Promoting Social Media Dissemination of Digital Images Through CBR-Based Tag Recommendation
Multimedia content has become an essential tool to share knowledge, sell products or disseminate messages. Some social networks use multimedia content to promote information and create social communities. In order to increase the impact of the digital content, those images or videos are labeled with different words, denominated tags. In this paper, we propose a recommender system which analyzes multimedia content and suggests tags to maximize its influence in the social community. It implements a Case-Based Reasoning architecture (CBR), which allows to learn from previous tagged content. The system has been evaluated through cross fold validation with a training and validation sets carefully constructed and extracted from Instagram. The results demonstrate that the system can suggest good options to label our image and maximize the influence of the multimedia content

Steady-state and transient catalytic oxidation and coupling of methane
This project addresses the conversion of methane from natural gas into ethane, ethylene and higher hydrocarbons. Our research explores the mechanistic and practical implications of carrying out the methane oxidative coupling reaction in reactor designs other than conventional packed-beds with co-fed reactants. These alternate reactor designs are needed to prevent the full oxidation of methane, which limits C{sub 2}, yields in methane oxidative coupling reactions. The research strategy focuses on preventing contact between the 0{sub 2} reactant required for favorable overall thermodynamics and the C{sub 2+} products of methane coupling. The behavior of various reactor designs are simulated using detailed kinetic transport models. These simulations have suggested that the best way to prevent high C0{sub 2} yields is to separate the oxygen and hydrocarbon streams altogether. As a result, the project has focused on the experimental demonstration of proton transport membrane reactors for the selective conversion of methane into higher hydrocarbons
A note on the invariant distribution of a quasi-birth-and-death process
The aim of this paper is to give an explicit formula of the invariant
distribution of a quasi-birth-and-death process in terms of the block entries
of the transition probability matrix using a matrix-valued orthogonal
polynomials approach. We will show that the invariant distribution can be
computed using the squared norms of the corresponding matrix-valued orthogonal
polynomials, no matter if they are or not diagonal matrices. We will give an
example where the squared norms are not diagonal matrices, but nevertheless we
can compute its invariant distribution
Slow Switching in Globally Coupled Oscillators: Robustness and Occurrence through Delayed Coupling
The phenomenon of slow switching in populations of globally coupled
oscillators is discussed. This characteristic collective dynamics, which was
first discovered in a particular class of the phase oscillator model, is a
result of the formation of a heteroclinic loop connecting a pair of clustered
states of the population. We argue that the same behavior can arise in a wider
class of oscillator models with the amplitude degree of freedom. We also argue
how such heteroclinic loops arise inevitably and persist robustly in a
homogeneous population of globally coupled oscillators. Although the
heteroclinic loop might seem to arise only exceptionally, we find that it
appears rather easily by introducing the time-delay in the population which
would otherwise exhibit perfect phase synchrony. We argue that the appearance
of the heteroclinic loop induced by the delayed coupling is then characterized
by transcritical and saddle-node bifurcations. Slow switching arises when the
system with a heteroclinic loop is weakly perturbed. This will be demonstrated
with a vector model by applying weak noises. Other types of weak

Edge Face Recognition System Based on One-Shot Augmented Learning
There is growing concern among users of computer systems about how their data is handled. In this sense, IT (Information Technology) professionals are not unaware of this problem and are looking for solutions to meet the requirements and concerns of their users. During the last few years, various techniques and technologies have emerged that allow us to answer to the problem posed by users. Technologies such as edge computing and techniques such as one-shot learning and data augmentation enable progress in this regard. Thus, in this article, we propose the creation of a system that makes use of these techniques and technologies to solve the problem of face recognition and form a low-cost security system. The results obtained show that the combination of these techniques is effective in most of the face detection algorithms and allows an effective solution to the problem raised
