BAYESIAN ANALYSIS OF THE COMPOUND COLLECTIVE MODEL; THE VARIANCE PREMIUM PRINCIPLE WITH EXPONENTIAL POISSON AND GAMMA-GAMMA DISTRIBUTIONS

The distribution of the aggregate claim size is the considerable importance in insurance theory since, for example, it is needed as an input in premium calculation principles and reserve calculation which plays an important paper in ruin theory. In this paper a Bayesian study for the collective risk model by incorporating a prior distribution for both, the parameter of the claim number distribution and the parameter of the claim size distribution is made and applied to the variance premium principle. Later a sensitivity study is to carry out on both parameters using Bayesian global robustness. Despite the complicated form of the collective risk model it is shown how the robustness study can be treated in an easy way. We illustrate the results obtained with numerical examples.Bayesian Robustness, Contamination Class, Variance Principle.

Research into the information referents of deaf signers

    Get PDF
The Information society is bringing about an increase in the number of information referents for deaf signers (those who use sign language). With the aim of exploring the ways most commonly used by deaf people to find out about current affairs, this paper summarizes some quantitative research that was carried out involving 138 deaf people: 69 in Spain and 69 in the US. The work is complemented qualitatively by a focus group in Gallaudet University, Washington, using American Sign Language (ASL), and by observations from three lecture/ news presentations which took place in Barcelona in Catalan Sign Language (LSC)

Traumatic rupture of the tricuspid valve

Traumatic rupture of the tricuspid valve is a rare and difficult entity to diagnose as it usually courses asymptomatic; therefore, clinical suspicion is key to identify it. We report the case of a 48-year-old male patient who was admitted due to closed thoracic trauma after falling from 4 meters high. The echocardioscopy performed in the Emergency Room was normal. The patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit due to pulmonary contusion and multiple rib fractures. Lab tests revealed elevation of myocardial necrosis markers, and ECG showed RBBB. A new echocardiography, performed 48 hours later to rule out complications secondary to myocardial contusion, targeted the tricuspid valve with papillary muscle rupture and eversion of the anterior leaflet causing massive tricuspid regurgitation (TR) (opacifying the right atrium; Doppler triangular flow did not allow pulmonary pressure measurement; there was systolic inversion in suprahepatic vein flow, paradoxical septal motion associated with volume overload), slightly enlarged right chambers with preserved right ventricular systolic function, and mild pericardial effusion. ...

Hydrogen passivation of boron acceptors in as-grown boron-doped CVD diamond epilayers

    Get PDF
A homoepitaxial boron-doped diamond single layer is investigated by means of Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and cathodoluminescence (CL). Both techniques are shown to be complementary. μ-FTIR mapping allows to determine the location of active boron while CL allows discernability between passivation and compensation. Hydrogen incorporation during chemical vapour deposition (CVD) growth is revealed to passivate boron acceptors. The obtained results highlight that plasma etching can induce a dissociation of B–H centres.4 page

Electromodulation of the Magnetoresistance in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors Based Heterostructures

We study the properties of heterostructures formed by two layers of diluted magnetic semiconductor separated by a nonmagnetic semiconductor layer. We find that there is a RKKY-type exchange coupling between the magnetic layers that oscilles between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic as a function of the different parameters in the problem. The different transport properties of these phases make that this heterostructure presents strong magnetoresistive effects. The coupling can be also modified by an electric field. We propose that it is possible to alter dramatically the electrical resistance of the heterostructure by applying an electric field. Our results indicate that in a single gated sample the magnetoresistance could be modulated by with an electrical bias voltage.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures include

Evaluation of the impact of initial red wine composition on changes in color and anthocyanin content during bottle storage

    Get PDF
Sixteen commercial red wines, selected to cover a different range of color and total polyphenols index (TPI), were stored at 25 °C during 6 months under controlled and different oxygen additions (0, 1.1, 3.1, 10.6 and 30.4 mg L-1) during the bottling process. Changes in color and the anthocyanic composition were evaluated using transmittance spectra and UPLC-MS-UV/Vis respectively. Results reveal a general pattern in the evolution of wines. However, different patterns of evolution related to initial wine composition, especially to TPI, were observed. Wines with higher TPI had a lower evolution, whereas wines with lower TPI showed a higher evolution and greater variability in behavior. In general, oxygen seemed to accelerate all changes observed during aging although the oxygen effect was more limited than the effect of the storage time. These results are relevant for wine experts and help explain the evolution of wine at the bottling stage

Weak Hopf algebras with projection and weak smash bialgebra structures

AbstractIn this paper we study weak Hopf algebras with projection. If f:H→B, g:B→H are morphisms of weak Hopf algebras such that g∘f=idH, we prove that it is possible to find an object BH, in the new category of weak Yetter–Drinfeld modules, that verifies similar conditions to the ones include in the definition of weak Hopf algebra. Finally, we define weak smash bialgebra structures and prove that, under central and cocentral conditions, BH and H determine an example of them
