A theoretical analysis of concast slab rolling on the breakdown stand of a double-stand plate rolling mill has been carried out in the study. The theoretical analysis has made it possible to determine the effect of the angle of strip feeding to the rolls on the distribution of stresses within the roll gap during strip rolling. The theoretical analysis of the rolling process was performed by using the commercial software package Forge 2 developed at Ecole des Mines in Paris. This package operates based on FEM and uses a flat, rigid-plastic model of the deformed medium. The theoretical analysis was conducted based on the conditions of plate rolling on roughing mill 3600 of the double-stand plate rolling mill at the Częstochowa Steelworks.U ovoj studiji je napravljena teorijska analiza valjanja kontinuirano lijevanog slaba na predstanu duo-stana valjaonice limova.

    Get PDF
The paper presents a new type of cross-section for truss elements in an offshore construction's sub structure framework. By combining modern materials, such as ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) and carbon fibre reinforced polymers in a hollow section, significant weight savings compared to conventional steel structures can be achieved. An extensive experimental programme has been carried out in order to describe the construction's load-bearing behaviour. The article presents an overview of the development process of the design, the methodological implementation of the experimental investigations and the results

In the paper the results of a computer simulation of the drawing process of steel wires for a prestressed concrete have been presented with FEM software (Forge 2). Dies with a different die angle 2 = 8°, 12° and 18° were used in the drawing process of a DB92 steel wire rod with 5,5 mm in diameter (according to Polish Standards) in five passes for final wires with 2,5 mm in diameter. After every pass mechanical properties and draw stresses were determined.U radu su prikazani rezultati kompjuterske simulacije procesa izvlačenja čeličnih žica za prenapregnuti beton.

Cold‐pool‐driven convective initiation: using causal graph analysis to determine what convection‐permitting models are missing

    Get PDF
Cold‐pool‐driven convective initiation is investigated in high‐resolution, convection‐permitting simulations with a focus on the diurnal cycle and organization of convection and the sensitivity to grid size. Simulations of four different days over Germany were performed using the ICON‐LEM model with grid sizes from 156 to 625 m. In these simulations, we identify cold pools, cold‐pool boundaries and initiated convection. Convection is triggered much more efficiently in the vicinity of cold pools than in other regions and can provide as much as 50% of total convective initiation, in particular in the late afternoon. By comparing different model resolutions, we find that cold pools are more frequent, smaller and less intense in lower‐resolution simulations. Furthermore, their gust fronts are weaker and less likely to trigger new convection. To identify how model resolution affects this triggering probability, we use a linear causal graph analysis. In doing so, we postulate a graph structure with potential causal pathways and then apply multi‐linear regression accordingly. We find a dominant, systematic effect: reducing grid sizes directly reduces upward mass flux at the gust front, which causes weaker triggering probabilities. These findings are expected to be even more relevant for km‐scale, numerical weather prediction models. We thus expect that a better representation of cold‐pool‐driven convective initiation will improve forecasts of convective precipitation

This study investigated the relationships between autistic masking and depression, anxiety, gender identity, sexual orientation, social trauma, self-esteem, authenticity, and autistic community involvement. Participants were autistic adults (n=342) recruited through autistic social media groups. The majority of participants (63%) reported being members of sexual minorities. The study found higher self-reported autistic masking behaviors were associated with higher reports of past social trauma (p \u3c .001, b = .26), greater anxiety (p \u3c .001, b = .37) and depression symptoms (p \u3c .001, b = .312), lower self-esteem (p \u3c .001, b = -.25), lower authentic living (p = .005, b = -.16), greater accepting of external influence (p \u3c .001, b= .33), higher self-alienation (p \u3c .001, b = .26), and lower participation within the autistic community (p \u3c .001, b = -.19). Autistic masking was not found to be associated with gender identity or sexual orientation. Participants who reported involvement in previous ABA therapy reported higher past social trauma than participants involved in some other forms of therapy such as cognitive behavior therapy

Correlations between selected parameters of nasal cavity in neonates and young infants — computed tomography study

Background: Correlations between selected metric parameters of the nasal cavity and nasopharynx in children without atresia may be useful for anticipating probable dimensions of this region in living subjects, in terms of changes with age. Materials and methods: One hundred and eighty children, age range 0–3 years, were divided into five age groups, and measurements of 18 distances between structures of nasal cavity and nosopharynx were performed on computed tomography scans. Correlation coefficients and relations between parameters have been determined. Results: Our study confirmed the existence of statistically significant correlations between linear dimensions within nasal cavity in children. The analysis demonstrated that for the values of following indexes: nasal septum length/piriform aperture width, and maximum length of the nasal septum/posterior nares width no statistically significant differences have been noted between age groups of children. All correlations have been positive. No statistically significant differences have been noted between the maximum width of the vomer and osseous parameters measured, both in the anterior and posterior part of the nasal cavity, and nasal septum length. Conclusions: The size of posterior nares changed with age in children by a constant value. So far, no such an analysis has been carried out assessing potential correlations between linear dimensions for the entire nasal cavity, nasopharynx, length of the nasal septum in children, as well as proportions of individual linear dimensions of the anatomical structures analysed, in various age groups

An analysis of asymmetrical band rolling in the last two stands of a finishing sheet hot rolling mill has been performed in the study. Investigations were carried out to determine the range of values of roll peripheral speed asymmetry ratios which would assure the permissible bending of band upon its exit from the roll gap and to reduce the value of the overall metal pressure on the rolls without causing overloading of the drives of the finishing group of the continuous sheet rolling mill. The application of asymmetrical rolling on the last two stands has made it possible to reduce deviations in band thickness, decrease the minimum thickness of finished sheet from 2.00 mm to 1.80 mm and increase the width of sheets produced in the thickness range from 1.80 - 2.00 mm to above 925 mm.U ovom radu je provedena analiza asimetričnog valjanja trake na prolazu kroz dva zadnja stana završne pruge za toplo valjanje limova.

Assessing New England Family Forest Owners\u27 Invasive Insect Awareness

    Get PDF
Family forest owners in the United States have underscored the need for forest insect pest (FIP) information, and numerous Extension programs have been developed to meet pest information needs. We developed the Pest Awareness Index to illustrate the heterogeneity of familiarity, knowledge, and experience regarding three FIPs (hemlock woolly adelgid, emerald ash borer, Asian long-horned beetle) in four New England states. Using mail survey data of family forest owners, we calculated an index from three components and provided comparisons based on region and actual insect presence. The differences in the index across these domains have implications for measurement and delivery of Extension programs
