Posterior sternoclavicular dislocation is a rare disease. It occurs mainly in young men associated with
high-energy trauma. It can be life-threatening due to compression of mediastinal structures, so its reduction is
urgently needed. The radiographic diagnosis can be difficult because of overlapping structures, CT is very helpful to
determine the type and degree of displacement and the anatomic relationship with the mediastinal structures. We present
the case of a male patient, aged 23, with an acute traumatic posterior sternoclavicular dislocation after accident,
in which closed reduction was achieved by manipulation under general anesthesia, followed by analgesic immobilization
for 3 weeks resulting in sternoclavicular healing without instability, so no more procedures were needed. A literature
review is presented regarding to this case
Disentangling phase transitions and critical points in the proton-neutron interacting boson model by catastrophe theory
We introduce the basic concepts of catastrophe theory needed to derive analytically the phase diagram of the proton-neutron interacting boson model (IBM-2). Previous studies [1-3] were based on numerical solutions. We here explain the whole IBM-2 phase diagram including the precise order of the phase transitions in terms of the cusp catastrophe. © 2014 The Authors. This work was partially supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Econom´ıa y Competitividad and the European regional development fund (FEDER) under Project Nos. New results on q-positivity
In this paper we discuss symmetrically self-dual spaces, which are simply
real vector spaces with a symmetric bilinear form. Certain subsets of the space
will be called q-positive, where q is the quadratic form induced by the
original bilinear form. The notion of q-positivity generalizes the classical
notion of the monotonicity of a subset of a product of a Banach space and its
dual. Maximal q-positivity then generalizes maximal monotonicity. We discuss
concepts generalizing the representations of monotone sets by convex functions,
as well as the number of maximally q-positive extensions of a q-positive set.
We also discuss symmetrically self-dual Banach spaces, in which we add a Banach
space structure, giving new characterizations of maximal q-positivity. The
paper finishes with two new examples.Comment: 18 page
Can low-cost road vehicles positioning systems fulfil accuracy specifications of new ADAS applications?
Some new Advanced Driver Assistance Sy stems (ADAS) need on-the-lane vehicle positioning on accurate digital maps, but present applications of vehicle positioning do not justify the surcharge of very ac curate equipment such as DGPS or high-cost inertial systems. For this reason, performance of GPS in autonomous mode is analyzed. Although satisfactory results can be found, in some areas GPS signal is lost or degraded, so it is necessary to know the positioning error when using only inertial system data. A th eoretical approach based on the uncertainty propagation law is used to esti mate the upper limit of distance that can be travelled fulfilling the specifications of an assistance system. Tests results support the conclusions of this approach. Finally, the comb ination of GPS and inertial systems is studied, resulting that the theoretical approach is valid when inertial measurements are used right from the start of GPS signal de gradation, without waiting for a complete loss. The work reported in this paper has been partly funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (SIAC project TRA2007-67786-C02-01 and TRA2007-67786-C02-02) and the CAM project SEGVAUTO.Publicad

A Mathematical Model to Study the Meningococcal Meningitis
AbstractThe main goal of this work is to introduce a novel mathematical model to study the spreading of meningococcal meningitis. Specifically, it is a discrete mathematical model based on cellular automata where the population is divided in five classes: sus- ceptible, asymptomatic infected, infected with symptoms, carriers, recovered and died. It catches the individual characteristics of people in order to give a prediction of both the individual behavior, and whole evolution of population
Maritime Perspective of Panama Interoceanic Railway
In 1977, when the American historian David McCullough wrote a book called ”The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914”, about the social and geographical environment during the Panama Canal construction, he described the transisthmic railway as a complement of the engineering department that French’s company did not know how to take advantage of, because with the Californian gold fever decadence and with the Canal works it would not have had any commercial purpose other than the ridiculous price of passenger tickets. He never imagined that 100 years later this complement will be a key fact in the supply chain of the Latin-American and worldwide trade.
In this paper, we will focus in the logistical map of America, where Panama is the centre. Being the way to connect Asia and America, also both coasts of the American Continent, and the begin/end place of four of the five Feeders highways of Latin America, it turns in the link with the others and with the rest of the world. But they are separated by 76 kilometres that a logistical system converts this distance into a one-hour travel to the next connection.
The challenges of this system are raising everyday as result of di_erent regional trade facts. The
Panamanian complex is playing an important role with the trade balances, the growing economies and transoceanic services with stop in Panama, generating disequilibrium (empty containers problem). The empty containers must follow the empty container cycle since the container is emptied and the customer returns it to the owner, it’s taken to the depot for maintenance, step that is mandatory in order to return to the cycle of export
Comparison of Mechanical Properties of Hemp-Fibre Biocomposites Fabricated with Biobased and Regular Epoxy Resins
[EN] Bio- and green composites are mainly used in non-structural automotive elements like interior panels and vehicle underpanels. Currently, the use of biocomposites as a worthy alternative to glass fibre-reinforced plastics (GFRPs) in structural applications still needs to be fully evaluated. In the current study, the development of a suited biocomposites started with a thorough review of the available raw materials, including both reinforcement fibres and matrix materials. Based on its specific properties, hemp appeared to be a very suitable fibre. A similar analysis was conducted for the commercially available biobased matrix materials. Greenpoxy 55 (with a biocontent of 55%) and Super Sap 100 (with a biocontent of 37%) were selected and compared with a standard epoxy resin. Tensile and three-point bending tests were conducted to characterise the hemp-based biocomposite. The authors acknowledge financial support from the Spanish Government, Project PID2019-108807RB-I00.Colomer Romero, V.; Rogiest, D.; García Manrique, JA.; Crespo, J. The abundances and distributions of molluscs in the southern Iberian Peninsula: A comparison of marine and terrestrial systems
Molluscs are the second most diverse of all animal phyla, and occur in many habitat types. They are, therefore, a particularly good phylum with which to compare and contrast differences between ecosystems. Mollusc data from a number of sites along the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula are analysed to study patterns of diversity and distribution using a range of multivariate techniques. Within each site, data are presented from three locations -fully terrestrial, rocky intertidal and soft bottom benthic (10 m and 20 m depths)- all in close proximity. The species are then classified in relation to morphology and size, and analysed at supraspecific levels to elucidate underlying patterns. The observed patterns are briefly discussed, with particular reference to the differential scope and importance of controlling factors in each ecosystem, such as dispersal processes. The results from the systems are compared and discussed in the context of ecological and evolutionary constraints in Mollusca.
