AN INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WAIST CIRCUMFERENCES AND WAIST-TO-HEIGHT RATIOS WITH DIFFERENT VARIABLES IN WOMEN WITH AGES BETWEEN 18 AND 53 YEARS

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to investigate whether waist circumference and waist-to-height ratios in women are affected by such factors as age, marital status, age at first marriage, parental status, number of children, and regular physical activity. Furthermore, the relationship between chronic diseases and waist circumference and waist-to-height ratios will also be examined. A total of 111 women were randomly selected to participate in this study, of average age 32.26 ± 8.74 years, mean height 162.76 ± 5.44 cm, and average weight 67.38 ± 11.74 kg. In addition to height, weight, and age, waist circumferences and waist-to-height ratios were also determined. Questionnaires recorded the participants’ marital status, age at first marriage, number of children, smoking status, exercise habits, and any chronic health conditions. ANOVA and the student’s t-test were used to analyze these data. Results indicated that waist circumference was significantly associated with age, number of children, marital status, menopausal status, regular exercise, parental status, and the presence of a chronic health condition (p < 0.01), as well as with marital status (p < 0.05). Waist circumference was not found to have a statistically significant association with smoking status (p < 0.05). Waist-to-height ratios were determined to associated with age, marital status, menopausal status, regular exercise, parental status, and chronic health conditions (p < 0.01) and with age at first marriage (p < 0.05), while the relationships with number of children and smoking status were not found to be statistically significant (p > 0.05).    Article visualizations

Dressing with Control: using integrability to generate desired solutions to Einstein's equations

21 pages, no figures21 pages, no figures21 pages, no figures21 pages, no figuresMotivated by integrability of the sine-Gordon equation, we investigate a technique for constructing desired solutions to Einstein's equations by combining a dressing technique with a control-theory approach. After reviewing classical integrability, we recall two well-known Killing field reductions of Einstein's equations, unify them using a harmonic map formulation, and state two results on the integrability of the equations and solvability of the dressing system. The resulting algorithm is then combined with an asymptotic analysis to produce constraints on the degrees of freedom arising in the solution-generation mechanism. The approach is carried out explicitly for the Einstein vacuum equations. Applications of the technique to other geometric field theories are also discussed

V444 Cygni X-ray and polarimetric variability: radiative and coriolis forces shape the wind collision region

We present results from a study of the eclipsing, colliding-wind binary V444 Cyg that uses a combination of X-ray and optical spectropolarimetric methods to describe the 3D nature of the shock and wind structure within the system. We have created the most complete X-ray light curve of V444 Cyg to date using 40 ks of new data from Swift, and 200 ks of new and archived XMM-Newton observations. In addition, we have characterized the intrinsic, polarimetric phase-dependent behavior of the strongest optical emission lines using data obtained with the University of Wisconsin's Half-Wave Spectropolarimeter. We have detected evidence of the Coriolis distortion of the wind-wind collision in the X-ray regime, which manifests itself through asymmetric behavior around the eclipses in the system's X-ray light curves. The large opening angle of the X-ray emitting region, as well as its location (i.e. the WN wind does not collide with the O star, but rather its wind) are evidence of radiative braking/inhibition occurring within the system. Additionally, the polarimetric results show evidence of the cavity the wind-wind collision region carves out of the Wolf-Rayet star's wind

The definitive version was published in Paleoceanography 25 (2010): PA1205, doi:10.1029/2009PA001735.Sediments deposited under lacustrine and marine conditions in the Sea of Marmara hold a Late Quaternary record for water exchange between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Here we report a multiproxy data set based on oxygen and strontium isotope results obtained from carbonate shells, major and trace elements, and specific organic biomarker measurements, as well as a micropaleontological study from a 14C-dated sediment core retrieved from the Sea of Marmara. Pronounced changes occurred in δ18O and 87Sr/86Sr values at the fresh and marine water transition, providing additional information in relation to micropaleontological data. Organic biomarker concentrations documented the marine origin of the sapropelic layer while changes in n-alkane concentrations clearly indicated an enhanced contribution for organic matter of terrestrial origin before and after the event. When compared with the Black Sea record, the results suggest that the Black Sea was outflowing to the Sea of Marmara from the Last Glacial Maximum until the warmer Bølling-Allerød. The first marine incursion in the Sea of Marmara occurred at 14.7 cal ka B.P. However, salinification of the basin was gradual, indicating that Black Sea freshwaters were still contributing to the Marmara seawater budget. After the Younger Dryas (which is associated with a high input of organic matter of terrestrial origin) both basins were disconnected, resulting in a salinity increase in the Sea of Marmara. The deposition of organic-rich sapropel that followed was mainly related to enhanced primary productivity characterized by a reorganization of the phytoplankton population. We acknowledge support from INSU and the French Polar Institute IPEV

17th IEEE World Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics, SAMI 2019 --24 January 2019 through 26 January 2019 -- --Traditional object detection algorithms generate proposals and implement feature extraction. Then, a classification algorithm is implemented to label object classes. This process is slow, and the accuracy may not be adequate for UAV's real-time application tasks due to their movement in the air. We specified and practically implemented an object detection and localization scheme on images taken from a UAV, and provided the UAV with an advanced vision. We used YOLOv2 model. The YOLOv2 is a suitable object detection approach based on deep learning, and it presents a network architecture with accurate results in high speed. The object detection and localization were successfully implemented for people, car, and motorcycle classes within the threshold confidence scores. We pre-trained the model on COCO dataset and tested the model with our test images. The confidence scores were higher in altitudes from 5 to 15 meters and the confidence scores varied between %45 - %79 mAP. © 2019 IEEE
