    Photonuclear Reactions of Three-Nucleon Systems

    We discuss the available data for the differential and the total cross section for the photodisintegration of 3^3He and 3^3H and the corresponding inverse reactions below EÎł=100E_\gamma = 100 MeV by comparing with our calculations using realistic NNNN interactions. The theoretical results agree within the errorbars with the data for the total cross sections. Excellent agreement is achieved for the angular distribution in case of 3^3He, whereas for 3^3H a discrepancy between theory and experiment is found.Comment: 11 pages (twocolumn), 12 postscript figures included, uses psfig, RevTe

    Two-proton small-angle correlations in central heavy-ion collisions: a beam-energy and system-size dependent study

    Small-angle correlations of pairs of protons emitted in central collisions of Ca + Ca, Ru + Ru and Au + Au at beam energies from 400 to 1500 MeV per nucleon are investigated with the FOPI detector system at SIS/GSI Darmstadt. Dependences on system size and beam energy are presented which extend the experimental data basis of pp correlations in the SIS energy range substantially. The size of the proton-emitting source is estimated by comparing the experimental data with the output of a final-state interaction model which utilizes either static Gaussian sources or the one-body phase-space distribution of protons provided by the BUU transport approach. The trends in the experimental data, i.e. system-size and beam energy dependences, are well reproduced by this hybrid model. However, the pp correlation function is found rather insensitive to the stiffness of the equation of state entering the transport model calculations.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, accepted at Eur.     Stopping and Radial Flow in Central 58Ni + 58Ni Collisions between 1 and 2 AGeV

    The production of charged pions, protons and deuterons has been studied in central collisions of 58Ni on 58Ni at incident beam energies of 1.06, 1.45 and 1.93 AGeV. The dependence of transverse-momentum and rapidity spectra on the beam energy and on the centrality of the collison is presented. It is shown that the scaling of the mean rapidity shift of protons established for AGS and SPS energies is valid down to 1 AGeV. The degree of nuclear stopping is discussed; the IQMD transport model reproduces the measured proton rapidity spectra for the most central events reasonably well, but does not show any sensitivity between the soft and the hard equation of state (EoS). A radial flow analysis, using the midrapidity transverse-momentum spectra, delivers freeze-out temperatures T and radial flow velocities beta_r which increase with beam energy up to 2 AGeV; in comparison to existing data of Au on Au over a large range of energies only beta_r shows a system size dependence

    Isospin-tracing: A probe of non-equilibrium in central heavy-ion collisions

    Four different combinations of 4496^{96}_{44}Ru and 4096^{96}_{40}Zr nuclei, both as projectile and target, were investigated at the same bombarding energy of 400AA MeV using a 4Ď€4 \pi detector. The degree of isospin mixing between projectile and target nucleons is mapped across a large portion of the phase space using two different isospin-tracer observables, the number of measured protons and the t/3He{\rm t}/^{3}{\rm He} yield ratio. The experimental results show that the global equilibrium is not reached even in the most central collisions. Quantitative measures of stopping and mixing are extracted from the data. They are found to exhibit a quite strong sensitivity to the in-medium (n,n) cross section used in microscopic transport calculations.Comment: 4 pages RevTeX, 3 figures (ps files), submitted to Phys.     K^+ production in the reaction 58Ni+58Ni^{58}Ni+^{58}Ni at incident energies from 1 to 2 AGeV

    Semi-inclusive triple differential multiplicity distributions of positively charged kaons have been measured over a wide range in rapidity and transverse mass for central collisions of 58^{58}Ni with 58^{58}Ni nuclei. The transverse mass (mtm_t) spectra have been studied as a function of rapidity at a beam energy 1.93 AGeV. The mtm_t distributions of K^+ mesons are well described by a single Boltzmann-type function. The spectral slopes are similar to that of the protons indicating that rescattering plays a significant role in the propagation of the kaon. Multiplicity densities have been obtained as a function of rapidity by extrapolating the Boltzmann-type fits to the measured distributions over the remaining phase space. The total K^+ meson yield has been determined at beam energies of 1.06, 1.45, and 1.93 AGeV, and is presented in comparison to existing data. The low total yield indicates that the K^+ meson can not be explained within a hadro-chemical equilibrium scenario, therefore indicating that the yield does remain sensitive to effects related to its production processes such as the equation of state of nuclear matter and/or modifications to the K^+ dispersion relation.Comment: 24 pages Latex (elsart) 7 PS figures to be submitted to Nucl.     Central Collisions of Au on Au at 150, 250 and 400 A MeV

    Collisions of Au on Au at incident energies of 150, 250 and 400 A MeV were studied with the FOPI-facility at GSI Darmstadt. Nuclear charge (Z < 16) and velocity of the products were detected with full azimuthal acceptance at laboratory angles of 1-30 degrees. Isotope separated light charged particles were measured with movable multiple telescopes in an angular range of 6-90 degrees. Central collisions representing about 1 % of the reaction cross section were selected by requiring high total transverse energy, but vanishing sideflow. The velocity space distributions and yields of the emitted fragments are reported. The data are analysed in terms of a thermal model including radial flow.     Azimuthal asymmetry of neutral pion emission in Au+Au reactions at 1 GeV/nucleon

    International audienceThe azimuthal angle distributions of neutral pions at midrapidity from Au+Au reactions at 1 GeV/nucleon incident energy have been measured. An enhanced emission of π0's perpendicular to the reaction plane is observed. The azimuthal asymmetry is dependent on the π0 momentum: the π0 spectrum perpendicular to the reaction plane is harder than in the reaction plane. The strength of the observed asymmetry appears to be more pronounced for π0 than for charged particles and neutrons
