Design, FEM strength analysis and testing of an innovative mountain bike pedal with magnetic locking mechanism

The presentation describes the development of a new mountain bicycle pedal with a special magnetic safety locking mechanism by means of the finite element method (FEM). It starts with a description of the predecessor mountain bike pedal “Enduro” from magped GmbH and sets out the development objectives for the new pedal named “Enduro2”. The complete development activities like load determination and load assumptions, FEM analysis of the initial draft, subsequent optimization steps for strength improvement and mass reduction, bearing design and analysis, and prototype testing are described. The presentation ends with a chapter about creating computer generated images for marketing material of the pedal. The presentation is structured as follows: 1. Visiones del desierto en perspectiva de los pastores de los valles Calchaquíes: un ensayo de Etnografía Visual sobre la abundancia en los escenarios para la vida del Noroeste Argentino.

La idea del “desierto” en estrecho vínculo con los ambientes áridos que caracterizan buena parte del área andina en el Noroeste argentino, se encuentra profundamente arraigada a tradiciones de pensamiento que, desde los orígenes del Estado Nacional, aparecen como rasgo colonizador en los discursos justificadores acerca de la incorporación de territorios para fines productivos. La idea de escasez y vacío como elementos constitutivos de estos discursos resultan muy efectivas a la hora de invisibilizar a las comunidades indígenas que en muchos casos habitan estos lugares, su modo de vida y su composición de mundo. Using an empirical model of human turning motion to aid heading estimation in a personal navigation system

The state-of-the-art Personal Navigation System is a unit that fuses information based on external references with a low cost IMU. Due to the size, weight, power, and cost constraints imposed on a pedestrian navigation systems as well as current IMU performance limitations, the gyroscopes used to determine heading exhibit significant drift limiting the performance of the navigation system. In this thesis biomechanical signals are used to predict the onset of pedestrian turning motion. Experimental data from eight subjects captured in a gait laboratory using a Vicon motion tracking unit is used for validation. The analysis of experimental data shows the heading computed by turn prediction augmented integration is more accurate than open loop gyro integration alone

Manual de procedimentos para registro fotográfico das coleções da Divisão de Arqueologia do Museu de La Plata

This paper aims to provide a guide to carry out the procedures involved in the photographic recording of the Archaeology Division collections in the Museum of La Plata (National University of La Plata, Argentina). It details the guidelines and general parameters for the correct development of this activity, aiming at previously trained and/or informed personnel, in order to guarantee the quality of the results. Likewise, this manual has the character of a protocol, aiming to standardize the formal norms that the images obtained must comply with, according to the requirements implied by the contribution to an institutional repository and for public consultation.El presente trabajo apunta a proporcionar una guía para llevar a cabo los procedimientos implicados en el registro fotográfico de las colecciones de la División de Arqueología del Museo de La Plata (Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina). En el mismo se detallan las pautas y parámetros generales para el correcto desarrollo de dicha actividad, apuntando a personal previamente capacitado y/o informado, de forma tal de garantizar la calidad de los resultados. Asimismo, este manual posee carácter de protocolo, apuntando a estandarizar las normas formales que deben cumplir las imágenes obtenidas, en función de los requerimientos que implica la contribución a un repositorio institucional y su consulta pública. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo fornecer um guia para a realização dos procedimentos envolvidos no registro fotográfico das coleções da Divisão de Arqueologia do Museu de La Plata (Universidade Nacional de La Plata, Argentina). Detalha as diretrizes e parâmetros gerais para o correto desenvolvimento da referida atividade, voltado a pessoal previamente treinado e/ou informado, a fim de garantir a qualidade dos resultados. Da mesma forma, este manual tem o carácter de um protocolo, visando uniformizar as regras formais que as imagens obtidas devem cumprir, com base nos requisitos implícitos à contribuição para um repositório institucional e sua consulta pública

Las corridas de ganado en Molinos: una propuesta de Etnografía Visual sobre la trashumancia de ganado en los Valles Calchaquíes Septentrionales, Salta, Argentina

El presente trabajo constituye una aproximación preliminar al estudio de la actividad de las corridas de ganado en el Departamento de Molinos en los Valles Calchaquíes septentrionales, Salta, Argentina. Se toma como caso el evento de la “separada” de animales, que es la culminación del gran evento de la “corrida”, el cual consta de un desarrollo secuenciado y pautado, de alcance temporal y espacial en la región. Se intenta realizar un aporte al estudio de las estrategias de manejo del ambiente en los Valles Calchaquíes salteños septentrionales, a través del caso de las corridas de ganado en Molinos. Al mismo tiempo buscamos testear la aplicabilidad y eficacia de la metodología de la etnografía visual para el estudio de las relaciones hombre – medio, y sus implicancias en la percepción, manejo y movilidad de estas comunidades en su entorno natural y social.Palabras-clave: Manejo de ganado. We take as a case of study the event of "separada" of animals, which is the culmination of the great event of the "corrida", which consists of a sequenced development with wide temporal and spatial range in the region. Our proposal tries to make a contribution to the study of environmental management strategies in northern Salta Calchaquí Valleys, through the case of cattle management in Molinos. Contributions of remote sensing and GIS to the archaeological study of animal husbandry at the Northern Calchaquí valley (Cachi, Salta, Argentina)

Este trabajo apunta a analizar diversos aspectos materiales que contribuyen a dar forma al paisaje arqueológico en el Valle Calchaquí Norte (Dto. de Cachi, Salta, Argentina). Este objetivo se enmarca en una investigación etnográfica y arqueológica en curso, en la cual se aborda el pastoreo en los valles, sus estrategias de movilidad asociadas, como así también otros aspectos espaciales y sus vínculos con la actividad agrícola. A través de la teledetección y la aplicación de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG), el presente artículo busca explorar y analizar la presencia, la distribución y las relaciones espaciales de estructuras que estarían presumiblemente asociadas a las actividades de cría/manejo de animales, así como aquellas asociadas a la actividad agrícola en el área. Se asume una perspectiva basada en la propuesta teórica de Ingold, para abordar la cuestión espacial a través de la noción de taskscape, y se discute la adecuación del concepto de agro-pastoralismo para el abordaje de los fenómenos observados en la región junto a sus correlatos espaciales y materiales. Por último, se plantean vías de indagación futuras acerca de su temporalidad.This work aims to analyze several material aspects that shape the archaeological landscape in the North Calchaquí Valley (Cachi Department, Salta, Argentina). This goal is part of an ongoing ethnographic and archaeological research about cattle grazing in the valleys, its associated mobility strategies, among other spatial patterns and their links with agricultural activity. Through remote sensing and the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), this article seeks to explore and analyze the presence, distribution and spatial relationships of structures that would presumably be associated with animal husbandry activities, as well as those associated with agricultural activity in the area. A perspective based on Ingold's theoretical proposal is assumed to approach the spatial question through the notion of taskscape. Similarly, the adequacy of the concept of agro-pastoralism is discussed to address the phenomena observed in the region and their spatial and material correlates.
