a new and emerging threat to aquatic environments and its biota. One of the most commonly prescribed pharmaceuticals is the antidepressant fluoxetine, a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor that has been frequently detected, in concentrations up to 40 μg L–1, in aquatic ecosystems. The present study aims to investigate the ecotoxicity of fluoxetine at environmentally relevant concentrations (0.3, 0.6, 20, 40, and 80 μg L–1) on cell energy and lipid metabolism, as well as oxidative stress biomarkers in the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Exposure to higher concentrations of fluoxetine negatively affected cell density and photosynthesis through a decrease in the active PSII reaction centers. Stress response mechanisms, like β-carotene (β-car) production and antioxidant enzymes [superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX)] up-regulation were triggered, likely as a positive feedback mechanism toward formation of fluoxetine-induced reactive oxygen species. Lipid peroxidation products increased greatly at the highest fluoxetine concentration whereas no variation in the relative amounts of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) was observed. However, monogalactosyldiacylglycerol-characteristic fatty acids such as C16:2 and C16:3 increased, suggesting an interaction between light harvesting pigments, lipid environment, and photosynthesis stabilization. Using a canonical multivariate analysis, it was possible to evaluate the efficiency of the application of bio-optical and biochemical techniques as potential fluoxetine exposure biomarkers in P. tricornutum. An overall classification efficiency to the different levels of fluoxetine exposure of 61.1 and 88.9% were obtained for bio-optical and fatty acids profiles, respectively, with different resolution degrees highlighting these parameters as potential efficient biomarkers. Additionally, the negative impact of this pharmaceutical molecule on the primary productivity is also evident alongside with an increase in respiratory oxygen consumption. From the ecological point of view, reduction in diatom biomass due to continued exposure to fluoxetine may severely impact estuarine and coastal trophic webs, by both a reduction in oxygen primary productivity and reduced availability of key fatty acids to the dependent heterotrophic upper levels.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Effects of Propranolol on Growth, Lipids and Energy Metabolism and Oxidative Stress Response of Phaeodactylum tricornutum

    Present demographic trends suggest a rise in the contributions of human pharmaceuticals into coastal ecosystems, underpinning an increasing demand to evaluate the ecotoxicological effects and implications of drug residues in marine risk assessments. Propranolol, a non-selective β-adrenoceptor blocker, is used worldwide to treat high blood pressure conditions and other related cardiovascular conditions. Although diatoms lack β-adrenoceptors, this microalgal group presents receptor-like kinases and proteins with a functional analogy to the animal receptors and that can be targeted by propranolol. In the present work, the authors evaluated the effect of this non-selective β-adrenoceptor blocker in diatom cells using P. tricornutum as a model organism, to evaluate the potential effect of this compound in cell physiology (growth, lipids and energy metabolism and oxidative stress) and its potential relevance for marine ecosystems. Propranolol exposure leads to a significant reduction in diatom cell growth, more evident in the highest concentrations tested. This is likely due to the observed impairment of the main primary photochemistry processes and the enhancement of the mitochondrial respiratory activity. More specifically, propranolol decreased the energy transduction from photosystem II (PSII) to the electron transport chain, leading to an increase in oxidative stress levels. Cells exposed to propranolol also exhibited high-dissipated energy flux, indicating that this excessive energy is efficiently diverted, to some extent, from the photosystems, acting to prevent irreversible photoinhibition. As energy production is impaired at the PSII donor side, preventing energy production through the electron transport chain, diatoms appear to be consuming storage lipids as an energy backup system, to maintain essential cellular functions. This consumption will be attained by an increase in respiratory activity. Considering the primary oxygen production and consumption pathways, propranolol showed a significant reduction of the autotrophic O2 production and an increase in the heterotrophic mitochondrial respiration. Both mechanisms can have negative effects on marine trophic webs, due to a decrease in the energetic input from marine primary producers and a simultaneous oxygen production decrease for heterotrophic species. In ecotoxicological terms, bio-optical and fatty acid data appear as highly efficient tools for ecotoxicity assessment, with an overall high degree of classification when these traits are used to build a toxicological profile, instead of individually assessed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Fluoxetine induces photochemistry-derived oxidative stress on Ulva lactuca

