The graphic survey of the built heritage allows and makes possible a graphic territory of learning, analysis, experimentation, communication and deposit for architecture. It supposes, in addition to the connection between the theory and the practice of our discipline, an excellent framework for teaching. In this context, photogrammetry is evidenced as a rigorous and efficient technique that, at the service of relevant hypotheses, is capable of producing results that are as valuable as they are contemporary. This research paper, created after the tutelage of more than forty final degree projects that use the photogrammetric technique, develops a classification proposal for qualified point clouds (as part of the technique workflow) based on the temporal nature of the drawings. In this way we will argue the three possible positions (previous or tool, intermediate or process and later or result) to conclude by claiming the relevance and importance of their consideration during the value of the drawings of the built architecture. This work is developed as part of an R+D+I project entitled “The representation of time in graphic expression”, with reference project-emergent-GRE18-10 and funded, in public concurrence, by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Transfer of Knowledge of the University of Alicante

Nursing Motives for Helping Scale (N-MHS): Reliability and Validity

    Get PDF
This paper presents the Nursing Motives for Helping Scale (N-MHS), an instrument designed for the evaluation of three of the four motives for helping derived from Batson’s helping pathway theory. Dimensionality was analyzed by means of principal component analysis (n = 113), followed by confirmatory factor analysis. A 3-factor structure (corresponding to Batson’s differentiation among altruistic motivation, reward-seeking motivation, and punishment-avoidance motivation, respectively), with 9 items distributed in three latent variables, revealed an acceptable fit to the data. Alpha values (.60 - .74) showed that internal consistency was acceptable for a newly developed subscale with a small number of items. Convergence validity was evaluated with correlations between N-MHS subscales scores and scores on the Professional Expectations Scale (Garrosa, Moreno-Jiménez, Rodríguez-Carvajal, & Morante, 2005). The three resulting subscales are a promising instrument for the evaluation of three nursing motives for helping that can contribute to reduce the potential risks and to improve the potential benefits both for the nurse and the patient.

Factors that influence French consumer satisfaction in the preference for Chilean avocados (Persea americana Mill.)

    Get PDF
Most avocados consumed in France come from Peru or Chile. French suppliers vary based on the season; however, Chile is the main supplier of avocados during the winter season. The aim of this study is to analyze the key variables that influence French consumer satisfaction in the preference for Chilean avocados. This is substantiated using an exploratory multivariate analysis, which was performed on a causal model comprised of endogenous constructs: perceived extrinsic and intrinsic quality, perceived risk and perceived value. The sample consists of 346 French consumers of Chilean avocados in supermarkets of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The main results show that the risk perceived by French consumers can only be related to the perceived extrinsic quality of the product. On the other hand, both perceived intrinsic and extrinsic quality are directly related to perceived value. Finally, it is concluded that French consumer satisfaction in the preference for Chilean avocados can be explained by the variables perceived intrinsic quality, perceived extrinsic quality and perceived value

On the track of the missing tRNA genes: a source of non-canonical functions?

Cellular tRNAs appear today as a diverse population of informative macromolecules with conserved general elements ensuring essential common functions and different and distinctive features securing specific interactions and activities. Their differential expression and the variety of post-transcriptional modifications they are subject to, lead to the existence of complex repertoires of tRNA populations adjusted to defined cellular states. Despite the tRNA-coding genes redundancy in prokaryote and eukaryote genomes, it is surprising to note the absence of genes coding specific translational-active isoacceptors throughout the phylogeny. Through the analysis of different releases of tRNA databases, this review aims to provide a general summary about those “missing tRNA genes.” This absence refers to both tRNAs that are not encoded in the genome, as well as others that show critical sequence variations that would prevent their activity as canonical translation adaptor molecules. Notably, while a group of genes are universally missing, others are absent in particular kingdoms. Functional information available allows to hypothesize that the exclusion of isodecoding molecules would be linked to: 1) reduce ambiguities of signals that define the specificity of the interactions in which the tRNAs are involved; 2) ensure the adaptation of the translational apparatus to the cellular state; 3) divert particular tRNA variants from ribosomal protein synthesis to other cellular functions. This leads to consider the “missing tRNA genes” as a source of putative non-canonical tRNA functions and to broaden the concept of adapter molecules in ribosomal-dependent protein synthesis

The purpose of the study was threefold: (a) to implement a game context approach to assess the game performance components and, in doing so, (b) to know if second graders have the appropriate development to learn games, and (c) to design a suitable learning progressions within tactical teaching approaches. Game performance was assessed in second graders (n=16; age 7-8 years) with special attention to decision making component. Participants achieved a high level of tactical awareness in attacking the goal contexts and low performance in response execution. Findings suggested that second grade students are ready to learn games as long as a tactical approach as Teaching Games for Understanding was used.

    Get PDF
This work uses the MOA model to explain to what level motivation, opportunity and ability of users are factors determining the intentions to use social media when organizing and taking vacation trips. The conclusions of the study reveal that the intentions to use social media are directly influenced by the motivation and ability of users; however, the opportunity does not significantly affect the predisposition to use such technologies. In turn, functional and hedonic benefits have an influence on motivations, while social benefits do not.

A repairability index for reinforced concrete members based on fracture mechanics

This paper proposes a repairability index for damage assessment in reinforced concrete structural members. The procedure discussed in this paper differs from the standard methods in two aspects: the structural and damage analyses are coupled and it is based on the concepts of fracture and continuum damage mechanics. The relationship between the repairability index and the well-known Park and Ang index is shown in some particular cases

In silico whole-genome screening for cancer-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms located in human mRNA untranslated regions

BACKGROUND: A promising application of the huge amounts of genetic data currently available lies in developing a better understanding of complex diseases, such as cancer. Analysis of publicly available databases can help identify potential candidates for genes or mutations specifically related to the cancer phenotype. In spite of their huge potential to affect gene function, no systematic attention has been paid so far to the changes that occur in untranslated regions of mRNA. RESULTS: In this study, we used Expressed Sequence Tag (EST) databases as a source for cancer-related sequence polymorphism discovery at the whole-genome level. Using a novel computational procedure, we focused on the identification of untranslated region (UTR)-localized non-coding Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (UTR-SNPs) significantly associated with the tumoral state. To explore possible relationships between genetic mutation and phenotypic variation, bioinformatic tools were used to predict the potential impact of cancer-associated UTR-SNPs on mRNA secondary structure and UTR regulatory elements. We provide a comprehensive and unbiased description of cancer-associated UTR-SNPs that may be useful to define genotypic markers or to propose polymorphisms that can act to alter gene expression levels. Our results suggest that a fraction of cancer-associated UTR-SNPs may have functional consequences on mRNA stability and/or expression. CONCLUSION: We have undertaken a comprehensive effort to identify cancer-associated polymorphisms in untranslated regions of mRNA and to characterize putative functional UTR-SNPs. Alteration of translational control can change the expression of genes in tumor cells, causing an increase or decrease in the concentration of specific proteins. Through the description of testable candidates and the experimental validation of a number of UTR-SNPs discovered on the secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) gene, this report illustrates the utility of a cross-talk between in silico transcriptomics and cancer genetics
