Correntes da felicidade: emoções, gênero e poder

From the discussion on happy life norms, I direct the investigative focus from media representations to the internet’s emotional courts, proposing the construction of a theoretical-methodological reference framework to analyze the discussions on the emotional posture of two women: a prostitute who declared to be “happy” with her profession, in a campaign of the Brazilian Ministry of Health; and a mother who revealed to “hate” the experience of motherhood, in answer to a Facebook challenge. The examination of the impact of these two cases will provide a vivid panorama of the implications of affective ideals that, along with other disciplinary forces, constrain and produce identities.Na derradeira etapa de minha pesquisa sobre as normas da vida feliz, redireciono o foco investigativo das representações midiáticas para os tribunais emocionais da Internet. Apresento, neste artigo, a proposta de construção de um quadro de referência teórico-metodológico para a análise dos debates em torno da postura emocional de duas mulheres: uma prostituta que se declarou “feliz” com sua profissão, no material de uma campanha do Ministério da Saúde; uma mãe que revelou “detestar” a experiência da maternidade, em resposta a um desafio do Facebook. O exame da repercussão dos dois casos fornece um vívido panorama das implicações de ideais afetivos que, juntamente com outras forças disciplinares, constrangem e produzem identidades

Estereótipo e alteridade: a construção ideológica do Outro nas 'investigações jornalísticas' de João do Rio

A série dos “mistérios da cidade” despontou por volta de meados do século XIX como uma rubrica literária de sucesso na Europa e nos Estados Unidos. As metrópoles (com seus contrastes sociais, suas novas formas de deliqüescência) eram as protagonistas desses romances que endossavam e traduziam os saberes das disciplinas científicas emergentes. Inspirado pela tremenda popularidade de Les mystères de Paris (1843), de Eugène Sue, e seus epígonos, João do Rio adaptou o estilo e a temática do gênero às condições locais. A alma encantadora das ruas (1908) descreve o novo Rio de Janeiro polarizado entre os esnobes de classe alta e os pobres degradados e, em regra, viciosos. O lado sombrio da cidade dos despossuídos é representado como um continente negro, povoado por primitivos nativos, capaz de despertar, ao mesmo tempo, desejo e asco. Por esse motivo, argumento, neste ensaio, em contraste com as opiniões canônicas, que as “investigações jornalísticas” do autor carioca devem ser encaradas pelos historiadores culturais não como um retrato acurado e solidário da vida social e cultural das classes baixas, mas como uma valiosa fonte de informação sobre ideologias e ansiedades, conflitos morais e ambigüidades sexuais do novo leitor urbano. Palavras-chave: João do Rio; história cultural; representação literária; estereótipo; alteridade; classes baixas; leitor burguês

Em cartaz, as garotas superpoderosas: a construção discursiva da adolescência feminina na revista Capricho

Since the ’1990s female teen magazines constitute an important segment of Brazil’s magazine industry. What implications can the massive popularity of such publications have for the struggles around cultural definitions of femininity? In order to try to answer this question, this article discusses the discursive construction of “the young women of the new generation” in the pages of Capricho magazine. Its goal is to illumine the many ways in which its alleged “empowering” representations of independent and authentic girls connect with the cognate discourses of post-feminism and consumerism. In the conclusion it reflects on the insidious relationship between the specific notion of freedom propounded by the magazine and new forms of social control and regulation. Key words: female teen magazines, discourse, female adolescence.As revistas femininas juvenis constituem, desde os anos 1990, um proeminente segmento do nosso mercado editorial. Quais as possíveis implicações da popularidade de tais artefatos midiáticos para as batalhas em torno das definições culturais da feminilidade? A fim de tentar responder a esta questão, examino, neste artigo, a construção discursiva das “adolescentes da nova geração” nas páginas da revista Capricho. Meu objetivo é realçar as diversas conexões entre as suas representações alegadamente “empoderadoras” de garotas independentes e autênticas e os discursos cognatos do pós-feminismo e do consumismo. Na conclusão, reflito sobre a relação insidiosa entre a noção específica de liberdade propagada pela revista e novas formas de controle e regulação social. Mechanical evaluation of tibial fixation of the hamstring tendon in anterior cruciate ligament double-bundle reconstruction with and without interference screws

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare two postero-lateral bundle (PLB) tibial fixation techniques for the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament with double bundle: a technique without the use of an interference screw, preserving the native tibial insertion of the tendons of the gracilis and semitendineous muscles, and a technique with the use of an interference screw and without preserving the insertion of the tendons. METHODS: A comparative study was conducted in cadavers with a universal mechanical test machine. In total, 23 cadaver knees were randomized for tibial fixation of the PLB using the two techniques: Maintaining the tibial insertion of the tendons during reconstruction, without the use of an interference screw (group A, 11 cases); and fixating the graft with an interference screw, without maintaining the insertion of the tendons (group B, 12 cases). A continuous traction was performed (20 mm/min) in the same direction as the produced tunnel, and force (N), elongation (mm), rigidity (N/mm), and tension (N/mm2 ) were objectively determined in each group. RESULTS: Group A exhibited a maximum force (MF) of 315.4±124.7 N; maximum tension of 13.57±3.65 N/mm2 ; maximum elongation of 19.73±4.76 mm; force at the limit of proportionality (FLP) of 240.6±144.0 N; and an elongation at the limit of proportionality of 14.37±6.58 mm. Group B exhibited a MF of 195.7±71.8 N; maximum tension of 8.8±3.81 N/mm2 ; maximum elongation of 15.3±10.73 mm; FLP of 150.1±68.7 N; and an elongation at the limit of proportionality of 6.86±2.42 mm. When comparing the two groups, significant differences were observed in the variables of maximum force (p=0.016), maximum tension (p=0.019), maximum elongation (p=0.007), and elongation at the limit of proportionality (p=0.003). CONCLUSION: The use of the native insertion of the semitendineous and gracilis tendons, without an additional fixation device, presented mechanical superiority over their fixation with interference screws

