Rapidity gaps in gluon jets / color reconnection at LEP

Gluon jets with a large gap in the rapidity distribution of particles within the jet are very sensitive to color reconnection effects. Gluon jets of this type, selected from hadronic Z0 decay events produced in e+e- annihilations at LEP, are used to test three QCD models which include a simulation of color reconnection: one in the Ariadne Monte Carlo, one in the Herwig Monte Carlo, and the other by Rathsman in the Pythia Monte Carlo. We conclude that color reconnection as implemented by the Rathsman and Ariadne models is disfavored. We don't obtain a definite conclusion concerning the Herwig color reconnection model.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Some recent QCD results from the OPAL Collaboration are summarized. In particular: a test of color reconnection models and a search for glueballs using gluon jets with a rapidity gap; a study of unbiased gluon jet properties using a new technique called jet boost algorithm; a measurement of the strong coupling constant from radiative events.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. Feminist Disruptions in Mexican Art, 1975 - 1987

Between 1975 and 1987 feminism in the arts in Mexico delineated a unique situation, one without parallel in the panorama of Latin American art. In a group of exhibitions, works and texts, women's place in Mexican art was critically analyzed, unfolding a broad map of positions. Although a chronology and list of names of the artists who shaped this scenario have been established, the intervention that each work proposed in the debate on women's place and the feminine that gained visibility during those years has not yet been examined. Based on a situated analysis of these works, this article proposes to discuss these works' intervention in configuring how the debate on artistic feminism took shape during this period in Mexico.Fil: Giunta, Andrea Graciela. FIRM’S FINANCING AND INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURE IN THE LESS DEVELOPED REGIONS OF THE SOUTH ITALY

The paper shows that there is a relationship between firm’s financial condition and the industrial specialization model of the Italian Mezzogiorno, that is the least developed area of the country. In order to analyze the financial status of the firms, the approach of the theory of the finance is adopted. The empirical model proposed by the Gibrat law literature is used to produce the estimates of the relationship between firms’ growth and cash flow. Then, the indices measuring the “financial dependence†on the internal finance or the “financial constraints†to the firm growth of the Mezzogiorno’s industries are compared to those of the other Italian regions. Finally, the analysis of the between the emerging financial condition of the firms and both the firm side distribution of the individual industries and the composition of the manufacturing of the South Italy is proposed. Our econometric analyses, carried out on a representative sample of manufacturing firms, confirm that there is a robust relationship between financial status of the firms and the specialisation model of manufacturing of the Italian Mezzogiorno.financial constraints, internal finance, growth-cash flow relationship

Internationalisation modes and determinants. The case of Italian automotive firms

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to study the characteristics of the internationalisation process and to identify its determinants in a representative sample of firms in the Italian automotive chain. The main findings of an econometric analysis based on micro-evidence are that: a) the firms engage in complex modes of internationalisation; b) the individual firm's characteristics play a significant role; c) the firms located in the province of Turin have a clear localisation advantage, a sort of an 'industrial district' effect.Internationalisation, Firm Behaviour, Automotive Industry, Qualitative Choice Models

The competitive repositioning of automotive firms in Turin: innovation, internationalisation and the role of ICT

    Get PDF
Following the increasing competitive pressure and the emergence of new industrial poles within the auto industry, Italian firms have been the protagonists of an intense reorganisation, which is still ongoing. This case-study involves 13 supplier firms, operating in the automotive industry, localised in Turin, that have adopted a series of strategies aimed at improving their international competitiveness. The empirical findings show that there is a particularly strong innovative drive for the interviewed firms to position themselves in activities with greater added value and to undertake internationalisation strategies, from the 'lighter' to the more 'complex' forms, coupled with a use of information and communication technologies epresents a case of excellence.Innovation, Internationalisation, ICT, Automotive Industry

Bending and free vibration of functionally graded beams using various higher-order shear deformation beam theories

    Get PDF
In this paper, various higher-order shear deformation beam theories for bending and free vibration of functionally graded beams are developed. The developed theories account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the beam, and satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the beam. A shear correction factor, therefore, is not required. In addition, these theories have strong similarities with Euler–Bernoulli beam theory in some aspects such as equations of motion, boundary conditions, and stress resultant expressions. The material properties of the functionally graded beam are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions are presented, and the obtained results are compared with the existing solutions to verify the validity of the developed theories. Finally, the influences of power law index and shear deformation on the bending and free vibration responses of functionally graded beams are investigated
