Dry sliding wear behaviour of powder metallurgy Al-Mg-Si alloy-MoSi2 composites and the relationship with the microstructure
The effect of the microstructure on the dry sliding wear of six aluminium alloy 6061 matrix composites reinforced with 15vol.% of MoSi2 particles and two monolithic 6061 alloys processed by powder metallurgy with and without ball milling has been studied. Wear testing was undertaken using pin-on-ring configuration against an M2 steel counterface at 0.94m/s and normal load of 42, 91 and 140N. The wear resistance of the aluminium alloys was significantly improved by ball milling and the addition of reinforcing MoSi2 particles due to a more stable and more homogeneous microstructure, which avoids the detachment of the mechanically mixed layer. Wear rate of materials in T6 decreases as solutionized hardness of the materials increases. This behaviour is rationalized by taking into account the precipitation state of the matrix. In addition, wear rate follows a Hall-Petch type relationship, showing that the reduction of matrix grain size plays an important role in the increase in the wear resistance of the composites. The results indicate that the present intermetallic reinforced composites can be considered potential substitutes for ceramic reinforced aluminium alloys in tribological applications. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.Peer Reviewe
Estudio de la idoneidad de un nuevo hormigón estructural fabricado con áridos ligeros reforzados con fibra de carbono sinterizados a partir de residuos
The suitability of three new lightweight aggregates containing carbon fiber residues (CAs) as components in structural lightweight concrete has been studied. Prismatic concrete specimens were prepared using these CAs as a coarse fraction. Additional specimens of normal-weight aggregate, commercial lightweight aggregate and mortar were prepared for comparison. The CA-concrete samples (CACs) have yielded compressive strength values between 35 and 55 MPa as well as low density and thermal conductivity results. Furthermore, the CACs have displayed the highest ratios of mechanical strength over density and the thermal conductivity, which means that there is a better balance between their mechanical and physical properties than in the other samples studied. These results indicate that the new CAs could have great potential for use in structural lightweight concrete, also complying with the principles of the Circular Economy.Este estudio pretende comprobar la idoneidad de unos novedosos áridos ligeros sinterizados con residuos de fibra de carbono (CAs) en la fabricación de hormigón ligero estructural. Se prepararon probetas prismáticas de hormigón, utilizando estos CAs como fracción gruesa, comparándose a su vez con probetas fabricadas con un árido convencional, un árido ligero comercial y mortero. Las muestras de hormigón con los áridos CA (en adelante CAC) han dado lugar a valores de resistencia a compresión entre 35 y 55 MPa, asà como a resultados bajos de densidad y conductividad térmica, mostrando además las ratios más altas al relacionar estos tres parámetros. Esto indicarÃa por tanto un mejor equilibrio entre las propiedades mecánicas y fÃsicas que los obtenidos en las otras muestras estudiadas. Estos resultados apuntan a que los nuevos CAs podrÃan tener un gran potencial para su uso en hormigón ligero estructural, cumpliendo además los principios de la EconomÃa Circular

Se analiza la investigación sobre organización del conocimiento en España de 2002 a 2010. Para ello,
se han extraÃdo los registros de bases de datos nacionales e internacionales: LISA, WOS y Dialnet, Los
resultados muestran una consolidación de la especialidad y crecimiento del número de publicaciones
con respecto a la década anterior, junto con un apreciable incremento del número de autores que son
mayoritariamente hombres aunque la brecha de género no es muy grande. Se observa igualmente una
notable internacionalización de las publicaciones[Abstract]
The study analyzes Spanish research on knowledge organization from 2002 to 2010. To get the scientific
publications international and national data based were interrogated. After getting the pertinent records,
they were normalized and processed according to the usual bibliometric procedure. The results point to
a mature specialty and to an increase in publications in comparison to the precedent decade. There is a
remarkable increase of authors per publication who are more men than women, although the gender lap is
not big. It is also evident that there is a remarkable internationalization in publications
Robust Tracking of Bio-Inspired References for a Biped Robot Using Geometric Algebra and Sliding Mode Control
Controlling walking biped robots is a challenging problem due to its complex and uncertain dynamics. In order to tackle this, we propose a sliding mode controller based on a dynamic model which was obtained using the conformal geometric algebra approach (CGA). The CGA framework permits us to use lines, points, and other geometric entities, to obtain the Lagrange equations of the system. The references for the joints of the robot were bio-inspired in the kinematics of a walking human body. The first and second derivatives of the reference signal were obtained through an exact robust differentiator based on high order sliding mode. The performance of the proposed control schemes are illustrated through simulation.ITESO, A.C
Intensity-based image registration using multiple distributed agents
Image registration is the process of geometrically aligning images taken from different sensors, viewpoints or instances in time. It plays a key role in the detection of defects or anomalies for automated visual inspection. A multiagent distributed blackboard system has been developed for intensity-based image registration. The images are divided into segments and allocated to agents on separate processors, allowing parallel computation of a similarity metric that measures the degree of likeness between reference and sensed images after the application of a transform. The need for a dedicated control module is removed by coordination of agents via the blackboard. Tests show that additional agents increase speed, provided the communication capacity of the blackboard is not saturated. The success of the approach in achieving registration, despite significant misalignment of the original images, is demonstrated in the detection of manufacturing defects on screen-printed plastic bottles and printed circuit boards

Challenges of micro/mild hybridisation for construction machinery and applicability in UK
In recent years, micro/mild hybridisation (MMH) is known as a feasible solution for powertrain development with high fuel efficiency, less energy use and emission and, especially, low cost and simple installation. This paper focuses on the challenges of MMH for construction machines and then, pays attention to its applicability to UK construction machinery.
