Superficial radially resolved fluorescence and 3D photochemical time-dependent model for photodynamic therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) dosimetric tools are crucial for treatment planning and noninvasive monitoring by means of fluorescence. Present approaches consider usually a 1D problem, a simple photochemical process, or a spatially homogeneous photosensitizer. In this work, a radially resolved superficial photosensitizer fluorescence and 3D photochemical time-dependent PDT model are presented. The model provides a time-dependent estimation of tissue fluorescence and the photosensitizer and singlet oxygen 3D concentrations. The model is applied to a basal cell carcinoma treated by Metvix topical photosensitizer protocol. The analysis shows the potentiality in treatment planning and monitoring. The fluorescence results are in agreement with previous measurements
This paper shows a case study with students of Computer Science related undergraduate programs that involved more than 300 university students from Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. For this purpose, a learning styles model of four dimension (Processing, Perception, Input ang Understanding) was applied by an online. The analysis shows that visual-active-sensing-sequential was the style dominant presented in the students of three countries. The analysis also revealed that there are not significant statistical differences for the four dimensions in students from Colombia and Mexico. However, learning styles of students from Argentina and Mexico show only significant differences in Understanding dimension. In contrast, there are significant statistical differences in Input and Understanding dimensions between students from Colombia and Argentina. Finally, this work provides recommendations so teachers and professors in these countries can adapt their practices to the dominant style identified and some suggestions for designers and developers of collaborative educational applications.
Improved models of upper-level wind for several astronomical observatories
An understanding of wind speed and direction as a function of height are
critical to the proper modeling of atmospheric turbulence. We have used
radiosonde data from launch sites near significant astronomical observatories
and created mean profiles of wind speed and direction and have also computed
Richardson number profiles. Using data from the last 30 years, we extend the
1977 Greenwood wind profile to include parameters that show seasonal variations
and differences in location. The added information from our models is useful
for the design of adaptive optics systems and other imaging systems. Our
analysis of the Richardson number suggests that persistent turbulent layers may
be inferred when low values are present in our long term averaged data.
Knowledge of the presence of these layers may help with planning for adaptive
optics and laser communications.Comment: 21 pages, 15 Figures, 8 table
Tracing high density gas in M 82 and NGC 4038
We present the first detection of CS in the Antennae galaxies towards the NGC
4038 nucleus, as well as the first detections of two high-J (5-4 and 7-6) CS
lines in the center of M 82. The CS(7-6) line in M 82 shows a profile that is
surprisingly different to those of other low-J CS transitions we observed. This
implies the presence of a separate, denser and warmer molecular gas component.
The derived physical properties and the likely location of the CS(7-6) emission
suggests an association with the supershell in the centre of M 82.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, ApJ Letter - ACCEPTE
Investigating Yang-Mills theory and Confinement as a function of the spatial volume
We study the volume dependence of electric flux energies for SU(2) gauge
theory with twisted boundary conditions. The curves interpolate smoothly
between the perturbative semiclassicalresults and the Confinement regime. On
the basis of our results, we propose that the Confinement property might be
caused by a class of non-dilute multi-instanton configurations.Comment: Postscript - paper.ps and sig_lt3c.eps (Fig 1). 25 pages of text and

This article is based on the monograph in the Bilingual Intercultural Education degree, entitled: The Kriol language as the mother tongue of teaching-learning in the first and second grades in the Bilingual Intercultural Schools "Father Hugo Heinzen" in Brown Bank and "Monsignor Salvador Scheffler" in Tasbapauni. It constitutes a piloting of the curriculum of Intercultural Bilingual / Multilingual Education within the framework of the Regional Autonomous Educational System - SEAR-. It is about contributing to the consolidation of teaching in kriol as a mother tongue; also, it analyzes the methodology and verifies the attitudes of the educational community regarding kriol as the language of instruction and object of study. The results show the advantages of the mother tongue use in the active participation of children, assimilation of the contents and development of the outlined competences. The difficulty that was found is the lack of texts in the Tasbapauni School. Regarding the attitudes of the educational community, in Tasbapauni there is resistance concerning to the use of kriol in school, because it does not correspond to the childhood mother tongue and they want to replace it with the Miskitu. It is a confusion in the concepts: the original language or ancestral language of the population is Miskitu, but due to the linguistic change that occurred, the mother tongue of the majority of the population is kriol.
Improved parallelization techniques for the density matrix renormalization group
A distributed-memory parallelization strategy for the density matrix
renormalization group is proposed for cases where correlation functions are
required. This new strategy has substantial improvements with respect to
previous works. A scalability analysis shows an overall serial fraction of 9.4%
and an efficiency of around 60% considering up to eight nodes. Sources of
possible parallel slowdown are pointed out and solutions to circumvent these
issues are brought forward in order to achieve a better performance.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures; version published in Computer Physics

Plasma proteomics of renal function: A transethnic meta-analysis and mendelian randomization study
Background Studies on the relationship between renal function and the human plasma proteome have identified several potential biomarkers. However, investigations have been conducted largely in European populations, and causality of the associations between plasma proteins and kidney function has never been addressed. Methods A cross-sectional study of 993 plasma proteins among 2882 participants in four studies of European and admixed ancestries (KORA, INTERVAL, HUNT, QMDiab) identified transethnic associations between eGFR/CKD and proteomic biomarkers. For the replicated associations, two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to investigate potential causal relationships. Publicly available datasets and transcriptomic data from independent studies were used to examine the association between gene expression in kidney tissue and eGFR. Results In total, 57 plasma proteins were associated with eGFR, including one novel protein. Of these, 23 were additionally associated with CKD. The strongest inferred causal effect was the positive effect of eGFR on testican-2, in line with the known biological role of this protein and the expression of its protein-coding gene (SPOCK2) in renal tissue. We also observed suggestive evidence of an effect of melanoma inhibitory activity (MIA), carbonic anhydrase III, and cystatin-M on eGFR. Conclusions In a discovery-replication setting, we identified 57 proteins transethnically associated with eGFR. The revealed causal relationships are an important stepping stone in establishing testican-2 as a clinically relevant physiological marker of kidney disease progression, and point to additional proteins warranting further investigation. © 2021 by the American Society of Nephrolog
