Characterization of wind-blown sediment transport with height in a highly mobile dune (SW Spain)

    Get PDF
The Valdevaqueros dune is located at one of the windiest points of Europe, where the frequent occurrence of strong easterly winds has generated a highly mobile dune. Several rotating cup anemometers in vertical array and a self-designed vertical sand trap, were placed to retain the drift sands at different heights over the surface in order to determine theoretical and actual sand transport rates in the Valdevaqueros dune system. General results show that 90% of the wind-blown sand is transported within the first 20cm above the dune crest surface. Theoretical transport rates based on different empirical formulae were 0.33 to 0.78 times the in-situ sand transport rate detected, which was 2.08·10-2kgm-1s-1 under moderate wind power (mean speed ranging from 8.4 to 17.9ms-1). Analysis of different statistical grain-size parameters helped to understand sand transport distribution at different heights

    Get PDF
Puerto López, part of the Meta River subregion, is one of the areas hardest hit by paramilitary violence, where hundreds of killings, disappearances, displacement, forced recruitment of minors, among other violations of human rights and international humanitarian law occurred. Faced with this situation, following the agreements between paramilitary groups and the Colombian State, and recently with the signing of the Peace Agreement with the FARC, the so-called post-conflict phase begins, which seeks to overcome violence through truth, justice and non-repetition. In the post-conflict period, the society of Puerto López has grouped around cultural organizations such as the Corporation for the Support of Social Development Smiles of Violeta, which propose to overcome the wounds of the war through a model of participatory communication that favours truth and justice, and that builds more lasting and effective channels of reconciliation and recovery of the social fabric, only through of culture and art

Excellence and Quality in Andalusia University Library System

From 1996 onwards, then, the Quality Assessment National Plan and the adoption of its agenda by regional authorities and Universities alike has resulted in a growing acceptance by the Spanish academic community of the challenges and opportunities offered by evaluation and quality assurance activities. Academic librarians have been committed to this culture of quality from the very beginnings and in most cases have being leading the way in their own institutions. General tools like the Evaluation Guide referred to above developed to be applied in administration and services alike were of little use for libraries, so academic libraries have been the first units to develop their own evaluation guides at local and regional levels. University System in Andalusia (Spain) is formed by 10 Universities financed by regional government. The Quality Unit of Andalusia Universities convened in 2000 an Assessment University Libraries Pilot Plan to do a global analysis of the Library System. This Pilot Plan has had three steps: - During 2000-2002, a technical committee to draft a new evaluation guide for academic libraries. Based on the EFQM, because of its growing influence in the evaluation of the public sector and not-for-profit organizations across Europe. During the course of our work we were delighted to see that we concurred basically with the approach taken by LISIM. The Guide is divided into 5 parts, as follows: Analysis and Description of 9 criteria adapted to library scenario, 35 Tables for data collection, a set of 30 quality and performance Indicators, a Excellence-rating matrix, an objective tool, to determine the level of excellence achieved by the library on a scale from 0 to 10, and General guidelines for the Assessment Committees of University Departments (the basic unit of research assessment undertaken by the University) and of degree courses (the basic unit of assessment of teaching personnel). - In 2002-2004, a coordination committee drove the assessment process of 9 libraries and tested materials and evaluation methodology. The Pilot Plan has finalised with External Evaluation for 5 External Committee formed by librarians, faculties and EFQM methodology specialist. The aim of this paper is explain different parts and strong points of this process and how EFQM is suitable for all kind of librarie

The increase in crime and homicide multiplication performed by the various mafias throughout the country brought changes in the form and manner through which diffuses and organizes the information issued by the press. In the Mexican reality, the “narco messages” today represent a form through which organized crime reports and instills panic among the population at patenting their power and territorial projects, slander and threatens the state, sovereign Constituted and, incidentally, terrifies opposing groups with texts written by them and legacies of dozens of bodies of men and women killed. This paper analyzes the news about public safety issues in major newspapers in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, among which , the “narco – messages” are part of the

Homogeneous Metal-Based Catalysis in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide as Reaction Medium

    Get PDF
Above 31.1 degrees C and 73.8 bar, carbon dioxide reaches the supercritical state, being transformed into a fluid (scCO(2)) that has attracted interest in the last few decades as reaction medium for several transition-metal-catalyzed organic transformations. The main feature of this fluid rests on its capability to dissolve large amounts of other gases such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, ethylene, or even methane and light alkanes. In this manner, very high concentrations of these reactants are available for catalysis. In this contribution a review of the main achievements of the use of transition-metal complexes as catalysts in scCO(2) is presented.Support for this work was provided by the MINECO (CTQ2014-52769-CO3-1-R and CTQ2014-52769-CO3-2-R) and the Junta de Andalucia (P10-FQM-06292).
