    Phenomenological interpolation of the inclusive J/psi cross section to proton-proton collisions at 2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV

    We present a study of the inclusive J/psi cross section at 2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV. The energy dependence of the cross section, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are evaluated phenomenologically. Their knowledge is crucial as a reference for the interpretation of A-A and p-A J/psi results at the LHC. Our approach is the following: first, we estimate the energy evolution of the pt-integrated J/psi cross section at mid-rapidity; then, we evaluate the rapidity dependence; finally, we study the transverse momentum distribution trend. Whenever possible, both theory driven (based on pQCD predictions) and functional form (data driven fits) calculations are discussed. Our predictions are compared with the recently obtained results by the ALICE collaboration in pp collisions at 2.76 TeV.Comment: 23 pages, 19 figures, updated text+figures, added comparison to ALICE measurements at 2.76Te

    Lifestyle and fat distribution in asthmatic and healthy adolescents

    Introducción: el objetivo es analizar el estilo de vida, en función del ejercicio y la dieta, de un grupo de adolescentes de la Comunidad de Madrid, teniendo en cuenta género y patología y su relación con el estado nutricional, la distribución de grasa y la función pulmonar. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo de 207 sujetos que analizó el estilo de vida a partir del nivel de actividad física (AF) y la adherencia a la dieta mediterránea, el estado nutricional y la distribución de grasa, y la salud respiratoria. Resultados: El grupo de no asmáticos fue más activo (p=0,003) y presentó menor ICT (p=0,001) que el grupo de asmáticos. Se encontraron diferencias significativas dentro del grupo sin asma en nivel de AF siendo los varones más activos (p=0,01) y presentando menor índice cintura-talla (ICT) que las mujeres del mismo grupo (p=0,001). Conclusiones: Los adolescentes no asmáticos fueron más activos y presentaron mejor distribución de grasa que los asmáticosObjectives: objective is to analyze the lifestyle, integrating exercise and diet, of a group of adolescents from the Community of Madrid, taking into account gender and pathology and its relationship with nutritional status, fat distribution and lung function in adolescents with or without asthma. Methods: This was a descriptive study including 207 subjects aged 13.20 ± 0.62 years. Lifestyle was assessed in terms of physical activity (PA) levels, Mediterranean diet, nutritional status, and respiratory health measured through FEV1 (z). Results: In the non-asthma group, boys were more active (p = 0.01) and showed a lower waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) than girls (p = 0.001). Participants without asthma were more active (p = 0.003), and had a better WHtR (p = 0.001) and FEV1 (p = 0.001) than those with asthma.     XPS as Characterization Tool for PV: From the Substrate to Complete III-V Multijunction Solar Cells

    This contribution aims to illustrate the potential of the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) technique as a tool to analyze different parts of a solar cell (surface state, heterointerfaces, profile composition of ohmic contacts, etc). Here, the analysis is specifically applied to III-V multijunction solar cells used in concentrator systems. The information provided from such XPS analysis has helped to understand the physico-chemical nature of these surfaces and interfaces, and thus has guided the technological process in order to improve the solar cell performance

    Los resultados obtenidos en investigaciones acerca de la formación docente señalan que los conocimientos y competencias alcanzados por los egresados no responden adecuadamente a los desafíos de la compleja práctica profesional. Los diseños curriculares, no parecen tener en cuenta las condiciones desfavorables que caracterizan a la mayor parte de la realidad educativa. El Censo Nacional Docente del año 2004 señala que existen 55,576 docentes que trabajan en zonas rurales. Las investigaciones demuestran una ausencia generalizada de contenidos para el desempeño en instituciones insertas en contextos rurales o escuelas que atienden plurigrados. Quienes desempeñan esta tarea lo hacen desde las competencias y conocimientos adquiridos en procesos no especializados. La complejidad de estas situaciones requiere repensar alternativas para adecuar la formación docente a las necesidades de estas escuelas y docentes. Esta investigación estudia la adecuación de la formación docente inicial a las necesidades que demandan las escuelas y la comunidad en el ejercicio profesional en contextos de ruralidad. La investigación se lleva a cabo aplicando un enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo, a partir del procesamiento , análisis e interpretación de la información que brinda una Planilla de Análisis de Tareas aplicada a docentes de escuelas rurales de la Provincia de Córdoba, y del estudio de las expectativas de la comunidad, de directivos y supervisores respecto a la capacitación profesional de los docentes. Este estudio espera contribuir con información que posibilite la mejora de los diseños curriculares para la oferta de Cursos de Postítulo para docentes que se desempeñan en escuelas primarias en contextos de ruralidad

