Report on Owned Dog Population Survey In Lingayen, Philippines
The Philippines is among the Southeast Asian countries that has a long-standing problem with rabies. About 200 people die of rabies each year in the Philippines, and most are attributed to dog bite cases (Deray, 2015). The sources of infection of more than 95% of human rabies cases worldwide have been reported to be domestic dogs (Cleaveland, et al., 2006). Focusing on the main source rather than the human population, is therefore, the best strategy to eliminate rabies. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends covering at least 70% of the existing domestic dog population with rabies vaccination in the shortest time possible (WHO, 2015). Experts and epidemiologists also recommend maintaining the population immunity above this critical level for at least twelve months, which also interrupts the transmission of rabies among the target population (Coleman & Dye, 1996; Cleaveland, et al., 2003; Hampson, et al., 2009; Morters, et al., 2013)

Residual Stresses in Alloy IN718 Produced Through Modulated Laser Powder Bed Fusion
Background: Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) additive manufacturing (AM) is used for building metallic parts layer-by-layer and often generates non-uniform thermal gradients between layers during fabrication, resulting in the development of residual stresses when parts are cooled down. Objective: The impact of modulated laser used during the L-PBF process on residual stresses in Inconel 718 (IN718) material was investigated. The impact of build directions on residual stress is also determined. Methods: The contour method is employed to measure the full-field residual stress component on the cross-section of samples. A complementary residual stress measurement method, incremental hole drilling, was employed for obtaining in-plane residual stress components. Results: The results show that the residual stress distribution is sensitive to the build direction, with a higher magnitude of residual stress in the direction of build than that in the transverse direction. Multiple measurements with the same manufacturing parameters show good repeatability. Conclusion: Residual stresses in the as-built parts are significant and hence a further consideration regarding relieving residual stresses is required when post-thermal treatments are developed
Complexome analysis of the nitrite - dependent methanotroph Methylomirabilis lanthanidiphila
The atmospheric concentration of the potent greenhouse gases methane and nitrous oxide (N2O) has increased drastically during the last century. Methylomirabilis bacteria can play an import role in controlling the emission of these two gases from natural ecosystems, by oxidizing methane to CO2 and reducing nitrite to N2 without producing N2O. These bacteria have an anaerobic metabolism, but are proposed to possess an oxygen-dependent pathway for the activation of methane. Methylomirabilis bacteria reduce nitrite to NO, and are proposed to dismutate NO into O2 and N2 by a putative NO dismutase (NO-D). The O2 produced in the cell can then be used for the activation of methane by a particulate methane monooxygenase. So far, the metabolic model of Methylomirabilis bacteria was based mainly on (meta)genomics and physiological experiments. Here we applied a complexome profiling approach to determine which of the proposed enzymes are actually expressed in Methylomirabilis lanthanidiphila. To validate the metabolic model, we focused on enzymes involved in respiration, and nitrogen and C1 transformation. All complexes proposed to be involved in nitrite-dependent methane oxidation, were identified in M. lanthanidiphila, including the putative NO-D. Furthermore, several complexes involved in nitrate reduction/nitrite oxidation and NO reduction were detected, which likely play a role in detoxification and redox homeostasis. In conclusion, complexome profiling validated the expression and composition of enzymes proposed to be involved in the energy, methane and nitrogen metabolism of M. lanthanidiphila, thereby further corroborating the metabolically unique and environmentally relevant process of nitrite-dependent methane oxidation
Pituitary infiltration by non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: a case report
