    Luxury designer handbag or counterfeit? An investigation into the antecedents influencing womenā€™s purchasing behaviour of luxury designer and counterfeit brands

    The drive and appeal of luxury designer products has fuelled consumer desire for luxury designer brands and their counterfeit versions. Some women value luxury designer handbags just the way men value their cars. The luxury designer handbag market has witnessed a surge of counterfeit handbag versions. The study focused on women in London, which has been ranked at number one in relation to demand levels of fashion handbags. Several antecedents were investigated for the purpose of this research, which are as follows: ā€¢Social consumption factors which incorporates an investigation into brand meaning and social meaning; ā€¢Attitudinal factors; ā€¢Individual factors which looks at the BLI (brand luxury index) and materialism; and ā€¢Post consumption emotions; Several research gaps were identified: firstly, there are no studies available on investigating identical antecedents in both luxury designer and counterfeit commodities, or even to a specific product category. Secondly, a number of researchers have examined consumersā€™ evaluative criteria in clothing, yet few have focused on the mentioned antecedents as part of the evaluative criteria of luxury designer handbags and counterfeit handbag versions. The investigation was carried out via quantitative data collection and was cross-analysed. The highlighted antecedents are important domains in the discipline of consumer choice behaviour. The research included two phases; a pilot survey study which pre-tested the acknowledged scales and a main survey incorporating the most important adapted constructs influencing consumer choice behaviours. The main analysis was based on data collected from a sample of 353 respondents in London. The conceptual model is unique in its specifications presenting a new behaviour orientated model which highlights integral factors in consumer behaviour. The research identified contemporary associations and discrepancies among women in London. The result of this research provides general support in understanding consumer decision-making and offers a comprehensive understanding of the effect of consumer evaluation and attitudes towards luxury designer handbags and counterfeit handbag versions.     Conflict of roles, a conflict of ideas? The unsettled relations between care team staff and independent mental health advocates.

    Drawing on a national study of Independent Mental Health Advocacy we explore the social relations of independent advocacy. The study was commissioned by the Department of Health (England) and involved a case study design covering eight different geographies and service configurations, and interviews or focus groups with a total of 289 stakeholders across two phases of inquiry. This paper focuses on analysis of qualitative data relevant to the relationship between mental health care services and independent advocacy services, drawn from interviews with 214 participants in phase two of the study. Discussion of these particular findings affords insights into the working relations of independent advocacy within mental health services beset by reorganizational change and funding cuts, and increasing levels of legally sanctioned compulsion and coercion. We offer a matrix which accounts for the different types of working relationships that can arise and how these are associated with various levels of understanding of independent advocacy on the one hand, and appreciation for the value of advocacy on the other. The discussion is framed by the wider literature on advocacy and the claims by practitioners such as nurses for an advocacy role as part of their professional repertoire

    Probing brand luxury: a multiple lens approach

    Research relevant to the creation and development of luxury brands is a growing area of interest and importance to branding practitioners and scholars. The issue here is that it is difficult to move forward when current brand luxury theory resembles a patchwork of definitions, methods and metrics. To add clarity, delineate brand luxury from other similar terms and concepts, and improve brand luxury knowledge, this article probes brand luxury through seven lenses. The findings enable brand luxury practice and theory to move forward on the basis of scientific merit. The results delineate brand luxury from competing terms such as brand status and prestigious brands ā€“ enabling practitioners and academics to precisely determine the extent to which luxury contributes to a brand, resolve whether or not a brand is a luxury brand, and establish with some accuracy the net worth of the brand luxury market