    The limbic brain under stress: a role for the LPA1 receptor

    Adverse events can impact brain structure and function and are considered primary sources of risk for depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders. In this sense, the neurobiological circuitry in charge of dealing with stressors has been widely studied in animal models. Our group has demonstrated a role for lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) through the LPA1-receptor in controlling anxious and depressive states, owing to aggravation of the detrimental consequences of stress in the brain. Indeed, our group has recently proposed the variant maLPA1-null mice, i.e. mice lacking the LPA1 receptor, as an endophenotype for anxious depression. In addition, we have previously reported hyperactivation of key stress-related brain areas after stress, such as basolateral amygdala. Here, we seek to further examine the engagement of the LPA1 receptor in the regulation of the limbic circuit following an acute stressor, tail suspension test, in wildtype and knockout animals. To that end, c-Fos expression was evaluated as a measure of functional activity in both basal and stress conditions, followed by interregional correlation matrices to establish the brain map of functional activation. Additionally, we observed whether one single dose of the antidepressant treatment with desipramine is able to normalize the functional brain map. Results revealed that the absence of the LPA1 receptor induce an anomalous pattern of brain functional activity after TST, which was reverted by desipramine administration.These results provide further insight to the involvement of the LPA1 receptor in stress regulation and shed light on divergent brain pathways under normal and vulnerability conditions that can be implicated in depressive symptoms.     Effects of 10 MeV proton irradiation on III-V solar cells

    In this work we present our latest results and analysis of a 10 MeV proton irradiation experiment performed on III-V solar cells. A set of representative devices were irradiated for different fluences, including latticematched GaInP/GaInAs/Ge triple junction, GaInP/Ge double junction, and GaAs and Ge single junction solar cells. The methodology applied included the irradiation of two devices of each type; for a better control of the measurements, non-irradiated devices with the same characteristics of those irradiated were used as reference. The devices were monitored before and after each exposure by in-situ characterization of the electrical response under dark and under illumination using a solar simulator connected to the irradiation chamber through a borosilicate glass window. Ex-situ characterization techniques included dark and 1 sun AM0 illumination I-V curve and external quantum efficiency measurements. Furthermore, results of the numerical simulation of devices with D-AMPS-1D code are presented in order to give a physical interpretation of the results. DLTS spectroscopy preliminary results for single junction GaAs cells are also presented

    High prognostic value of measurable residual disease detection by flow cytometry in chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients treated with front-line fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and rituximab, followed by three years of rituximab maintenance