First, hybrid electric configurations are briefly reviewed; and technological challenges towards MMH in construction sector are clearly stated. Second, the current development of construction machinery in UK is analysed to point out the potential for MMH implementation. Thousands of machines manufactured in UK have been sampled for the further study. Third, a methodology for big data capturing, compression and mining is provided for a capable of managing and analysing effectively performances of various construction machine types. By using this method, 96% of data memory can be reduced to store the huge machine data without lacking the necessary information. Forth, an advanced decision tool is built using a fuzzy cognitive map based on the big data mining and knowledge from experts to enables users to define a target machine for MMH utilization. The numerical study with this tool on the sampled machines has been done and finally realized that one class of heavy excavators is the most suitable to apply MMH technology
The Ncoa7 locus regulates V-ATPase formation and function, neurodevelopment and behaviour
Members of the Tre2/Bub2/Cdc16 (TBC), lysin motif (LysM), domain catalytic (TLDc) protein family are associated with multiple neurodevelopmental disorders, although their exact roles in disease remain unclear. For example, nuclear receptor coactivator 7 (NCOA7) has been associated with autism, although almost nothing is known regarding the mode-of-action of this TLDc protein in the nervous system. Here we investigated the molecular function of NCOA7 in neurons and generated a novel mouse model to determine the consequences of deleting this locus in vivo. We show that NCOA7 interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of the vacuolar (V)-ATPase in the brain and demonstrate that this protein is required for normal assembly and activity of this critical proton pump. Neurons lacking Ncoa7 exhibit altered development alongside defective lysosomal formation and function; accordingly, Ncoa7 deletion animals exhibited abnormal neuronal patterning defects and a reduced expression of lysosomal markers. Furthermore, behavioural assessment revealed anxiety and social defects in mice lacking Ncoa7. In summary, we demonstrate that NCOA7 is an important V-ATPase regulatory protein in the brain, modulating lysosomal function, neuronal connectivity and behaviour; thus our study reveals a molecular mechanism controlling endolysosomal homeostasis that is essential for neurodevelopment
Premiers résultats concernant le site des Jardins de Saint-Benoît (Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, Aude), pôle religieux et funéraire des Corbières
Un projet immobilier est à l’origine de la découverte et de la fouille du site des Jardins de Saint-Benoît à Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse (Aude). Il a livré un vaste cimetière, enserrant les vestiges d’une église à chevet plat. Les sépultures étudiées, de formes et d’architectures variées, témoignent de la longue durée de fonctionnement du pôle funéraire. En effet, celui-ci semble apparaître avant la fin du VIIIe siècle et perdurer jusqu’au bas Moyen Âge, période durant laquelle l’église est presque entièrement démantelée et le cimetière abandonné. La genèse du site souffre de nombreuses lacunes documentaires. Bien qu’il soit fait mention d’une fondation monastique sur le territoire de la commune (Sancti Laurentii), le bâtiment mis au jour pourrait également correspondre à l’église Saint-Benoît ou à un autre édifice cultuel, dont aucune mention ne nous serait parvenue. De même, ses modalités d’abandon demeurent incertaines. On peut toutefois évoquer le rôle éventuel de l’épidémie de peste noire de la seconde moitié du XIVe siècle, qui est la cause attestée du décès de plusieurs individus
