Development and implementation of advanced steels (AHSS) represent being the best solution to meet high levels of safety and environmental care, demanded to the automotive industry. The objective of this research work is to characterize structural, microstructural and mechanically a latest complex phase generation steel microalloyed with boron, hot and cool rolled and heat treated via quenching and partitioning (Q&P) of one and two steps. Outstanding results have been obtained regarding to the austenitic grain size refinement after Q&P treatment. Microconstituents such as retained austenite, martensite, bainite, perlite and ferrite were obtained, homogeneously distributed in the two-step Q&P steel microalloyed with boron. Furthermore, high values of mechanical resistance were obtained. All this compared with the results achieved in the one step treated condition of both microalloyed and non-microalloyed steel

Copyright: Copyright 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved. Background: Concerns exist regarding the prevalence and impact of unnecessary oxygen use in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). We examined this issue in patients with ARDS enrolled in the Large observational study to UNderstand the Global impact of Severe Acute respiratory FailurE (LUNG SAFE) study. Methods: In this secondary analysis of the LUNG SAFE study, we wished to determine the prevalence and the outcomes associated with hyperoxemia on day 1, sustained hyperoxemia, and excessive oxygen use in patients with early ARDS. Patients who fulfilled criteria of ARDS on day 1 and day 2 of acute hypoxemic respiratory failure were categorized based on the presence of hyperoxemia (PaO2 > 100 mmHg) on day 1, sustained (i.e., present on day 1 and day 2) hyperoxemia, or excessive oxygen use (FIO2 ≥ 0.60 during hyperoxemia). Results: Of 2005 patients that met the inclusion criteria, 131 (6.5%) were hypoxemic (PaO2 < 55 mmHg), 607 (30%) had hyperoxemia on day 1, and 250 (12%) had sustained hyperoxemia. Excess FIO2 use occurred in 400 (66%) out of 607 patients with hyperoxemia. Excess FIO2 use decreased from day 1 to day 2 of ARDS, with most hyperoxemic patients on day 2 receiving relatively low FIO2. Multivariate analyses found no independent relationship between day 1 hyperoxemia, sustained hyperoxemia, or excess FIO2 use and adverse clinical outcomes. Mortality was 42% in patients with excess FIO2 use, compared to 39% in a propensity-matched sample of normoxemic (PaO2 55-100 mmHg) patients (P = 0.47). Conclusions: Hyperoxemia and excess oxygen use are both prevalent in early ARDS but are most often non-sustained. No relationship was found between hyperoxemia or excessive oxygen use and patient outcome in this cohort. Trial registration: LUNG-SAFE is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02010073publishersversionPeer reviewe

CultivData: Application of IoT to the Cultivation of Agricultural Data

    No full text
CultivData proposes the convergence of technologies, such as IoT, big data, HPC, open data and artificial intelligence, to apply HPDA (High Performance Data Analytics) to the cultivation of agricultural data and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of farms. An information system has been developed as an IT platform for the cultivation of open data to extract knowledge and to support the decision making of stakeholders in the agricultural sector, so that it is possible to improve product quality and farm productivity. The resulting system integrates access to data provided by IoT devices that sensorize farms and public and open data sources (Open Data). The platform was designed to make precision agriculture a reality and to be useful not only to farmers, but also to agricultural decision-makers who plan species and crops based on data such as available water; expected weather; prices and market demands, and so forth. In addition, the platform provides to agricultural producers access to historical climate data; climate forecasts to anticipate times of drought or disasters; pest situations or monitoring of their plantations with sensorization and orthophotographs

Angiotensin II AT1 Receptor Blockade Ameliorates Brain Inflammation

    No full text
Brain inflammation has a critical role in the pathophysiology of brain diseases of high prevalence and economic impact, such as major depression, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, and traumatic brain injury. Our results demonstrate that systemic administration of the centrally acting angiotensin II AT1 receptor blocker (ARB) candesartan to normotensive rats decreases the acute brain inflammatory response to administration of the bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a model of brain inflammation. The broad anti-inflammatory effects of candesartan were seen across the entire inflammatory cascade, including decreased production and release to the circulation of centrally acting proinflammatory cytokines, repression of nuclear transcription factors activation in the brain, reduction of gene expression of brain proinflammatory cytokines, cytokine and prostanoid receptors, adhesion molecules, proinflammatory inducible enzymes, and reduced microglia activation. These effects are widespread, occurring not only in well-known brain target areas for circulating proinflammatory factors and LPS, that is, hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus and the subfornical organ, but also in the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and amygdala. Candesartan reduced the associated anorexic effects, and ameliorated associated body weight loss and anxiety. Direct anti-inflammatory effects of candesartan were also documented in cultured rat microglia, cerebellar granule cells, and cerebral microvascular endothelial cells. ARBs are widely used in the treatment of hypertension and stroke, and their anti-inflammatory effects contribute to reduce renal and cardiac failure. Our results indicate that these compounds may offer a novel and safe therapeutic approach for the treatment of brain disorders
