La utopía de forjar una sola raza para la nación. Mestizaje, indigenismo e hispanofilia en el México posrevolucionario

This article studies different projects for the construction of Nation during postrevolutionary Mexico, which attempted to establish a single race in order to ensure a promising future for the Nation. We will examine the racial ideas of three of the most important intellectuals of this time, as well as the official discourse with which the State demostrated what was the “mexican race”. We use the category “utopia” in the study, in defining a project set in the future that emerges from the criticism and necessity to overcome the problems of the present through radical transformation. This method is considered pertinent, due to the fact that the racial debates examined had a special interest in the future, proposing different paths to reconstruct the nation. Finally, we make a balance between the long-term success or failure of the pairing of race and nation in Mexico.Este artículo estudia distintos proyectos de construcción nacional que durante el México posrevolucionario propusieron forjar una sola raza para asegurar un prometedor porvenir de la nación. Se abordan las ideas raciales de tres de los intelectuales que más destacaron en este ámbito, así como el discurso oficial con cual el Estado mostraba cuál era la “raza mexicana”. En el estudio se utiliza la categoría “utopía”, entendida como todo proyecto a futuro que surge de la crítica y necesidad de superar los problemas del presente mediante una transformación radical. Se considera pertinente este método, pues los debates raciales estudiados tuvieron especial interés en el futuro, proponiendo distintos caminos para reconstruir la nación. Finalmente, se realiza un balance sobre el éxito o fracaso que a largo plazo ha tenido el binomio de raza y nación en México

El discurso patriótico y el aparato propagandístico que sustentaron a la expropiación petrolera durante el cardenismo

ResumenEl artículo demuestra que una vez decretada la expropiación de la industria petrolera, el gobierno presidencial de Lázaro Cárdenas recurrió al despliegue de un discurso patriótico y un aparato propagandístico como estrategias para movilizar a la población en favor de dicha medida. Por ende, el estudio se aleja de la idea de que la expropiación haya gozado de un respaldo popular totalmente espontáneo, pues dicha movilización en buena medida fue promovida y dirigida por el gobierno cardenista desde 1938 y hasta el final del sexenio. Asimismo, se busca ahondar en el momento en que se comenzó a vincular el petróleo con la identidad nacional de los mexicanos.AbstractThis article shows that once that Lázaro Cárdenas’ government ordered the oil industry's expropriation, it turns to disseminate a patriotic speech and propaganda as strategies to mobilize the population on supporting this action. Therefore this article moves away from the idea in which the expropriation had only a spontaneous social support. It shows that the mobilization was promoted and leaded by the State since 1938 until 1940, when Cárdenas’ government ended. Also, the arguments deepen the beginning of the bond between the oil and the national identity from Mexicans

Pharmacokinetics of cefazolin for prophylactic administration to dogs

RenbergOBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study reported here was to evaluate pharmacokinetics of cefazolin in dogs receiving a single IV injection of cefazolin (22 mg/kg) and dogs receiving simultaneous IV and IM injections of cefazolin (total dose, 44 mg/kg). METHODS: Twelve purpose-bred Beagles (6/group) were assigned to receive a single injection of cefazolin (22 mg/kg, IV) or simultaneous injections (22 mg/kg, IV, and 22 mg/kg, IM). Interstitial fluid was collected over a 5-hour period using ultrafiltration probes for pharmacokinetic analysis. RESULTS: Mean cefazolin concentration in the interstitial fluid at 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours after injection was 39.6, 29.1, 21.1, 10.3, 6.4, and 2.7 μg/mL, respectively, for the IV group and 38.3, 53.3, 46.4, 31.7, 19.1, and 8.9 μg/mL, respectively, for the IV + IM group. The mean area under the concentration-time curve extrapolated to infinity, maximum concentration, half life and time to the maximum concentration was 74.99 and 154.16 h•μg/mL, 37.3 and 51.5 μg/mL, 0.96 and 1.11 hours, 1.28 and 1.65 hours, respectively, for the IV and IV + IM groups. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Cefazolin concentrations in interstitial fluid of dogs were maintained at > 4 μg/mL for 4 hours after a single IV injection and for 5 hours after simultaneous IV and IM injections. Based on these results, simultaneous administration of cefazolin IV + IM 30 to 60 minutes before surgery should provide interstitial fluid concentrations effective against the most common commensal organisms (Staphylococcus spp and Streptococcus spp) on the skin of dogs for surgical procedures lasting ≤ 4 hours

Visual Localisation of Mobile Devices in an Indoor Environment under Network Delay Conditions

Current progresses in home automation and service robotic environment have highlighted the need to develop interoperability mechanisms that allow a standard communication between the two systems. During the development of the DHCompliant protocol, the problem of locating mobile devices in an indoor environment has been investigated. The communication of the device with the location service has been carried out to study the time delay that web services offer in front of the sockets. The importance of obtaining data from real-time location systems portends that a basic tool for interoperability, such as web services, can be ineffective in this scenario because of the delays added in the invocation of services. This paper is focused on introducing a web service to resolve a coordinates request without any significant delay in comparison with the sockets

Women as editors-in-chief of environmental science journals

This research note describes an analysis regarding the role of women as editors-in chief of environmental science journals. The list of journals analyzed was obtained from the database of “Web of Science”, published in 2015. This database does not include information on the name or gender of the editors-in-chief of journals, so a web search was performed. The results show that gender inequality is present in this important field of science. Causes of this bias merit more and profound research. The bias observed may not apply to journals of others areas of science

Assessment of a Modified Hydrocyclone with Ultrasonic Assistance for Nickel Powder Electrochemical Production

An electrochemical reactor based on a modified hydrocyclone with ultrasonic assistance is examined with the purpose of analyzing the continuous production of nickel powder from dilute solutions simulating industrial wastewaters containing nickel. Under operating conditions, nickel deposition takes place under mass-transfer control and the helical flow inside the reactor generates a high mass-transfer coefficient, thus improving the removal of metal ions. The application of ultrasound is crucial for the detachment of the electrodeposited nickel, which allows its recovery as a metal powder. The best result was achieved at a current density of 5368 A m?2 and 60 °C yielding a nickel powder fraction obtained from the spigot of the device higher than 90%. The gravimetric current efficiency and the specific energy consumption were 33.4% and 23.8 kW h kg?1, respectively, for anexperiment lasting 13 min.
