A closed form for slant submanifolds of generalized Sasakian space forms

    Get PDF
The Maslov form is a closed form for a Lagrangian submanifold of Cm, and it is a conformal form if and only if M satisfies the equality case of a natural inequality between the norm of the mean curvature and the scalar curvature, and it happens if and only if the second fundamental form satisfies a certain relation. In a previous paper we presented a natural inequality between the norm of the mean curvature and the scalar curvature of slant submanifolds of generalized Sasakian space forms, characterizing the equality case by certain expression of the second fundamental form. In this paper, first, we present an adapted form for slant submanifolds of a generalized Sasakian space form, similar to the Maslov form, that is always closed. And, in the equality case, we studied under which circumstances the given closed form is also conformal.Junta de AndalucíaMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO). Españ

Collective electronic excitations in metal-coated C_60

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaA two-shell jellium-on-jellium model has been used to study the collective electronic excitations of C_60 coated by an increasing number N of Na atoms. We predict a transition from the π-electron polarization of the fullerene to the metallic sodium polarization as a function of increasing N. For low coverages, the Na layer produces only a broadening and fragmentation of the π plasmon of C_60. However, if the coverage is large enough, a Na surface plasmon appears. This occurs only after the electron density of the cluster clearly shows two distinct regions, the outer one having an ‘‘average’’ density similar to that in pure Na metal or Na clusters. The induced density at the collective-mode frequency shows structure corresponding to two interfaces, C_(60-)Na and Na vacuum, the first peak becoming less pronounced as the coverage increases due to a transfer of oscillator strength to the metallic counterpart. The static polarizability per electron also shows this trend and tends slowly to the Na value from below after an initial sharp rise in the region N∼13–21

Programa de Educación para la Salud: Catéter Reservorio Venoso Subcutáneo

    Get PDF

Using a correspondence between totally umbilic null hypersurfaces in generalized Robertson-Walker spaces and twisted decompositions of the fibre we show that nullcones are the unique totally umbilic null hypersurfaces in the closed Friedmann Cosmological model and a uniqueness result for dual pairs of totally umbilic null hypersurfaces in Reissner-Nordström and De Sitter-Schwarzschild spacetimes.Junta de AndalucíaMinisterio de Economía y CompetitividadFondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regiona

Lagrangian translators under mean curvature flow

    Get PDF
We provide a new construction of Lagrangian surfaces in C2 in terms of two planar curves. When we take such curves as appropriate solutions of the curve shortening problem, including self-shrinking and self-expanding curves or spirals, we will obtain translating solitons which generalize the Joyce, Lee and Tsui ones in dimension two D. Joyce, Y.-I. Lee, and M.-P. Tsui. Self-similar solutions and translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow. J. Differential Geom. 84 (2010), no. 1, 127-161. Finally, we characterize locally all examples in terms of an analytical condition on the Hermitian product of the position vector of the immersion and the translating vector that allows us separation of variables. As a consequence we get the classification of the Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow in complex Euclidean plane. This work is based in I. Castro and A. M. Lerma. Translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow in complex Euclidean plane. Internat. J. Stress compensation by gap monolayers for stacked InAs/GaAs quantum dots solar cells

    Get PDF
In this work we report the stacking of 10 and 50 InAs quantum dots layers using 2 monolayers of GaP for stress compensation and a stack period of 18 nm on GaAs (001) substrates. Very good structural and optical quality is found in both samples. Vertical alignment of the dots is observed by transmission electron microscopy suggesting the existence of residual stress around them. Photocurrent measurements show light absorption up to 1.2 μm in the nanostructures together with a reduction in the blue response of the device. As a result of the phosphorus incorporation in the barriers, a very high thermal activation energy (431 meV) has also been obtained for the quantum dot emission

Oligonucleotide Sensor Based on Selective Capture of Upconversion Nanoparticles Triggered by Target-Induced DNA Interstrand Ligand Reaction

    Get PDF
We present a sensor that exploits the phenomenon of upconversion luminescence to detect the presence of specific sequences of small oligonucleotides such as miRNAs among others. The sensor is based on NaYF4:Yb,Er@SiO2 nanoparticles functionalized with ssDNA that contain azide groups on the 3' ends. In the presence of a target sequence, interstrand ligation is possible via the click-reaction between one azide of the upconversion probe and a DBCO-ssDNA-biotin probe present in the solution. As a result of this specific and selective process, biotin is covalently attached to the surface of the upconversion nanoparticles. The presence of biotin on the surface of the nanoparticles allows their selective capture on a streptavidin-coated support, giving a luminescent signal proportional to the amount of target strands present in the test samples. With the aim of studying the analytical properties of the sensor, total RNA samples were extracted from healthy mosquitoes and were spiked-in with a specific target sequence at different concentrations. The result of these experiments revealed that the sensor was able to detect 10-17 moles per well (100 fM) of the target sequence in mixtures containing 100 ng of total RNA per well. A similar limit of detection was found for spiked human serum samples, demonstrating the suitability of the sensor for detecting specific sequences of small oligonucleotides under real conditions. In contrast, in the presence of noncomplementary sequences or sequences having mismatches, the luminescent signal was negligible or conspicuously reduced. The authors are grateful for the financial support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with Grant OPP1128411, Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, Santander-Universidad Complutense project PR26/16-12B-3, and from the Spanish MINECO for the projects MAT2014-55065-R, SAF2014-56763-R, and FIS2013-41709-P.S
