The present article shows a review and assessment of the secondary sources of data available to measure anti-Gypsyism at European level. Based on these sources, it proposed an anti-Gypsyism system of indicators organized into three key dimensions: 1st) rejection attitudes towards the Roma population, 2nd) discrimination reported by the Roma population in different social contexts, and 3rd) social exclusion of the Roma population in different aspects of their living standards. The results indicate the existence of paradoxes and inconsistencies between the three dimensions. We point out the need for significant improvement in the tools for measuring prejudice, discrimination and social exclusion towards the Roma population, but also to advance in the analysis of current mechanisms of domination that foster the naturalization of social inequality.
Distinct Microglial Responses in Two Transgenic Murine Models of TAU Pathology
Microglial cells are crucial players in the pathological process of neurodegenerative
diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Microglial response in AD has been
principally studied in relation to amyloid-beta pathology but, comparatively, little is known
about inflammatory processes associated to tau pathology. In the hippocampus of
AD patients, where tau pathology is more prominent than amyloid-beta pathology,
a microglial degenerative process has been reported. In this work, we have directly
compared the microglial response in two different transgenic tau mouse models:
ThyTau22 and P301S. Surprisingly, these two models showed important differences
in the microglial profile and tau pathology. Where ThyTau22 hippocampus manifested
mild microglial activation, P301S mice exhibited a strong microglial response in parallel
with high phospho-tau accumulation. This differential phospho-tau expression could
account for the different microglial response in these two tau strains. However, soluble
(S1) fractions from ThyTau22 hippocampus presented relatively high content of soluble
phospho-tau (AT8-positive) and were highly toxic for microglial cells in vitro, whereas
the correspondent S1 fractions from P301S mice displayed low soluble phosphotau
levels and were not toxic for microglial cells. Therefore, not only the expression
levels but the aggregation of phospho-tau should differ between both models. In fact,
most of tau forms in the P301S mice were aggregated and, in consequence, forming
insoluble tau species. We conclude that different factors as tau mutations, accumulation,
phosphorylation, and/or aggregation could account for the distinct microglial responses
observed in these two tau models. For this reason, deciphering the molecular nature of
toxic tau species for microglial cells might be a promising therapeutic approach in order
to restore the deficient immunological protection observed in AD hippocampus.CIBERNEDJunta de Andalucía. Rural women and social participation: analyzing women's associations in the province of Granada (Spain)
Here we analyze their scope and
characteristics in the province of Granada, we examine their objectives and activities, as well as the profiles
and motivations of their partners. The research is based on a survey administered to representatives of these
associations along with focus groups. These partnerships constitute a consolidated local actor, a guide able
to channel diverse interests and collective actions, which operates as participation hubs and that promotes
empowerment of rural women. They also constitute an important source of welfare, mutual support and
social capital that compensates the scarce resources of the population involved. However, financial and
structural barriers as well as problems getting used to the new technologies limit their operation.

High temperature internal friction in a Ti–46Al–1Mo–0.2Si intermetallic, comparison with creep behaviour
Advanced gamma-TiAl based intermetallics Mo-bearing have been developed to obtain the fine-grained microstructure required for superplastic deformation to be used during further processing. In the present work we have studied an alloy of Ti-46.8Al-1Mo-0.2Si (at%) with two different microstructures, ascast material with a coarse grain size above 300 mu m, and the hot extruded material exhibiting a grain size smaller than 20 mu m. We have used a mechanical spectrometer especially developed for high temperature internal friction measurements to study the defect mobility processes taking place at high temperature. The internal friction spectra at different frequencies has been studied and analyzed up to 1360 K in order to characterize the relaxation processes appearing in this temperature range. A relaxation peak, with a maximum in between 900 K and 1080 K, depending on the oscillating frequency, has been attributed to Ti-atoms diffusion by the stress-induced reorientation of Al-V-Ti-Al elastic dipoles. The high temperature background in both microstructural states, as-cast and extruded, has been analyzed, measuring the apparent activation parameters, in particular the apparent energies of E-cast(IF) = 4.4 +/- 0.05 eV and E-ext(IF) = 4.75 +/- 0.05 eV respectively. These results have been compared to those obtained on the same materials by creep deformation. We may conclude that the activation parameters obtained by internal friction analysis, are consistent with the ones measured by creep. Furthermore, the analysis of the high temperature background allows establish the difference on creep resistance for both microstructural states. (c) 2015 Acta Materialia Inc. Circulating immune biomarkers in peripheral blood correlate with clinical outcomes in advanced breast cancer
Identification of the different elements intervening at the tumor microenvironment seems key to explain clinical evolution in several tumor types. In this study, a set of immune biomarkers (myeloid derived suppressor cells, regulatory T cells, and OX40 + and PD-1 + T lymphocytes counts) in peripheral blood of patients diagnosed with advanced breast cancer were analyzed along of first line antineoplastic therapy. Subsequently, a comparison between groups with clinical benefit versus progression of disease and with a healthy women cohort was executed. Results reflected that patients showed higher basal levels of myeloid derived suppressor cells (35.43, IR = 180.73 vs 17.53, IR = 16.96 cells/μl; p = 0.001) and regulatory T cells (32.05, IR = 29.84 vs 22.61, IR = 13.57 cells/μl; p = 0.001) in comparison with healthy women. Furthermore, an increase in the number of activated T lymphocytes (expressing OX40), a decrease of immune inhibitory cells (MDSCs and Tregs) and inhibited T lymphocytes (expressing PD-1) were observed along the treatment in patients with clinical benefit (p ≤ 0.001). The opposite trend was observed in the case of disease progression. These findings suggest that some critical immune elements can be easily detected and measured in peripheral blood, which open a new opportunity for translational research, as they seem to be correlated with clinical evolution, at least in ABC.Fundación Progreso y Salud.
