Albéniz, Malats, Iberia and the ultimate "españolismo"
Iberia, a collection of twelve piano pieces arranged in four books of three pieces each, is by far Isaac Albéniz’s most famous composition. Responding to a letter from Albéniz to the pianist Joaquín Malats, in which the composer confessed that with the third book of Iberia he carried the “españolismo [Spanishness] to its ultimate extreme,” I will argue that there are subtle stylistic differences between books one and two on the one hand, and books three and four on the other. As Paul Mast has observed, Albéniz’s use of the whole-tone scale decreased in books three and four, “after their ‘French’ aspect had undoubtedly been pointed out to the composer” (Mast, 1974). I will not only unveil Albéniz’s specific use of the whole-tone scale, but also point out an alternative compositional strategy that fulfills the same function in books three and four. Moreover, this renewed “Spanishness” entailed not only an emphasis on folkloristic elements on the foreground level, but also a more sophisticated use of the Phrygian (flamenco) mode in Albéniz’s recapitulations on the dominant. In other words, Albéniz’s conception of “Spanishness” entailed the structural translation of one of the “quintessential” features of flamenco music

On the other hand, Asturian wine tries to get a foothold in the market after nearly a century of neglect of its industrial production. This paper focuses on the onomastic study of current cider and wine brand names, assuming that trademarks reflect not only the behaviour of markets but also the mentality of the society in which they arise. Important differences are appreciated in comparing cider and wine brand names, some of them directly related to differential features of the two industrial sector
Alternations like these also appear in many other varieties of Romance languages, most of them in the Iberian Peninsula and also in the South-Central area of the Italian Peninsula. This paper gives an overview of the main themes related to the selective marking of the DO in the Romance languages (its historical origin, geographical extension, formal marks and factors that may influence them) and it also deals with the case of the Asturian Language in concrete, which has not been enough studied sufficiently neither in the synchronic aspect nor in the diachronic one. As a kind of contribution to the historical point of view, a comparison between the current situation and the situation in the 13th-15th Century is made according to what about a hundred of legal documents from the central-west area of Asturies sho

Capturing complexity: developing an integrated approach to analysing HRM in SMEs
This article presents a framework to evaluate HRM in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), using an open systems theoretical perspective. In presenting an open systems perspective the objective is to overcome the limitations of existing theorising in HRM, in particular to facilitate a move away from the ‘small is beautiful’ versus ‘bleak house’ stereotypes evident in much of the literature concerned with HRM in SMEs. The evidence is drawn from six SMEs operating in the Republic of Ireland, using a case study method. The findings show that a complex interplay of external structural factors and internal dynamics shaped HRM in each of the companies. HRM was not the coherent set of practices typically identified in the literature but rather was often informal and emergent. It is argued that the open systems theoretical framework enables a move beyond mere recognition of the complexity and heterogeneity of HRM in SMEs, towards an understanding, accommodation and explanation of particularistic factors
Tendencias en los campos del derecho y la estética, y nuevas manifestaciones de la violencia.
This article explores tendencies in the fields of law and aesthetics in order to contribute to an understanding of new manifestations of violence: in particular, the brutalization of social relations. The article examines the transformations that bear witness to the deflation of the symbolic and discusses these transformations following Jean Baudrillard’s notions of hegemonic power and integrist violence.
