Pattern and configurative discipline: Piet Blom's collective housing (1969-1978)

[EN] The main objective of the article is to identify the design method used by the Dutch architect Piet Blom when designing his collective dwellings between 1969 and 1978. The methodology followed consists of an analysis of the drawings coming from the architect s personal archive guarded in Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam in search of correspondences between the design of certain geometric patterns and that of three of his architectural proposals. The review concentrates on the files of Kasbah residential complex in Hengelo (1969-1974), Het Speelhuis residential complex and meeting centre in Helmond (1972-1977) and Oude Haven residential complex in Rotterdam (1977-1978). The graphic analysis is the basis for an ulterior critical examination of the suitability of encompassing these proposals and constructions within the discipline defined by Aldo van Eyck as a configurative discipline.[ES] El objetivo del artículo es identificar los mecanismos proyectuales empleados por el arquitecto neerlandés Piet Blom en el diseño de sus viviendas colectivas entre 1969 y 1978. La metodología seguida consiste en un análisis de los dibujos procedentes del archivo personal del arquitecto, custodiado en el Het Nieuwe Instituut de Rotterdam, en busca de correspondencias entre el diseño de patrones geométricos y el de tres de sus propuestas arquitectónicas. La revisión se concentra en los expedientes del complejo residencial Kasbah en Hengelo (1969-1974), del centro de reuniones y del complejo residencial Het Speelhuis en Helmond (1972-1977) y del complejo residencial Oude Haven en Rotterdam (1977-1978). Analyse des Frais de Voyage de la DMI Garnier

Ce rapport a pour objectifs d'analyser et d'expliquer les besoins des équipes en termes de déplacements, ainsi que d'élaborer un outil d'aide á la prise de dècisions dans la construction des budgets annuels. Dans un premier temps, il a été pris l'historique des donnèes rècupérés à partir du 1 janvier 2008 afin de connaître les destinations, les tarifs, les frais et la fréquence des missions. A partir de cette base de donnèes nous avons défini une structure de frais associés aux déplacements. Une fois analysés les voyages dans le passé, nous avons élaboré un outil qui a pour objectif construire une tendance. Il aidera à la prise de décisions de la Direction Générale et du Contrôle de Gestion dans la définition du prochain budget.Outgoin

El presente texto trata de analizar la crítica que Antonio Damasio realiza a René Descartes (el error de Descartes) desde el empleo de una racionalidad neurocientífica. Damasio cae en un neurorreduccionismo para combatir la filosofía cartesiana. La crítica de Damasio al dualismo cartesiano olvida el nivel ontológico y epistemológico para abordar exclusivamente la cuestión antropológica. Este texto propone una defensa de Descartes y un rechazo a un dualismo absoluto a partir de la lectura de Las pasiones del alma.The present text tries to analyze the criticism that Antonio Damasio does to René Descartes (the error of Descartes) from the use of a neuroscientific rationality. An approach to Henri Bosco´s poetry —the least known of this author’s genres— through a volume of short compositions, Des Voix des Nuages, des songes ... reveals a naked poetry, free of thematic artifice and apparently marked by stylistic simplicity. His poetry transports us from the tangible nature surrounding the author into his soul. Session-based concurrency: between operational and declarative views

Communication-based software is ubiquitous nowadays. From e-banking to e-shopping, online activities often involve message exchanges between software components. These interactions are often governed by protocols that explicitly describe the sequences of communication actions that should be executed by each component. Crucially, these protocols are not isolated from a program’s context: external conditions such as timing constraints or exceptional events that occur during execution can affect message exchanges. As an additional difficulty, individual components are typically developed in different programming languages. In this setting, certifying that a program conforms to its intended protocols is challenging. A widely studied program verification technique uses behavioral type systems, which exploit abstract representations of these protocols to check that the program executes communication actions as intended. Unfortunately, the abstractions offered by behavioral type systems may neglect the influence that external conditions have on the program. This thesis addresses this issue by considering programming languages with declarative features, in which the governing conditions of the program can be adequately described. Our work develops correct translations between programming languages to show that languages with declarative features can indeed articulate a unified view of communication-based programs. Specifically, these translations demonstrate that the operational features of communication-based programs can be correctly represented by languages with declarative features. An additional contribution is a hybrid language that combines the best of both worlds, enabling the analysis of operational and declarative features in communication-based programs

Forming partnerships with obstetricians & gynecologists: exploring occupational therapy's role in the primary care of women

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) supports the expansion of Occupational Therapy (OT) in primary care (PC), including specialty areas like Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) (AOTA Commission of Education, 2017). The American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG) recommends that physicians utilize an interdisciplinary team to address obesity (ACOG, 2016). However, OT’s role in OB/GYN is undefined and both disciplines are unaware of this role. The hope of this project is to facilitate the integration of OT services into OB/GYN PC teams by defining a role for OTs, increasing OTs’ awareness of this role, and contributing to the tools for OTs in OB/GYN PC. A webinar will be used to increase OT’s awareness because of their convenience, interactivity, and efficacy to increase OT’s knowledge and confidence on a subject (Pittman & Lawdis, 2017).The Ecology of Human Performance (EHP) framework is used to understand the healthcare need. There is an increasing prevalence of overweight/obesity and low rate of physical activity (PA) in women of reproductive age (WRA, 19-39 years) (Flegal, Kruszon-Moran, Carroll, Fryar, & Ogden, 2016; Melton, Bland, Marshall & Bigham, 2016). Therefore, WRA are limited in their performance of health management and maintenance tasks that influence obesity (AOTA, 2014). This is a public health concern because women with obesity and little PA have an increased chance of developing other chronic conditions, having a child with neurodevelopmental conditions and obesity, also social stigma and limited performance of life tasks (Mitchell & Saw, 2015;Saliman Reingold, Jordan, & Amini, 2013). This population relies on OB/GYNs for their PC (Stormo, Mona, Hing, Henderson, & Sawa, 2014). However, OB/GYNs do not routinely treat obesity because of self-reported barriers including lack of time/training and social/weight bias (Lindheim et al., 2017; Smith et al., 2015). Also, OT’s—who are distinctly qualified to address health management and maintenance—are not utilized in OB/GYN PC because of both profession’s decreased awareness of OT’s role. This project proposes that OTs have a distinct role in OB/GYN PC teams by supporting physicians in treating obesity using a context and occupation-based approach, not currently utilized, which impacts WRA and future generations.2019-10-23T00:00:00
