Sinusite récidivante due à Schizophyllum commune. À propos de deux nouveaux cas

    Get PDF
Schizophyllum commune is a basidiomycete fungus of the agaricomycetes class. It is usually found in forest habitats in the form of saprophytic and lignicolous fungus. Its implication in human pathology is rare, only 50 clinical cases among which 18 cases of sinusitis have been described in the last 60 years. We report two new cases of sinusitis. The first was a 57-year-old woman with chronic sinusitis and the second was a 56-year-old man suffering from an allergic sinusitis. This basidiomycete was identified after isolation in culture both by macroscopic and microscopic aspect and molecular biology. In both cases, evacuation and drainage by surgical debridment were sufficient to obtain a cure. The main bioclinical characteristics of Schizophyllum commune infection are provided

Anisotropy studies around the galactic centre at EeV energies with the Auger Observatory

Data from the Pierre Auger Observatory are analyzed to search for anisotropies near the direction of the Galactic Centre at EeV energies. The exposure of the surface array in this part of the sky is already significantly larger than that of the fore-runner experiments. Our results do not support previous findings of localized excesses in the AGASA and SUGAR data. We set an upper bound on a point-like flux of cosmic rays arriving from the Galactic Centre which excludes several scenarios predicting sources of EeV neutrons from Sagittarius AA. Also the events detected simultaneously by the surface and fluorescence detectors (the `hybrid' data set), which have better pointing accuracy but are less numerous than those of the surface array alone, do not show any significant localized excess from this direction.Comment: Matches published versio

A study of strange particle production in νμ\nu_\mu charged current interactions in the NOMAD experiment

    Get PDF
NeutrinosA study of strange particle production in νμ\nu_\mu charged current interactions has been performed using the data from the NOMAD experiment. Yields of neutral strange particles (\ko, \lam, \alam) have been measured. Mean multiplicities are reported as a function of the event kinematic variables EνE_\nu, W2W^2 and Q2Q^2 as well as of the variables describing particle behaviour within a hadronic jet: xFx_F, zz and pT2p_T^2. Decays of resonances and heavy hyperons with identified \ko and \lam in the final state have been analyzed. Clear signals corresponding to K±\rm {K^\star}^\pm Σ±\rm {\Sigma^\star}^\pm, Ξ\rm \Xi^- and Σ0\rm \Sigma^0 have been observed

Examens mycologiques et parasitologiques dans la prise en charge des infections pulmonaires

International audiencePulmonary parasitic diseases are rare whereas pulmonary fungal infections are increasing. The diversity of clinical presentations requires laboratory tests to confirm the diagnosis. Direct examination of lung samples and antibody detection are the basis of parasitological diagnosis. With regard to mycoses, the range of biological tests is broader. The conventional mycological examination allows identification of any type of fungus except Pneumocystis jirovecii. Its specificity is excellent but it lacks sensitivity. Detection of antibodies, antigens or nucleic acid complements the diagnostic tools. With regard to aspergillosis, there is a broad nosological set with variable prognosis. The choice of appropriate laboratory procedures depends on the clinical presentation and patient risk factors. The search for galactomannan antigen is effective and a new technique, "Lateral Flow Device", seems very promising. The detection of antibodies is also informative but various techniques are used. A good knowledge of the performance and limitations of these techniques allows targeted prescription. The use of PCR for the diagnosis of pulmonary fungal infections has limited indications. Biological and clinical co-operation is essential for the choice and interpretation of laboratory tests for parasitic or fungal pulmonary disease
