    Grado de satisfacción y preferencias técnico-tácticas de jugadores de balonmano en etapas de formación según el sexo de los jugadores

    The aims of this study are: a) analyse the technical and tactical preferences of handball players in both training and competition, differentiating between genders; b) learn which are the preferred actions of handball players, differentiating between genders; c) differentiate the numerical situations of play preferred by the players according to gender of the player. A selective study was carried out on players in the U-14 and U-16 categories who participated in Spain's 2012 Handball Championship for territorial teams (n = 1015), dividing them into two groups: a) male and b) female. The methodology used was the "Handball Player Satisfaction and Preferences Questionnaire". The most important results showed that: a) the technical-tactical action preferred for both groups is to launch the ball; b) the game phase preferred for both groups is attack; c) girls show a greater preference for defence than boys; d) some defensive actions cause great satisfaction in both groups, while some feel themselves conditioned by what they believe their coaches like and ask for. These data can be used to optimise the process of teaching and learning in boys' and girls' handball, understanding that their preferences are not the same.Los objetivos del presente estudio son: a) analizar las preferencias técnico-tácticas de jugadores de balonmano, tanto en entrenamiento como en competición, diferenciando entre sexos; b) Saber cuáles son las acciones preferidas de los jugadores de balonmano diferenciando entre sexos; y c) diferenciar las situaciones de igualdad o desigualdad numérica de juego preferidas por los jugadores según el sexo del jugador. Se desarrolló un estudio de carácter  selectivo sobre los jugadores de categoría infantil y cadete que participaron en el Campeonato de España de Balonmano por selecciones territoriales de 2012 (n=1015), diferenciando dos grupos: a) masculino y b) femenino. Se utilizó como instrumento el “Cuestionario de Satisfacción y Preferencias en Jugadores de Balonmano”. Los resultados más importantes mostraron que: a) La acción técnico-táctica favorita en ambos grupos es la de lanzar; b) La fase del juego favorita en ambos grupos es la de atacar; c) las chicas muestran una mayor preferencia por la defensa que los chicos; y d) Ciertas acciones defensivas ocasionan una gran satisfacción en ambos grupos, algo que se cree condicionado por lo que creen que les gusta y que piden sus entrenadores. Estos datos pueden servir para optimizar el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del balonmano en chicos y chicas, entendiendo que sus preferencias no son las mismas

    Ventilatory threshold prediction by spectral analysis of heart rate variability in incremental maximal tests

    Ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2) are useful in many fields of medicine and sports. Nevertheless, their measurement is cumbersome and needs trained personnel. This work proposes an alternative method to predict VT1, VT2 and maximum loads in incremental maximal tests based on heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Twelve competitive male cyclists executed an incremental exhaustive test. During the test, RR time series and gas concentrations were recorded. After artifact correction the power spectrum was estimated in a sliding window, and central frequency (CF) and bandwidth that contains half the total power (BW) were computed. An automatic algorithm recognized the loads where CF and BW undergo a significant change. These loads were used as inputs in linear regression models to predict VT1, VT2 and maximum loads.     FUT8-directed core fucosylation of N-glycans is regulated by the glycan structure and protein environment

    FUT8 is an essential a-1, 6-fucosyltransferase that fucosylates the innermost GlcNAc of N-glycans, a process called core fucosylation. In vitro, FUT8 exhibits substrate preference for the biantennary complex N-glycan oligosaccharide (G0), but the role of the underlying protein/peptide to which N-glycans are attached remains unclear. Here, we explored the FUT8 enzyme with a series of N-glycan oligosaccharides, N-glycopeptides, and an Asn-linked oligosaccharide. We found that the underlying peptide plays a role in fucosylation of paucimannose (low mannose) and high-mannose N-glycans but not for complex-type N-glycans. Using saturation transfer difference (STD) NMR spectroscopy, we demonstrate that FUT8 recognizes all sugar units of the G0 N-glycan and most of the amino acid residues (Asn-X-Thr) that serve as a recognition sequon for the oligosaccharyltransferase (OST). The largest STD signals were observed in the presence of GDP, suggesting that prior FUT8 binding to GDP-ß-l-fucose (GDP-Fuc) is required for an optimal recognition of N-glycans. We applied genetic engineering of glycosylation capacities in CHO cells to evaluate FUT8 core fucosylation of high-mannose and complex-type N-glycans in cells with a panel of well-characterized therapeutic N-glycoproteins. This confirmed that core fucosylation mainly occurs on complex-type N-glycans, although clearly only at selected glycosites. Eliminating the capacity for complex-type glycosylation in cells (KO mgat1) revealed that glycosites with complex-type N-glycans when converted to high mannose lost the core Fuc. Interestingly, however, for erythropoietin that is uncommon among the tested glycoproteins in efficiently acquiring tetra-antennary N-glycans, two out of three N-glycosites obtained Fuc on the high-mannose N-glycans. An examination of the N-glycosylation sites of several protein crystal structures indicates that core fucosylation is mostly affected by the accessibility and nature of the N-glycan and not by the nature of the underlying peptide sequence. These data have further elucidated the different FUT8 acceptor substrate specificities both in vitro and in vivo in cells, revealing different mechanisms for promoting core fucosylation.