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Pituitary adenomas represent the most frequently observed type of sellar masses; however, the presence of a rapidly growing sellar tumor, diabetes insipidus, ophthalmoplegia and headaches in an older patient strongly suggests metastasis to the pituitary. Since the anterior pituitary has a great reserve capacity, metastasis to the pituitary and pituitary involvement in lymphoma are usually asymptomatic. Whereas diabetes insipidus is the most frequent symptom, patients can present with headaches, ophthalmoplegia and bilateral hemianopsia.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 70-year-old woman with no previous history of malignancy presented with headaches, right oculomotor nerve palsy and diabetes insipidus. As magnetic resonance imaging revealed a sellar mass involving the pituitary gland and infundibular stalk, which also extended into the right cavernous sinus and sphenoid sinus, the patient underwent an immediate transsphenoidal decompression surgery. Her prolactin was 102.4 ng/ml, whereas her gonadotropic hormone levels were low. A low level of urine osmolality after overnight water deprivation, along with normal plasma osmolality suggested diabetes insipidus. Histological examination revealed that the mass had been the infiltration of a high grade B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma involving respiratory system epithelial cells. Paranasal sinus computed tomography scanning and magnetic resonance imaging of the thorax and abdomen were performed. Since magnetic resonance imaging did not reveal any abnormality, after paranasal sinus computed tomography was performed, we concluded that the primary lymphoma originated from the sphenoid sinus and infiltrated the pituitary. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy to the sellar area were planned, but the patient died and her family did not permit an autopsy.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Lymphoma infiltration to the pituitary is difficult to differentiate from pituitary adenoma, meningioma and other sellar lesions. To plan the treatment of lymphoma infiltration of the pituitary gland, it must be differentiated from other sellar lesions.</p
GONAF – the borehole Geophysical Observatory at the North Anatolian Fault in the eastern Sea of Marmara
The Marmara section of the
North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) runs under water and is located less than
20 km from the 15-million-person population center of Istanbul in its
eastern portion. Based on historical seismicity data, recurrence times
forecast an impending magnitude M>7 earthquake for this region.
The permanent GONAF (Geophysical Observatory at the North Anatolian Fault)
has been installed around this section to help capture the seismic and strain
activity preceding, during, and after such an anticipated event
Measurement of the Lifetime Difference Between B_s Mass Eigenstates
We present measurements of the lifetimes and polarization amplitudes for B_s
--> J/psi phi and B_d --> J/psi K*0 decays. Lifetimes of the heavy (H) and
light (L) mass eigenstates in the B_s system are separately measured for the
first time by determining the relative contributions of amplitudes with
definite CP as a function of the decay time. Using 203 +/- 15 B_s decays, we
obtain tau_L = (1.05 +{0.16}/-{0.13} +/- 0.02) ps and tau_H = (2.07
+{0.58}/-{0.46} +/- 0.03) ps. Expressed in terms of the difference DeltaGamma_s
and average Gamma_s, of the decay rates of the two eigenstates, the results are
DeltaGamma_s/Gamma_s = (65 +{25}/-{33} +/- 1)%, and DeltaGamma_s = (0.47

Diffractive Dijet Production at sqrt(s)=630 and 1800 GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron
We report a measurement of the diffractive structure function of
the antiproton obtained from a study of dijet events produced in association
with a leading antiproton in collisions at GeV at the
Fermilab Tevatron. The ratio of at GeV to
obtained from a similar measurement at GeV is compared with
expectations from QCD factorization and with theoretical predictions. We also
report a measurement of the (-Pomeron) and ( of parton in
Pomeron) dependence of at GeV. In the region
, GeV and , is
found to be of the form , which obeys

Inclusive Search for Anomalous Production of High-pT Like-Sign Lepton Pairs in Proton-Antiproton Collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV
We report on a search for anomalous production of events with at least two
charged, isolated, like-sign leptons with pT > 11 GeV/c using a 107 pb^-1
sample of 1.8 TeV ppbar collisions collected by the CDF detector. We define a
signal region containing low background from Standard Model processes. To avoid
bias, we fix the final cuts before examining the event yield in the signal
region using control regions to test the Monte Carlo predictions. We observe no
events in the signal region, consistent with an expectation of
0.63^(+0.84)_(-0.07) events. We present 95% confidence level limits on new
physics processes in both a signature-based context as well as within a