    It has been postulated that monitoring measurable residual disease (MRD) could be used as a surrogate marker of progression-free survival (PFS) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients after treatment with immunochemotherapy regimens. In this study, we analyzed the outcome of 84 patients at 3 years of follow-up after first-line treatment with fludarabine, cyclophosphamide and rituximab (FCR) induction followed by 36 months of rituximab maintenance thearpy. MRD was assessed by a quantitative four-color flow cytometry panel with a sensitivity level of 10-4. Eighty out of 84 evaluable patients (95.2%) achieved at least a partial response or better at the end of induction. After clinical evaluation, 74 patients went into rituximab maintenance and the primary endpoint was assessed in the final analysis at 3 years of follow-up. Bone marrow (BM) MRD analysis was performed after the last planned induction course and every 6 months in cases with detectable residual disease during the 36 months of maintenance therapy. Thirty-seven patients (44%) did not have detectable residual disease in the BM prior to maintenance therapy. Interestingly, 29 patients with detectable residual disease in the BM after induction no longer had detectable disease in the BM following maintenance therapy. After a median followup of 6.30 years, the median overall survival (OS) and PFS had not been reached in patients with either undetectable or detectable residual disease in the BM, who had achieved a complete response at the time of starting maintenance therapy. Interestingly, univariate analysis showed that after rituximab maintenance OS was not affected by IGHV status (mutated vs. unmutated OS: 85.7% alive at 7.2 years vs. 79.6% alive at 7.3 years, respectively). As per protocol, 15 patients (17.8%), who achieved a complete response and undetectable peripheral blood and BM residual disease after four courses of induction, were allowed to stop fludarabine and cyclophosphamide and complete two additional courses of rituximab and continue with maintenance therapy for 18 cycles. Surprisingly, the outcome in this population was similar to that observed in patients who received the full six cycles of the induction regimen. These data show that, compared to historic controls, patients treated with FCR followed by rituximab maintenance have high-quality responses with fewer relapses and improved OS. The tolerability of this regime is favorable. Furthermore, attaining an early undetectable residual disease status could shorten the duration of chemoimmunotherapy, reducing toxicities and preventing long-term side effects. The analysis of BM MRD after fludarabine-based induction could be a powerful predictor of post-maintenance outcomes in patients with CLL undergoing rituximab maintenance and could be a valuable tool to identify patients at high risk of relapse, influencing further treatment strategies

    La formación docente en los Institutos de la Provincia de Córdoba. Adecuación a las necesidades que plantea el ejercicio profesional en las escuelas de nivel primario

    La cuestión docente es uno de los desafíos contemporáneos más críticos del desarrollo educativo actual. El docente se encuentra en este momento requerido por nuevas demandas del mundo contemporáneo tales como los cambios que se han producido en las familias y en las culturas juveniles, lo que da un nuevo rostro a los alumnos; las nuevas exigencias del sector productivo y del mercado del trabajo, los fenómenos de exclusión social y los nuevos desafíos de educabilidad, la evolución de las tecnologías de la comunicación y de la información, entre otras. Estas situaciones condicionan la claridad de las funciones que la escuela y la sociedad requieren a los docentes, quienes frecuentemente se sienten desbordados y confundidos ante las situaciones que deben asumir, expresando en sus opiniones la valoración que hacen de la formación recibida. Desde los procesos de transformación educativa, en los últimos cinco años, se introdujeron modificaciones en las instituciones formadoras de docentes incluyéndose actividades de investigación educativa; cambios en los contenidos que se desarrollan en los espacios curriculares y en la organización de la práctica de la enseñanza. Estos cambios se ponen de manifiesto en las propuestas pedagógicas de los institutos que incluye el Proyecto Curricular Institucional, las planificaciones didácticas de los profesores, las prácticas docentes que se llevan a cabo en el aula y la práctica de enseñanza en las escuelas. Esta investigación pretende estudiar la adecuación del trayecto de formación docente inicial a las necesidades que actualmente demandan a los alumnos, las escuelas y la comunidad en el ejercicio de la práctica profesional. Hipótesis: La vinculación de la propuesta curricular de los institutos de formación docente inicial con las demandas educativas que provienen de los alumnos, de las instituciones, de la sociedad, condiciona la percepción de los docentes recién egresados acerca de la formación recibida. Objetivos: Evaluar el grado de correspondencia de la propuesta curricular del trayecto de formación docente inicial con las demandas que hacen al ejercicio de la práctica profesional, los alumnos, las escuelas y la comunidad

    Corrosion behaviour of Mg–Zn–Y–Mischmetal alloys in phosphate buffer saline solution

    The influence of the processing route and chemical composition in the corrosion behaviour of two Mg-Zn-Y-Mischmetal alloys has been evaluated in phosphate buffer saline solution. The corrosion resistance of the alloy processed by conventional techniques was substantially higher than that found for the same alloy processed from atomised powders. Fine homogeneous distribution of the second-phase particles promoted severe attack due to the enhanced number of galvanic microcells. A higher concentration of zinc and a lower content of rare earth additions improved the corrosion resistance of the alloys due to the lower volume fraction of second-phase particles. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.Peer Reviewe