    Emerging pollutants impose a high degree of stress on marine ecosystems, compromising valuable resources, the planet and human health. Pharmaceutical residues often reach marine ecosystems, and their input is directly related to human activities. Fluoxetine is an antidepressant, and one of the most prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors globally and has been detected in aquatic ecosystems in concentrations up to 40 μg L−1 . The present study aims to evaluate the impact of fluoxetine ecotoxicity on the photochemistry, energy metabolism and enzyme activity of Ulva lactuca exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations (0.3, 0.6, 20, 40, and 80 μg L−1 ). Exogenous fluoxetine exposure induced negative impacts on U. lactuca photochemistry, namely on photosystem II antennae grouping and energy fluxes. These impacts included increased oxidative stress and elevated enzymatic activity of ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase. Lipid content increased and the altered levels of key fatty acids such as hexadecadienoic (C16:2) and linoleic (C18:2) acids revealed strong correlations with fluoxetine concentrations tested. Multivariate analyses reinforced the oxidative stress and chlorophyll a fluorescence-derived traits as efficient biomarkers for future toxicology studies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Diseases of the nervous system of cattle in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil : 1082 cases

    Foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo de janeiro de 2008 a dezembro de 2012 com base nos laudos de necropsia do Laboratório de Anatomia Patológica (LAP) da Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia (FAMEZ), Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), com o intuito de descrever quais as doenças que afetam o sistema nervoso de bovinos que ocorrem no Mato Grosso do Sul. Os casos consistiam de acompanhados por técnicos do LAP e encaminhados por médicos veterinários que atuam no campo (autônomos ou do serviço veterinário oficial). De 1082 materiais analisados, 588 apresentavam histórico de sinais clínicos neurológicos. Destes, 341 (53,75%) tiveram diagnóstico correspondente a doenças neurológicas e 247 (46,25%) tiveram diagnóstico inconclusivos. As fichas clínico epidemiológicas foram revisadas para determinar dados referentes a epidemiologia, aos sinais clínicos e às alterações macroscópicas e microscópicas. O botulismo (16,67%), a raiva (15,92%), a polioencefalomalacia (8,05%) e a encefalite por herpesvirus bovino (4,31%) foram as enfermidade de maior frequência. Outras doenças como meningoencefalite não supurativa (2,62%), meningoencefalite supurativa (1,50%), abscessos cerebrais e osteomielite por compressão medular (1,31%), tétano (1,12%), hipotermia (0,94%), babesiose cerebral (0,75%), febre catarral maligna (0,37%) e lesões sugestivas de intoxicação por oxalato (0,19%) foram ocasionalmente diagnosticadas. Em nenhum dos casos foram observadas lesões que pudessem sugerir encefalopatia espongiforme bovina.The aim of this study was to describe the types of diseases that affect the nervous system of cattle from the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. A retrospective study from January 2008 to December 2012 was perfomed, based on reports of cattle autopsies autopsy carried out by the Laboratório de Anatomia Patológica (LAP), Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia (FAMEZ), Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS). The material came from cases attended and forwarded to LAP by practicing veterinarians autonomous and from the official veterinary service. From 1028 cases studied, 588 presented a history of neurological clinical signs, 341 (53.75%) of which were diagnosed as affected bytrue neurological disease, and 247 (46.25%) had inconclusive diagnosis. The clinical records were reviewed to determine epidemiology, clinical signs, and gross and histopathological features. The most frequent diseases were botulism (16.67%), rabies (15.92%), polioencephalomalacia (8.05%), and herpesviral meningoencephalitis (4.31%). Other conditions were diagnosed occasionally, and included non suppurative meningoencephalitis (2.62%), suppurative meningoencephalitis (1.50%), brain abscesses and osteomyelitis caused by spinal cord compression (1.31%), tetanus (1.12%), hypothermia (0.94%), cerebral babesiosis (0.75%), malignant catarrhal fever (0.37%), and cases suggestive of oxalate poisoning (0.19%). No cases with lesions that may suggest of bovine spongiform encephalopathy were observed
