Translating specialized Texts: pedagogical Approach

Uno de los elementos más relevantes de los textos especializados es, sin duda, la terminología. Se trata de uno de los rasgos más visible y complejo de la jerga especializada, ya que los términos expresan conceptos muy específicos que obstaculizan la correcta interpretación en personas legas en la materia. Se observa, sin embargo, que si bien el conocimiento de la terminología es imprescindible para una correcta comprensión, no lo es menos el del lenguaje y el del tema tratado. En la enseñanza de la traducción de textos especializados se hace, pues, necesario poner en funcionamiento una serie de estrategias destinadas a facilitar al estudiante la comprensión y correcta reexpresión del contenido del texto original, planteamiento que queremos presentar aquí.Undoubtedly, terminology is an outstanding aspect in specialized texts. It is a quite visible and complex feature in the specialized jargon, as terms express very specific concepts, making understanding the texts difficult to laypersons. So, understanding terminology is essential for a proper comprehension. Having a relevant knowledge of the field is also relevant. So, when teaching how to translate specialized texts, it is necessary to use certain strategies, so that the student will be provided with different tools to understand the source text as well as to write the target text

Design, testing and performance analisys of efficient lock-free solutions for multi-core Linux scheduler

Multiprocessor systems are nowadays de facto standard for both personal computers and server workstations. Benefits of multi-core technology has recently been used for embedded devices and cellular phones as well. Linux has not been originally designed to be a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) but, recently, a new scheduling class, named SCHED_DEADLINE, was added to it. SCHED_DEADLINE is an implementation of the well known Earliest Deadline First algorithm. In this thesis we first present PRACTISE, a tool for developing, debugging, testing and analyse real-time scheduling data structures in user space. Unlike other similar tools, PRACTISE executes code in parallel, allowing to test and analyse the performance of the code in a realistic multiprocessor scenario. We also show an implementation of a skiplist, realized with the help of the tool above. This implementation is intended to be used for processes migration among the CPUs in SCHED_DEADLINE. To effectively manage the concurrent accesses to the data structure we used a revised version of the flat combining framework

LA DIMENSIÓN CULTURAL DEL TEXTO JURÍDICO: UN ENFOQUE TRADUCTOR

This article addresses the issue of the cultural dimension of legal text from a translator’s perspective. This dimension generates the following problem: What happens when a given legal system uses to put across its views a language belonging to a culture unrelated to the legal system? To illustrate this situation, the Muslim legal system is examined, which is noticeably different from the substantial Western systems (i.e. the Romano-Germanic and Anglo-Saxon legal systems), and the problems that that legal system causes when translating are addressed as well as possible actions or solutions that the translator must consider.Este artículo aborda la cuestión de la dimensión cultural del texto jurídico desde una perspectiva traductora. Esta dimensión genera el siguiente problema: ¿qué ocurre cuando un determinado sistema jurídico emplea, para expresarse, una lengua perteneciente a una cultura ajena a él? Para ejemplificar esta situación, se analiza el sistema jurídico musulmán, notablemente distinto de los grandes sistemas occidentales (romano-germánico y anglosajón), y se tratan los problemas que dicho ordenamiento provoca a la hora de efectuar traducciones, así como las posibles actuaciones o soluciones que el traductor debe tener presentes