The alpha 7 nicotinic receptor agonist PHA-543613 hydrochloride inhibits <i>Porphyromonas gingivalis</i>-induced expression of interleukin-8 by oral keratinocytes
Objective:
The alpha 7 nicotinic receptor (α7nAChR) is expressed by oral keratinocytes. α7nAChR activation mediates anti-inflammatory responses. The objective of this study was to determine if α7nAChR activation inhibited pathogen-induced interleukin-8 (IL-8) expression by oral keratinocytes.<p></p>
Materials and methods:
Periodontal tissue expression of α7nAChR was determined by real-time PCR. OKF6/TERT-2 oral keratinocytes were exposed to <i>Porphyromonas gingivalis</i> in the presence and absence of a α7nAChR agonist (PHA-543613 hydrochloride) alone or after pre-exposure to a specific α7nAChR antagonist (α-bungarotoxin). Interleukin-8 (IL-8) expression was measured by ELISA and real-time PCR. Phosphorylation of the NF-κB p65 subunit was determined using an NF-κB p65 profiler assay and STAT-3 activation by STAT-3 in-cell ELISA. The release of ACh from oral keratinocytes in response to <i>P. gingivalis</i> lipopolysaccharide was determined using a GeneBLAzer M3 CHO-K1-blacell reporter assay.<p></p>
Results:
Expression of α7nAChR mRNA was elevated in diseased periodontal tissue. PHA-543613 hydrochloride inhibited <i>P. Gingivalis</i>-induced expression of IL-8 at the transcriptional level. This effect was abolished when cells were pre-exposed to a specific α7nAChR antagonist, α-bungarotoxin. PHA-543613 hydrochloride downregulated NF-κB signalling through reduced phosphorylation of the NF-κB p65-subunit. In addition, PHA-543613 hydrochloride promoted STAT-3 signalling by maintenance of phosphorylation. Furthermore, oral keratinocytes upregulated ACh release in response to <i>P. Gingivalis</i> lipopolysaccharide.<p></p>
Conclusion:
These data suggest that α7nAChR plays a role in regulating the innate immune responses of oral keratinocytes.<p></p>
Extracellular Vesicles: Decoding a New Language for Cellular Communication in Early Embryonic Development
The blastocyst inner cell mass (ICM) that gives rise to a whole embryo in vivo can be derived and cultured in vitro as embryonic stem cells (ESCs), which retain full developmental potential. ICM cells receive, from diverse sources, complex molecular and spatiotemporal signals that orchestrate the finely-tuned processes associated with embryogenesis. Those instructions come, continuously, from themselves and from surrounding cells, such as those present in the trophectoderm and primitive endoderm (PrE). A key component of the ICM niche are the extracellular vesicles (EVs), produced by distinct cell types, that carry and transfer key molecules that regulate target cells and modulate cell renewal or cell fate. A growing number of studies have demonstrated the extracellular circulation of morphogens, a group of classical regulators of embryo development, are carried by EVs. miRNAs are also an important cargo of the EVs that have been implicated in tissue morphogenesis and have gained special attention due to their ability to regulate protein expression through post-transcriptional modulation, thereby influencing cell phenotype. Nanoinformatics: developing new computing applications for nanomedicine
Nanoinformatics has recently emerged to address the need of computing applications at the nano level. In this regard, the authors have participated in various initiatives to identify its concepts, foundations and challenges. While nanomaterials open up the possibility for developing new devices in many industrial and scientific areas, they also offer breakthrough perspectives for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. In this paper, we analyze the different aspects of nanoinformatics and suggest five research topics to help catalyze new research and development in the area, particularly focused on nanomedicine. We also encompass the use of informatics to further the biological and clinical applications of basic research in nanoscience and nanotechnology, and the related concept of an extended ?nanotype? to coalesce information related to nanoparticles. We suggest how nanoinformatics could accelerate developments in nanomedicine, similarly to what happened with the Human Genome and other -omics projects, on issues like exchanging modeling and simulation methods and tools, linking toxicity information to clinical and personal databases or developing new approaches for scientific ontologies, among many others
