Insuficiencia venosa cerebroespinal crónica y esclerosis múltiple: revisión y actualización del tema

The aetiology of multiple sclerosis remains unknown at the present time, although the most likely explanation is that it has an autoimmune inflammatory origin. During the history of this disease a vascular pathophysiology was once proposed, and it has recently re-emerged as a result of the work by Paolo Zamboni with the name of 'chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency'. Following this hypothesis, Zamboni puts forward a curative treatment for multiple sclerosis by means of endovascular treatment of the internal jugular vein and the azygos vein. However, several teams have attempted to replicate his findings without success. In this review, we offer a chronological description of the studies carried out by Zamboni and the later attempts to replicate his work. Our main conclusion is that, given the results we currently have available, we should be cautious and, for the time being, it would be advisable not to recommend the systematic use of this treatment for our patients

Numerical Study of Heat Transfer Losses by Mixed Convection and Surface Thermal Radiation in an Open Cavity Receiver for a Solar Tower System

AbstractThe thermo solar central tower power plants are complex systems that consist of a heliostats field which provide a high solar concentrated flux to a thermal receiver located in the top of a tower. With this type of technology, a fluid moving in the thermal receiver can be heated up to 800 to 1200K, so a conventional thermodynamic cycle can be operated to generate electricity. In the city of Hermosillo, in the northern state of Sonora, Mexico, the National Autonomous University of Mexico in agreement with the University of Sonora is developing this type of technology for a plant of 2 MWt with an array of 80 heliostats (36 m2 each one) and a tower of 32 m height. Therefore, an appropriated thermal receiver has to be designed. Considering above, in this work the numerical results of heat transfer losses by mixed convection and surface thermal radiation in an open cavity receiver considering variable fluid properties are presented. Numerical calculations were performed in a cavity of 1 m width, 2 m height and 2 m depth, considering (a) only natural convection and (b) mixed convection, both with surface thermal radiation. The temperature difference between the hot wall and the bulk fluid (ΔT) was 600K. The kt-ɛt standard turbulence model was solved for the turbulent convection and for the surface thermal radiation the discrete ordinate method was applied. The simulations were conducted in steady state and the fluid properties were considered as a function of temperature. The software of computational fluid dynamics FLUENT 6.3 was used. The velocity, temperature fields and heat transfer coefficients were obtained. The total heat transfer losses increases 37.5% when the mixed convection is considered

This article seeks to promote the value of Generation Y as an agent of change focused on the phenomenon of globalization. Despite being a generation with stereotypes as self-centered, impatient, arrogant and unprepared, the reality is that Millennials have shocked the world with its initiative, approach and innovative leadership, which is unpredictable for change in a diverse and globalized world. Generation Y is not static, is characterized by networking at international levels, social, political and economic changes are part of their daily lives and seek to be partakers of these. Globalization, the opening of information and technology make them be better informed, which drives them to want to make changes at all levels of society, they have the tools and empowerment to do it

In the present study we have done an evaluation of the farms in an region of the north of Córdoba (Spain). Twenty five farms with principally murciano-granadina breed, have been visited. In these farms, we have done an inquiry with 310 questions. This inquiry is structured in three sections; one of those has 150 management variables, another one has 100 health variables and the last one has 60 technologic variables. Farms have been clasiffied in three groups in relation to the succesfull events distribution for each group of variables. The clasification system, which has been contrasted by discriminant analysis, let us include the farms while they are incorporating in the program. This is a results in a simple way to apply a different action plan in each group of farms.

Inclusion of higher order terms for small-signal (modal) analysis: Committee report - task force on assessing the need to include higher order terms for small-signal (modal) analysis

© 2005 IEEE.This paper summarizes the work done by the Task Force on Assessing the Need to Include Higher Order Terms for Small-Signal (Modal) Analysis. This Task Force was created by the Power System Dynamic Performance Committee to investigate the need to include higher order terms for small signal (modal) analysis. The focus of the work reported here is on establishing and documenting the practical significance of these terms in stability analysis using the method of Normal Forms. Special emphasis was placed on determining and describing conditions when higher order terms need to be included to accurately describe modal interactions. Test cases were developed on a standard test system to demonstrate the application of appropriate indices to detect the occurrence of nonlinear interaction and hence the need for higher order terms in stability analyzes. The use of the higher order terms in the site selection for a damping controller is also documented.Sanchez-Gasca, Juan J.,Vittal, Vijay; Gibbard, Michael J.; Messina, Arturo Roman; Vowles, David J.; Liu, Shu; Annakkage, Udaya D

Data Reduction Method for Categorical Data Clustering

Categorical data clustering constitutes an important part of data mining; its relevance has recently drawn attention from several researchers. As a step in data mining, however, clustering encounters the problem of large amount of data to be processed. This article offers a solution for categorical clustering algorithms when working with high volumes of data by means of a method that summarizes the database. This is done using a structure called CM-tree. In order to test our method, the KModes and Click clustering algorithms were used with several databases. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed summarization method improves execution time, without losing clustering quality
