The Influence of Growth Stage on Carcass Compositionand Factors Associated with Marbling Development in Beef Cattle
There are many cellular regulatory factors that ultimately determine the intramuscular fat, or marbling content and quality of beef carcasses. Identifying factors which play a critical role in the development of intramuscular fat throughout the feeding period and determining how cattle feeders can manipulate these factors will be crucial to continue improving beef quality. Ideally, marbling must increase without excess accumulation of adipose in depots that are undesirable and economically detrimental (subcutaneous and visceral). The results of this study are novel as they show not only what cellular factors play a role in marbling development, but also how their expression and presence change as an animal grows in an American‐style production system. The increase in both expression and presence of peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor γ (PPARγ) at the end of the feeding phase suggest the proliferation and differentiation of additional cells to adipocytes is required in order to increase intramuscular fat content. This does not mean that adipocyte filling (lipogenesis) does not play a key role as well. However marbling content will reach a plateau without the recruitment of additional adipocytes. While it has been previously established that intramuscular adipocytes have a pattern of metabolism unique to other adipocytes, further research into how the metabolism of intramuscular fat differs from other fat depots and how this metabolism changes throughout the feeding phase will enhance the ability to produce high quality carcasses while limiting undesirable carcass fat
High Magnetic Field Microwave Conductivity of 2D Electrons in an Array of Antidots

Re, of a high mobility 2D electron system containing an antidot
array. Re vs frequency () increases strongly in the regime of
the fractional quantum Hall effect series, with Landau filling .
At microwave , Re vs exhibits a broad peak centered around
. On the peak, the 10 GHz Re can exceed its dc-limit
value by a factor of 5. This enhanced microwave conductivity is unobservable
for temperature K, and grows more pronounced as is
decreased. The effect may be due to excitations supported by the antidot edges,

On-chip waveguide coupling of a layered semiconductor single photon source
Fully integrated quantum technology based on photons is in the focus of current research, because of its immense potential concerning performance and scalability. Ideally, the single-photon sources, the processing units, and the photon detectors are all combined on a single chip. Impressive progress has been made for on-chip quantum circuits and on-chip single-photon detection. In contrast, nonclassical light is commonly coupled onto the photonic chip from the outside, because presently only few integrated single-photon sources exist. Here, we present waveguide-coupled single-photon emitters in the layered semiconductor gallium selenide as promising on-chip sources. GaSe crystals with a thickness below 100 nm are placed on Si3N4 rib or slot waveguides, resulting in a modified mode structure efficient for light coupling. Using optical excitation from within the Si3N4 waveguide, we find nonclassicality of generated photons routed on the photonic chip. Thus, our work provides an easy-to-implement and robust light source for integrated quantum technology
A Literature Review on Cloud Computing Adoption Issues in Enterprises
Part 3: Creating Value through ApplicationsInternational audienceCloud computing has received increasing interest from enterprises since its inception. With its innovative information technology (IT) services delivery model, cloud computing could add technical and strategic business value to enterprises. However, cloud computing poses highly concerning internal (e.g., Top management and experience) and external issues (e.g., regulations and standards). This paper presents a systematic literature review to explore the current key issues related to cloud computing adoption. This is achieved by reviewing 51 articles published about cloud computing adoption. Using the grounded theory approach, articles are classified into eight main categories: internal, external, evaluation, proof of concept, adoption decision, implementation and integration, IT governance, and confirmation. Then, the eight categories are divided into two abstract categories: cloud computing adoption factors and processes, where the former affects the latter. The results of this review indicate that enterprises face serious issues before they decide to adopt cloud computing. Based on the findings, the paper provides a future information systems (IS) research agenda to explore the previously under-investigated areas regarding cloud computing adoption factors and processes. This paper calls for further theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions to the research area of cloud computing adoption by enterprises
Detector Description and Performance for the First Coincidence Observations between LIGO and GEO
For 17 days in August and September 2002, the LIGO and GEO interferometer
gravitational wave detectors were operated in coincidence to produce their
first data for scientific analysis. Although the detectors were still far from
their design sensitivity levels, the data can be used to place better upper
limits on the flux of gravitational waves incident on the earth than previous
direct measurements. This paper describes the instruments and the data in some

Ferulic acid and derivatives: molecules with potential application in the pharmaceutical field
Ferulic acid is a phenolic acid widely distributed in the plant kingdom. It presents a wide range of potential therapeutic effects useful in the treatments of cancer, diabetes, lung and cardiovascular diseases, as well as hepatic, neuro and photoprotective effects and antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities. Overall, the pharmaceutical potential of ferulic acid can be attributed to its ability to scavenge free radicals. However, recent studies have revealed that ferulic acid presents pharmacological properties beyond those related to its antioxidant activity, such as the ability to competitively inhibit HMG-CoA reductase and activate glucokinase, contributing to reduce hypercholesterolemia and hyperglycemia, respectively. The present review addresses ferulic acid dietary sources, the pharmacokinetic profile, antioxidant action mechanisms and therapeutic effects in the treatment and prevention of various diseases, in order to provide a basis for understanding its mechanisms of action as well as its pharmaceutical potential