O Efeito da Gestão do Capital Intelectual na Vantagem Competitiva: O Caso de um Grupo Empresarial com Atuação Predominante em Tecnologia

Os ativos do conhecimento representam um conjunto de recursos para as firmas, podem contribuir com a criação e manutenção da vantagem competitiva, e a sua gestão é de grande importância tanto para os acadêmicos como para a gerência das empresas. Assim, o propósito deste artigo é medir o impacto da gestão do capital intelectual na vantagem competitiva de uma organização. Embora este tema tenha sido amplamente estudado, a maior parte dos trabalhos têm se concentrado nos aspectos específicos do capital intelectual. Para a execução deste estudo, foi realizada uma pesquisa em um grupo empresarial que estimula a inovação e atitudes empreendedoras entre seus funcionários. Foram analisados 105 questionários, com as seguintes conclusões: verificaram-se fortes influências positivas entre capital humano e capital estrutural na vantagem competitiva da empresa, e moderada influência positiva com capital relacional. Também houve uma correlação positiva de moderada a forte entre todas as variáveis do estudo

Meeting the complex challenge of health and social care provision for rapidly-ageing populations. Introducing the concept of “avoidable displacement from home”.

The increasing numbers of people at very old ages pose specific policy challenges for health and social care and highlight the need to rethink established models of service provision. The main objective of this paper is to introduce the concept of “avoidable displacement from home” (ADH). The study argues that ADH builds on and adds value to existing concepts, offering a holistic, person-centered framework for integrated health and social care provision for older people. It also demonstrates that this framework can be applied across different levels, ranging from macro policymaking to organizational and individual decision-making. The paper pays attention to the Brazilian context but argues that ADH is a universally applicable concept

Pseudocercospora cruenta NA CULTIVAR DE FEIJÃO-CAUPI BRS NOVAERA NO ESTADO DO PARÁ

Cowpea is a very consumed legume in Brazil, mainly in the regions North and Northeast of Brazil, where it is considered as a source of basic protein for the local population. The average yield of the crop is 484 kg/ha, but it may be reduced by phytosanitary problems. The Embrapa Cowpea Breeding Program released a cultivar called BRS Novaera, aiming to improve productivity and resistance to plant pathogens. It is considered as highly resistant to the diseased known as coffee stain, moderately resistant to golden mosaic and susceptible to thread blight, powdery mildew and other viruses, with no references to the disease cercospora spot. In the monitoring carried out at the Demonstration Unit for the Production of Bean Seeds of Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, in Belém, PA, plants with symptoms of leaf spots similar to the cercospora spot were detected, which were analyzed in the Laboratory of Plant Pathology at Embrapa Amazônia Oriental. The causal agent of the leaf spots was the fungus Pseudocercospora cruenta.Keywords: leaf spot; Vigna unguiculata.O feijão-caupi é uma leguminosa muito consumida no Brasil, principalmente nas regiões Norte/Nordeste, onde é tido como fonte de proteína básica para a população local, podendo, no entanto, ter sua produção ser reduzida por problemas fitossanitários. O Programa de Melhoramento de Feijão-caupi da Embrapa lançou a cultivar BRS Novaera, com o objetivo de melhorar a produtividade e resistência a fitopatógenos, sendo considerada como altamente resistente à mancha-café, moderadamente resistente ao mosaico dourado e suscetível à mela, oídio e demais viroses, sem referências à mancha de cercospora. Em monitoramento realizado na Unidade Demonstrativa de Produção de Sementes de Feijão-caupi da Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, em Belém, PA, foram detectadas plantas com sintomas de manchas foliares semelhantes à mancha de cercospora, as quais foram analisadas no Laboratório de Fitopatologia da Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, sendo constatado como agente causal o fungo Pseudocercospora cruenta.Palavras-chaves: mancha foliar, Vigna unguiculata

ENSINO DE CIÊNCIAS ATRAVÉS DA MOSTRA BRASILEIRA DE FOGUETES (MOBFOG) : SCIENCE TEACHING THROUGH THE BRAZILIAN ROCKET SHOW

Este artigo aborda a Mostra Brasileira de Foguetes (MOBFOG) como uma ferramenta para o ensino de ciências e, para tal abordagem, é feita uma breve revisão bibliográfica sobre o ensino de ciências assim como acerca da MOBFOG em tal âmbito. Além disso, para entender as potencialidades das práticas com foguetes, são analisadas as respostas de um formulário eletrônico aplicado a estudantes que participaram da competição.&nbsp
