The need to ask the question "What is Hispanic Caribbean Theatre?" retains its fundamental agency as long as attempts to forge answers are tempered by, first, the integration of the dramatic expression and performance forms of the Latina/o Caribbean diaspora in the US and, second, an appraisal of the, at once, homogenizing and disintegrating impact on the island societies and cultures of geopolitical Caribbean of economic and electronic media globalization or "Americanization." A brief examination of Anna in the Tropics, the 2003 Pulitzer Prize winning play by Cuban American author Nilo Cruz, leads to queries of what makes a play "Caribbean-American," "Cuban-American," or simply "American," in its use of the conventions and language of the mainstream US theatre. The conclusion proposes a redefinition of the relation between the theatre and performance forms the island or geopolitical Caribbean and the Latina/o diaspora as aesthetic/critical continuity rather than as extension or separation. Culture is synonymous with artistry, indigenous ceremonies carried out by some ethnic groups, custom clothing, folk tales or legends and literatures. In UARTP cling structural elements that are the orders of event’s activities, as well as elements of semiotics, local wisdoms. Based on the foregoing, this research is entitled “The Value of Local Wisdom in the Ceremonial Rites of Sugar can in Subdistrick Babakan Cirebon (Structural Analysis Semiotic). Occurrence of photosynthetic microbial mats in a Lower Cretaceous black shale (central Italy): a shallow-water deposit

Cretaceous oceanic anoxic events (OAEs) were periods of high organic carbon burial corresponding to intervals with excellent organic matter (OM) preservation. This work focuses on the Urbino level, i.e., OAE1b, which is thought to be of regional extent. A detailed microscopical study of OM shows a dominance of microbial activity, characterized by a typical arrangement of exopolymeric substances (EPS) related to microbial mats, bacterial bodies, and some photosynthetic microorganisms, as shown by thylakoids. The latter lived where they have been found, i.e., at the sea bottom, which indicates that OM results from the diagenesis of benthic photosynthetic microbial mats, an interpretation supported through the comparison with a recent analogue. The exceptional preservation of such organic structures in OM points to the joint role of the selective and sorptive preservation pathways. These data and interpretation strongly differ from previous observations in OAE1b equivalents. They suggest that the Urbino level might be an atypical OAE of regional/local extent which was formed within the photic zon

    The effects of entrepreneurship education

    Get PDF
Entrepreneurship education ranks high on policy agendas in Europe and the US, but little research is available to assess its impact. To help close this gap we investigate whether entrepreneurship education a?ects intentions to be entrepreneurial uniformly or whether it leads to greater sorting of students. The latter can reduce the average intention to be entrepreneurial and yet be socially beneficial. This paper provides a model of learning in which entrepreneurship education generates signals to students. Drawing on the signals, students evaluate their aptitude for entrepreneurial tasks. The model is tested using data from a compulsory entrepreneurship course. Using ex ante and ex post survey responses from students, we find that intentions to found decline somewhat although the course has significant positive e?ects on students’ self-assessed entrepreneurial skills. The empirical analysis supports the hypothesis that students receive informative signals and learn about their entrepreneurial aptitude. We outline implications for educators and public policy
