The Psychosocial occupational hazards have become an increasing concern both in social and health terms due to their various consequences. One such risk is the risk of burnout, which concerns above all health professionals. The paper deals with the preparation and development of the study and analysis of the quality of life at university. This analysis has been carried out from the general perspective of the burnout process among university lecturers at three Spanish universities, with a total staff of 9,235 university lecturers in the Autonomous Regions of Madrid, Catalonia and Aragon (Autonomous Zaragoza). The general objective of this project is the assessment of professional burnout among university lecturers understood as a process. The more specific aims of this project are determining the prevalence of burnout among the university lecturers in the aforementioned three universities, based on the criteria of the Maslach Burnout Inventory- General Survey (MBI-GS); the assessment and analysis of the specific antecedent factors leading to university lecturer burnout; and the assessment and analysis of the professional and personal consequences of burnout, as well as of the personal elements included in the project. The second and third parts of the project have been carried out using a specific assessment tool developed by our own research team. The application has been prepared on a PDA with the corresponding program, which facilitates data confidentiality and the effective management of the process. The methodology employed was the application of the MBI-GS, and other tools elaborated together with experts (questions borrowed from other internationally well-known questionnaires or developed by our research team), to a representative random sample of university lecturers in each of the aforementioned universities (1212 lecturers), depending on the different teaching staff categories at each university

Background: Information concerning lipid disturbances in HIV-infected women on antiretroviral therapy (ART) is scarce. The objective of the study is to describe the lipid profile in a large cohort of HIV-infected women on contemporary ART and analyse differences between regimes and patient's characteristics. Methods: Observational, multicentre, cross-sectional study from the Spanish VACH Cohort. 922 women on stable ART without lipid-lowering treatment were included. Results: Median age was 42 years, median CD4 lymphocyte count was 544 cells/mm3, and 85.6% presented undetectable HIV-1 viral load. Median total cholesterol (TC) was 189 mg/dL (interquartile range, IQR, 165-221), HDL cholesterol 53 mg/dL (IQR, 44-64), LDL cholesterol 108 mg/dL (IQR, 86-134), and triglycerides 116 mg/dL (IQR, 85-163). Mean accumulated time on ART was 116 months; 47.4% were on NNRTI-based regimes, 44.7% on PI, and 6.7% on only-NRTI therapy. 43.8% were also hepatitis C (HCV) coinfected. Patients on PI treatment presented higher TC/HDL ratio than those on NNRTI (p < 0.001). Significantly higher HDL values were observed in NNRTI-treated patients. HCV-coinfected patients presented lower TC/HDL ratio than the non HCV-coinfected. In multivariate analysis, factors independently associated with TC/HDL ratio were age, triglyceride levels and HCV co-infection. PI treatment presented a non-significant association with higher TC/HDL ratio. Conclusions: In HIV-infected women, the NNRTI-based ART is associated with a better lipid profile than the PI-based. Factors unrelated to ART selection may also exert an independent, significant influence on lipids; in particular, age, and triglyceride levels are associated with an increased TC/HDL ratio while HCV co-infection is associated with a reduced TC/HDL ratio

Efficient cubic spline interpolation implemented with FIR filters

8 pages, 16 figures, 1 table.Classical Cubic spline interpolation needs to solve a set of equations of high dimension. In this work we show how to compute the interpolant using a FIR digital filter, with a reduced number of operations per interpolated point and high accuracy. Additionally, the computation can be made on real time as the signal samples are acquired. Following this approach, we show how to obtain easily the derivatives of the interpolant in a similar way, and also signal approximations to reduce the oscillations that appear when using high order splines. These techniques are very well suited to compute continuous representations of image contours on closed shapes and to find its curvature and singularities. This work was supported by the project 3D Otolith shape analysis (AFORO 3D), ref: CTM2010-19701, from Spanish Government.Peer reviewe

6 pages, 18 figuresIn this work we present a new method for compacting data from 3D shapes by extracting a 3D characteristic curve that we call a 3D signature. The 3D signature obtained preserves almost all the morphological shape information but drastically reduces the number of points required for representing the shape. Furthermore, based on the 3D signature, we present a 2D signature that draws a closed contour in a plane and that can be further compacted using elliptic Fourier descriptors. The method was developed to work with a 3D otolith database that is currently under constructionThis work is partially supported by UVic under grant R0904 and by project 3D Otolith shape analysis (AFORO 3D), ref: CTM2010-19701, from Spanish GovernmentPeer reviewe

Educació ambiental i llibres per a infants i joves