    Complex defects in the soft tissues of the foot and ankle caused by high-energy trauma, infection, cancer or diabetes require rapid and effective treatment which decreases the risk of infection, bone healing time, hospital stay and number total of surgical approaches. Authors report a clinical case of a 23-year-old female patient who suffers high-energy trauma due to a motorcycle accident which causes exposure of the distal third of the tibia, loss of the tibial joint face, and loss of tissue throughout the region of the malleolus medial of the right pelvic extremity. Tissue transfer to the pelvic limb is performed using left contralateral radial antebrachial free flap as donor area. This case report aims to emphasize the key aspects of the high energy trauma approach by using microvascular flaps, as well as the satisfactory evolution of the patient that directly affects the prognosis for life and function

    Preclinical corrective gene transfer in Xeroderma pigmentosum human skin stem cells

    Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a devastating disease associated with dramatic skin cancer proneness. XP cells are deficient in nucleotide excision repair (NER) of bulky DNA adducts including ultraviolet (UV)-induced mutagenic lesions. Approaches of corrective gene transfer in NER-deficient keratinocyte stem cells hold great hope for the long-term treatment of XP patients. To face this challenge, we developed a retrovirus-based strategy to safely transduce the wild-type XPC gene into clonogenic human primary XP-C keratinocytes. De novo expression of XPC was maintained in both mass population and derived independent candidate stem cells (holoclones) after more than 130 population doublings (PD) in culture upon serial propagation (> 10(40) cells). Analyses of retrovirus integration sequences in isolated keratinocyte stem cells suggested the absence of adverse effects such as oncogenic activation or clonal expansion. Furthermore, corrected XP-C keratinocytes exhibited full NER capacity as well as normal features of epidermal differentiation in both organotypic skin cultures and in a preclinical murine model of human skin regeneration in vivo.     HD 46375: seismic and spectropolarimetric analysis of a young Sun hosting a Saturn-like planet

    HD 46375 is known to host a Saturn-like exoplanet orbiting at 0.04 AU from its host star. Stellar light reflected by the planet was tentatively identified in the 34-day CoRoT run acquired in October-November 2008. We constrain the properties of the magnetic field of HD 46375 based on spectropolarimetric observations with the NARVAL spectrograph at the Pic du Midi observatory. In addition, we use a high-resolution NARVAL flux spectrum to contrain the atmospheric parameters. With these constraints, we perform an asteroseismic analysis and modelling of HD 46375 using the frequencies extracted from the CoRoT light curve. We used Zeeman Doppler imaging to reconstruct the magnetic map of the stellar surface. In the spectroscopic analysis we fitted isolated lines using 1D LTE atmosphere models. This analysis was used to constrain the effective temperature, surface gravity, and chemical composition of the star. To extract information about the p-mode oscillations, we used a technique based on the envelope autocorrelation function (EACF). From the Zeeman Doppler imaging observations, we observe a magnetic field of ~5 gauss. From the spectral analysis, HD 46375 is inferred to be an unevolved K0 type star with high metallicity [Fe/H]=+0.39. Owing to the relative faintness of the star (m_hip=8.05), the signal-to-noise ratio is too low to identify individual modes. However, we measure the p-mode excess power and large separation Delta nu_0=153.0 +/- 0.7 muHz. We are able do constrain the fundamental parameters of the star thanks to spectrometric and seismic analyses. We conclude that HD 46375 is similar to a young version of Alpha-CenB. This work is of special interest because of its combination of exoplanetary science and asteroseismology, which are the subjects of the current Kepler mission and the proposed PLATO mission.Comment: Accepted in Astronomy & Astrophysics. 8 pages, 9 figure

    alpha-particle production in the scattering of 6He by 208Pb at energies around the Coulomb barrier

    New experimental data from the scattering of 6He+208Pb at energies around and below the Coulomb barrier are presented. The yield of breakup products coming from projectile fragmentation is dominated by a strong group of α\alpha particles. The energy and angular distributions of this group have been analyzed and compared with theoretical calculations. This analysis indicates that the α\alpha particles emitted at backward angles in this reaction are mainly due to two-neutron transfer to weakly bound states of the final nucleus.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures.     Long-term variability and trends in meteorological droughts in Western Europe (1851-2018)

    We analyzed long-term variability and trends in meteorological droughts across Western Europe using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). Precipitation data from 199 stations spanning the period 1851-2018 were employed, following homogenisation, to derive SPI-3 and SPI-12 series for each station, together with indices on drought duration and severity. Results reveal a general absence of statistically significant long-term trends in the study domain, with the exception of significant trends at some stations, generally covering short periods. The largest decreasing trends in SPI-3 (i.e. increasing drought conditions) were found for summer in the British and Irish Isles. In general, drought episodes experienced in the last two or three decades have precedents during the last 170 years, emphasising the importance of long records for assessing change. The main characteristic of drought variability in Western Europe is its strong spatial diversity, with regions exhibiting a homogeneous temporal evolution. Notably, the temporal variability of drought in Western Europe is more dominant than long-term trends. This suggests that long-term drought trends cannot be confirmed in Western Europe using precipitation records alone.
